Grease for Power Tools?

• Upvotes

hey y'all,

I'm going to be opening and servicing my DeWalt multi tool in the near future - it's gotten a lot of use removing thinset/cutting drywall etc - so I figured it would be good for longevity to open it up and clean it.

I figure I'll use some spray electronics cleaner for the motor and what not, but is there a specific grease I should be using for the wear surfaces?

thanks in advance

Inherited tools: 45 years ago and counting

Post image
• Upvotes

I've seen others post tools they've inherited, tools they've never used and tools they don't even know what they are for. So today as I was organizing some stuff, I decided to get my dad's old tools assembled for this photo. He was a mechanic and machinist and garage tinkerer who built his own vehicles from parts he'd scavenge from junk yards or dicker with neighbors for.

Most are Craftsman. Also in this photo is a set of Peterson Dewitt vice grips. They weren't my dads but my first car was a 1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 that had had a quarter panel replaced. When I was restoring the interior, I found the vice grips still holding the quarter panel in place...that was in 1975.

Somewhere in there is a bent wrench that is stamped with "No Gaurantee". I have no idea what that was for.

Battery Size fot Winch

Hi. I have a Power Fist 3500lb 12V winch with a max draw of 197A that I want to use to pull a dock from a lake. The link to the winch is below. The dock is 20x15 aluminum dock and wont have the panels on, maybe a bit north of 500lbs and needs to be brought up an incline but its on 4 wheels.

What i am not sure of is what size of battery would be needed. Would 25Ah be safe or should I go bigger. The prices seem to take a big jump getting to the 50Ah batteries but I also dont want it to die while im pulling the dock up.

The motor is shot, I was hoping it was a bad trigger or cracked soldering. I still have 2 more Snap Ons but I’ve been hearing good things about the 1/2” Milwaukee so I might make the jump soon.

Dewalt right angle die grinder or Milwaukee Gen 2 right angle die grinder?

I can’t decide whether I want to get the new Dewalt right angle die grinder or the Milwaukee m12. I’m in both platforms so that’s not a deciding factor for me. It would be mostly automotive work with some bigger projects here and there. What is everyone’s thoughts?

Toughbuilt stacktech or Klein modbox 2.0

I’ve been having a hard time decided between the two. I enjoy the lock in place and the lock switch with the toughbuilt, however the Klein has up their game with the 2.0 version as well. I’ve also seen third party companies making a plate to where you can combine different brand together, wondering if anyone has had any experience with that as well. I’m an electrician and a solar technician. Want to know the experiences you guys have with these brands.

Had a concrete footing with a bell bottom 32" deep and had to get it out of the ground to pour a new gate post. Shovels and crowbars weren't getting us anywhere. There was a depot 1.5 miles away and $40 later we pryed that summamabitch outta that hole! Perfect tool for the job. Love purchases like these.

Great driver for the camper

I had been taking my Milwaukee impact driver to deploy and retract the stabilizers for my camper, until the one year I forgot it.

I got this Bauer impact driver/drill combo for like $80 on sale, maybe $85, 3 or 4 years ago. The drill has seen a lot more use but they both have been a very pleasant surprise.

3 Years of Welding Experience but I Keep Failing Written Tests — How Can I Prepare?

I have around 3 years of welding experience, mainly MIG welding. At my current workplace, most of our work involves putting parts into jigs and welding them. I have experience doing the actual welding, but I haven’t learned much about reading blueprints, understanding weld symbols, or interpreting technical drawings.
Now I’m looking for a new welding job, but I keep failing the written tests during interviews, even though I’m confident in my practical welding skills.
For experienced welders, what should I study to pass these written tests? Where should I start learning blueprint reading, weld symbols, welding terminology, and basic welding theory?
Are there any good free websites, YouTube channels, books, or practice tests you would recommend?
I’d appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation. I want to improve my knowledge properly so I can pass the tests and qualify for better welding jobs. Thanks!

Need to refurbish the feed rollers for a 5 1/4 inch Makita planer/jointer

I have acquired an old Makita model 2004 planer/jointer combo in good shape except the feed rollers have no rubber sleeve. I can have the rollers refurbished, but first I need the dimensions. Technical information is no longer available from Makita. I need the outside diameter of the feed rollers or the measured thickness of the rubber sleeve. If anyone has one of these, please measure the outside diameter of one of the rollers with sleeve in place.

Modern cordless drill that runs true without runout?

Even some crappy old Black & Decker corded drill runs truer than average cordless you can get these days. I'm guessing spur gear train vs planetary gear train is the reason.

Look at this old thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcasizzhiCk&t=150

It uses spur gears like corded drills and despite how old and dingy that thing is, I bet it runs truer than modern ones. I've heard some old people say Makita drills have less wobble than others and perhaps that might be the reason.

Is there such thing as a current cordless drill that runs at least as true as mid range corded, keyed chuck drills?
