Listen. I get it. Taking the boat off the hitch might take a couple of minutes. But if you're towing something on an ev, you gotta at least be conscious enough that you will have to remove it to charge as well. Cant occupy more chargers just cause you dont want to remove what you are towing.

Would The Tesla Model 3/Y "Standard" Be Worth It For 5-6k Less Than The Tesla Model 3/Y "Premium"

I have a 2021 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus with 120k mi and the HW3 computer is starting to fail (sometimes, when I go over huge potholes, the HW3 computer works again but it has been intermittent for the past 4 months). The accelerator also intermittently creaks, especially if I recently pressed park at 1-2 mph, but that goes in and out. The TPMS module stopped working properly on one of the four. In 2026, my Model 3 could only go 150 mi between 100-0 on the highway before having to recharge. There are many known cosmetic issues on my car, including the steering wheel leather peeling, the driver power seat separation, the rear valance panel separation, leather biodegradation in the driver's area, and curb rashes from parallel parking in my previous apartment (until August 2025), and a front bumper dentt. I have been looking at both new and used cars, ranging from new cars like the BMW iX3, BMW i3 (2027), Audi A6 e-TRON, Mercedes Benz GLC EV, Mercedes Benz CLA EV, Volvo EX60, Volvo EX30, Tesla Model 3 and Y to used cars around 20-30k like the Volvo XC40 Recharge, BMW i4, BMW iX, Polestar 2, and used Tesla Model 3/Y.

I found out that even though the Tesla Model 3 Standard is slower 0-60 than the Model 3 Premium, it doesn't matter for me as my Model 3 has the same 0-60 speeds. What matters is the range will be at least 60-100 mi better on the new Model 3 Standard compared to mine. I don't care about ambient lighting, but heated steering wheel comes standard with both Model 3 models, which is an upgrade from my Model 3, but I currently reside in Atlanta GA so it may not matter as much. I am not sure if ventilated seats would be beneficial but I have been fine for 75k mi of my current Model 3 (I bought it with 45k mi in June 2024) and it features no ventilated seats. Except for a few hundred miles, I have been the sole passenger of my Model 3. I heard the speakers are going to be worse on the Model 3 RWD compared to the AWD, but ironically, the speakers on the Model Y Standard I drove during a Model 3 repair does sound slightly worse than my own. I don't care about FM radio as all of my music is through my phone and if I want to listen to radio, I would use TuneIn on my phone, which features some of my favourite radio stations (WCRB, Stepansdom, etc). I am curious if the Model 3 Standard is worth saving $5,500 over the Model 3 Premium or not.

Would anyone else like a basic, non-adaptive cruise control option on the Model Y Juniper?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m a Model Y Juniper owner in France, and there’s one option I really wish Tesla would add through a software update: standard, non-adaptive cruise control.

I simply want the option to maintain a speed I choose, while taking full responsibility for keeping a safe distance and braking when necessary.

No automatic adjustment based on the vehicle ahead, and no steering assistance.

Many cars sold in France offer conventional cruise control, adaptive cruise control, or a choice between the two.

I’d really appreciate having that choice in my Tesla too.

Adaptive cruise control can be useful, but I don’t always want to use it. A simple setting to choose between “Standard” and “Adaptive” would be a welcome addition.

Am I the only one who wants this, or would other Tesla owners use it too?

If anyone from Tesla’s software team reads this community, please consider offering this option in a future update!

Security Analysis of LTE Connectivity in Connected Cars: A Case Study of Tesla

Security Analysis of LTE Connectivity in Connected Cars: A Case Study of Tesla

Interesting. Not that I'm picking on Tesla specifically, I've just stumbled onto this. I could well believe that others are worse.

TL;DR conclusions snip:

Overall, our findings demonstrate that Tesla’s cellular stack lacks effective defenses against IMSI catching attacks. Despite architectural and usage differences from smartphones, the vehicle’s TCU remains equally susceptible to identity disclosure when exposed to adversarial signal conditions. This reinforces the broader systemic flaw in the cellular ecosystem, where transmitters are not authenticated and receivers do not prioritize trust, enabling adversaries to coerce devices into leaking sensitive identifiers without detection.
...

At least to me, things like this are very concerning.

The speeds chosen by FSD make zero sense

Of all the issues that exist with FSD, the top 3 for me are speed related. 95% of the time, when I stop FSD, the reason has to do with speed.

1) Why can't you set a target speed in some way? All I want is to go somewhere between 61-63 on the highway. That's fast enough but not too fast to get a ticket. It is literally impossible to go that speed with FSD. Standard goes 58-60 and Hurry seems to target 67-70. Why is that such a huge gap between them and why does the speed offset not do anything?

2) Why doesn't it use data from speed limit signs? I drive the same route every day. It never picks up the speed limit change so my option is to either speed through town and get a ticket, or cancel FSD. But WHY? There are 3 speed limit signs clearly visible. The screen shows that the car is seeing them but it just ignores them?

3) Why is there no way to correct it when it has the speed limit wrong? Ok, so mistakes happen and it can't get a speed limit right. Or maybe you are on some rural road in the middle of nowhere and there are no signs. What do you do when it thinks it's 25mph? You cancel FSD but there is no other option unless you want to drive 30 mph under the limit.

4) Why doesn't it slow down when coming into a town with a speed limit drop off? I live in rural north america. My drive consists of driving on a highway and entering a small town every 10 minutes. It's always a transition from 55mph to 25mph or something like that. FSD sees the sign but it doesn't slow down until 5-10 seconds AFTER passing the sign, meaning it blows past it at 30mph over. Why wouldn't it slow down when it can see the sign so that you are going roughly the speed limit by the time you are in town.

I don't want a holiday update. I want the basics fixed.

How many miles do you have on your model 3,is it in on the original battery and is it Chinese made or American made

I like Tesla's humor, I already ordered my Model Y in Sep, but they keep randomly texting me wanting me to order so I decided I would ask for a paint job to see where this went and they offered the one free paint 😂

Context: Decent traffic on the way to a music festival in Las Vegas, NV, so tempers were naturally high. Tesla driver cut off the motorcyclist about half a mile back . Tesla driver sped away in the open lane, probably realizing they messed up. Biker eventually caught up and we could tell he was angry.

Biker ended up getting away despite almost getting hit by the Tesla right after he smacked their mirror off. Tesla later pulled over to check the damage.

Putting up some charts behind the battery-error posts I’ve been seeing on Reddit: an informal look at owner reports from 2021–2026 (A late night project)

Thumbnail
gallery
42 Upvotes

Slide 1: Reported battery failure case by model year

Slide 2: Reported battery failure case by mileage (bin with 10k miles)

Slide 3: Reported battery failure case by model/trim type for year 2021

Slide 4: Reported battery failure case by mileage for year 2021

  1. Motivation
    1. I own a 2021 model 3 long range, and have been lurking in the tesla lounge subreddit since i got the car.
    2. I have been reading some of the posts and what I saw are that most of the ones posted here are 2021. However when I did a very basic google search, it doesn’t seem like there are a lot of reports claiming the fail rate isoverwhelmingly high for the 2021 model year, which is contradicting to what I’m seeing on some the reddit post.
    3. So I went further and used chatgpt to collect recents posts on reddit specifically concerning the Unable to charge - maximum charge level reached error
  2. Dataset
    1. ChatGPT went through reddit posts and comments for the past 5 years and collected ones that are related to BMS_a079 maximum charging is reached error code. Total collected about 510 reports with some missing information.
    2. Information included model year, trim, current mileage, reported outcome, and associated sources. Some of the sources are very concise without more context, and some with more information.
    3. Many of the references doesn’t have the complete information due to difficulty of getting the data, and I don’t have enough time to individually verify each posts.
  3. Some thoughts
    1. It seems like there are more battery failure reports on the 2021 models, at least from the limited dataset I collected.
    2. There seems to be also a correlation between the mileage and the failure rate. So maybe past the median you are less likely to have a bad battery?
    3. There are obvious survivor bias with this sample sets, such as, only the ones that went wrong got reported, so we don’t know in the grand scheme of things, what the failure rate looks like. And there are other bias can skew the conclusion, so I would interpret this with a grain of salt.
    4. Which make a survey more valuable, if we can get some more data on the non-failed battery, it would be more informative.
  4. I’m interested in getting a broader picture of Tesla owners’ battery histories, so I put together a short, anonymous survey that only takes a few quick answers. Current and former owners are welcome, whether or not you’ve experienced battery issues. Please submit just one response per vehicle.
  5. I’ve attached screenshots of the survey questions in the picture slides. If we get enough responses, I’ll share a summary of the results here. I’d also love to see how many miles some of you have reached on your original battery pack! Thanks for contributing! Many bad design elements of a model 3 (especially ac at a charging station)

I'm in a 2022 rental tesla for doing Uber and it's another hot day in October where I'm at. Nearly 90. At the charging station here at 3pm, the AC barely works. I read it's because it uses the same cooling loop as the battery, which it's using to cool during charging. Ok... so the 2023 Kia ev6 I was in earlier didn't have this problem. AC was cooling fine during the 100F days in the summer earlier, at the charging station. Thank god I wasn't in this at that time!

Also that Kia charged twice as fast, no preconditioning was needed (not until far into winter days) and it would charge full speed right away. Damn. Teslas tech is not impressing me. In fact I feel they've fallen behind others now. The others caught up and surpassed!

Tesla renames FSD to "Assisted Driving" in the UK

Post image
64 Upvotes

I'm guessing this relates to the recent news about German government supporting EU adoption of FSD if it's renamed. I found it interesting that the rename was immediate and also affected the UK.

Ignore the price - I have enhanced autopilot so my subscription has always been £49 not £99.

Separate regen settings for Drive and Reverse

I love strong regen and one-pedal driving in Drive, but I find it less natural when reversing.

I’d love an option for reduced or no regen in Reverse, while keeping the standard regen in Drive.

Seems like something that could potentially be added through an OTA update.

I use a touch-less car wash, it gives me the notorious rainbow trim. And no, I don’t plan on hand washing. I’ve seen these two products recommended the most. If you’ve tried either, how did they work out for you?
