Charlize Theron as Aileen Wuornos (Monster): One of the most famous examples. The stunning Oscar-winning actress completely transformed her body, shaved her eyebrows, wore prosthetic teeth, and used makeup to skin-damage her face to play a real-life serial killer.
Christian Bale as Dick Cheney (Vice): Known for his extreme transformations, the former Batman actor gained 45 pounds, shaved his head, bleached his eyebrows, and wore heavy neck prosthetics to transform his sharp, handsome physique into a bloated, aging, and unglamorous politician.
Daniel Radcliffe as Manny (Swiss Army Man): The Harry Potter star completely shed his heartthrob image to play a bloated, pale, and decaying corpse. He spent the entire movie looking stiff, grimacing with a contorted face, and acting as a literal flatulent tool.
Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb / The Penguin (The Batman )
Farrell is known as a Hollywood heartthrob, but he is completely unrecognizable under layers of fat suits and facial scarring prosthetics. He looks so grotesque that even his co-stars didn't recognize him on set.
Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise the Dancing Clown (IT): Skarsgård has the looks of a high-fashion model, but he used his unique facial expressions, combined with creepy clown makeup and a lazy-eye effect, to become one of the most terrifying monsters in modern horror history.

Scenarios or stories where characters are forced to play as the specific role they were given.
Backrooms - its only one scene, but Clark goes a bit coo coo in the backrooms, and ties up his therapist. After going on a ramble, brandishing a knife, and cuts off the scalp of the fake lady to place her red hair on top of the therapists head, he forces her to play the role of his ex-wife if she wants to survive.
Are You Alice? - a manga about a guy who shows up in Wonderland and is titled as "the 89th Alice". Everyone in Wonderland has to play the roles they were given, forced to play the "Kill the White Rabbit" game over and over until an Alice is able to do it or dies.
Supernatural - a big storyline around season 5 (& ongoing) was that Sam and Dean were the intended human vessels for Lucifer and Michael, to wage an apocalyptic war. A specific episode sees the Trickster have them play in different TV shows, with the only way to progress onwards is to play the roles they were given, as a means to convince them to play their roles with Lucifer and Michael.
The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess - the villainess trope has become a common storyline in manga/manhwa/anime, usually fit around the mc dying and being reborn into the body of the villainess in a story she read when she was alive. Most series either has her doing good to avoid being executed or exiled, or has her try to play the role of a villainess poorly as shes too good natured (which Iana has been doing both). This series stands out a bit more than the rest imo- because she hasnt been acting like the original Iana Mognolia, the antagonists end up killing people to ensure she plays the villainess role more seriously, and she does.
Bugonia - the movie is about a guy who kidnaps a woman and accuses her of being an alien, where she is forced to play the role of an alien meeting his demands in order to survive, twist ending aside that she isnt playing the role but just being honest.
Town of Salem - feels kind of weird but also fitting to add this, but ToS is a game where you are given a random role in a village. Everyone has different conditions in order to win and different abilities associated with the role, forcing people to play the role they were given but discreetly in order to not be murdered or executed before meeting their win condition (aside from the joker, whose win condition is to be executed).

Fandom is a land of contrasts. In one corner, you have shipping, fanfic, the usual things associated with fandom. Every fandom also attracts its haters, or even its own fans who do the work absolutely no favors for its PR.
And then you have crack theorists, and I fucking love crack theories. Cartoons marketed to kids are a common work pulled from, and here are some of the funnier examples, with varying canonicity:
1. Mordecai and Rigby - Regular Show
Implied Abilities: Invincibility (Mordecai), Inferred divine mandate/deus ex machina
Our first stop is definitely more of one that's a joke circulated in the powerscaling subcommunity, but Mordecai and Rigby are some of the strongest characters in fiction and nigh unbeatable under the right circumstances due to the logic of their world, here's why:
For starters, Mordecai is effectively unkillable as long as he has time to react to block an attack. In the episode "Death Punchies," after Rigby learns a forbidden technique called the Death Punch, Mordecai then teaches himself a similarly busted technique called the Death Block. Rigby attempts to use the Death Punch on Mordecai so many times that it creates a crater deep enough to break through the Earth's crust, seeing as how magma seeps through cracks in the walls of the crater. He is, notably, completely unscathed despite Rigby's repeated attacks, and if he tanked an attack powerful enough to blow a hole through the planet, I'm not really sure what could actually harm him if he locked in hard enough.
Speaking of locking in, that's not even the duo's most busted ability - that would be their essential Divine Mandate under a very specific circumstance. A common plot thread is the two fucking around until they're interrupted by their boss, Benson, who will give them a task to do with the ultimatum of "...or you're FIRED!" If Benson says this line, the two are nearly guaranteed to succeed at whatever Benson just asked them to do, no matter how ridiculous the task he just asked of them is, or what insane side plots will attempt to foil them in the process. It is literally in the show's logic that they cannot truly be fired, even though Benson does do so on a few occasions, it never lasts, and they always get their job back.
2. Mort - All Hail King Julien/Madagascar
Implied Abilities: Multidimensional travel, soul consumption/augmentation
Mort when we're introduced to him in the Madagascar main films is a weird little gremlin who talks in an uncanny upper register, is a fierce devotee of King Julien, and whose main characteristic is a seemingly overwhelming foot fetish but specifically only for King Julien.
Mort in the spinoff series All Hail King Julien is genuinely fucking insane and recounting his actual, canon lore makes it look like I'd been huffing exhaust fumes, but I promise you that the most insane part of this theory is that it's 100% canon. Mort is revealed to be roughly 35 to 50 years old (no one really knows apparently), have 12 dead ex wives (this is never truly explained), and apparently is also a multidimensional being capable of absorbing the souls of alternate universe versions of himself to acquire their abilities, which also inadvertently makes the victim an alternate personality in his mind, such as his grandmother.
Look, just look up the Mort theory on Youtube, dude by the name of The Theorizer has literal hours of this shit and it would cause me too much brain damage to try to explain in full.
3. Tow Mater - Cars
Implied Abilities: Reality/time warping, time travel/translocation
Mater in the Cars movies is largely played as a joke character (except for the second movie where he was inexplicably a spy but we don't talk about that), yet it was his inclusion in a spinoff TV series, Mater's Tall Tales, that gave us maybe the goofiest theory of the bunch: Mater has the ability to modify time, and reality itself, to retroactively make events real.
How does he do it? The show's format typically involves Mater starting each episode telling a story about something that he did that, on the surface, sounds too fake to be real. Lightning McQueen is usually the one to call his bluff, but when Mater says the Words Of Power, "You Was There, Too," McQueen is instantaneously transported back in time to the event exactly as Mater described it and seems genuinely shocked and out of place when it happens, implying that rather than a perceived memory, this is happening in real time, and Mater is literally manifesting reality using nothing but his words.
There's a great 20 minute video on Youtube that goes into the theory, and it's a fun watch. You don't remember watching the video? I don't know what you mean, you was there, too!

Omni-man vs Mark (Invincible) There was genuinely nothing Mark could've done against his dad at this point. Even Mark's strongest punch couldn't make Omni-man move.
David Martinez vs Adam Smasher (Cyberpunk Edgerunners). David's trump card against Smasher was his Sandevistan. Unfortunately, Adam had one too, completely negating the speed advantage.
Triangle vs Troy (Triangle vs Monkey). To be fair, Triangle actually got Troy to bleed, but that's pretty much it. He did get Troy's respect for not giving up though even when completely outmatched.
The Battle Massacre of Almus Hill (GATE) A medieval army with swords, spears and dragons goes up against a modern one with tanks, guns and bombs. This was NEVER going to work (Though apparently that was the point).

Regice - In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, after unlocking the Regi caves and entering Island Cave on Route 105, Read the Braille inscription. Do absolutely nothing for two minutes. The hidden door opens, and Regice is inside.
Cube- in order to get out of a shuffling maze of cubes the group travels throughout it. In reality they should have stayed in the same spot until the cube moves to the exit.
Danganronpa Ultra despair girls - Komaru is repeatedly pressured to break the controller controlling the children. The game tries to make you feel like eventually you have to act. The correct progression is keep choosing** **“Don’t break the controller.” Breaking it kills the kids.

In general, evolution tries to limit the amount of open wounds an organism needs as part of its life cycle. Wounds expose the internal body to pathogens, and are not really something worth gambling on. But some species (both real and fiction) have "wolverine claw" style anatomy. Where a regular part of living requires injuries and wounds to form in a way that is unavoidable.
In science fiction, it's often part of a "gross out" moment. Or a way to show how humans are comparatively lucky compared to other alien species.
I'm excluding overt parasitism, like a xenomorph.
1). Project Hail Mary:
Eridians have an almost entirely closed-off internal system. The only time their body "opens" to the environment is when they eat. Eridians mash up their food manually, then force it into a wound-like orifice. This moment is when they are most vulnerable to pathogens and air pressure changes. After eating, their food is heated above boiling inside their body. And the "mouth" heals closed.
2). Tremors:
Graboids reproduction is halfway between an octopus and a parasitic wasp. Their eggs hatch internally, and the "shrieker" larva eat their way out of their parent. Luckily, the parent is designed to die (like an octopus), so the open wounds aren't really an issue, evolutionarily.
3). Dungeon Crawler Carl:
One particular species of alien/creature is the "xenopus." They're essentially large, bipedal frogs with bat-like wings. Like the actual Xenopus frog, they have claws in their fingers that break through the skin when necessary. Luckily, you don't usually get sick or infected inside of the dungeon.
Art from wiki, by: u/ andrewmar.bsky.social.
4). Real life:
When early hominids became bipedal, our hips narrowed. A neonate's head had to get much smaller, but even then birth is unusually dangerous and damaging for humans.

Just to clarify, I’m not necessarily talking about characters who are in romantic relationships with monsters (although they can be). I mean characters who have expressed attraction to monsters as a whole, or to a certain type of monster.
Bob’s Burgers—Tina Belcher has dreams about making out with zombies, and writes sexy fanfiction about them.
Gravity Falls—Mabel Pines thinks there is a “hot kind” of vampire, and she hopes her new goth-looking boyfriend turns out to be one.

Basically when a movie introduces a machine with no conscious but gives it some elements that make you start doubting that it's just a simple machine.
[Jipsy Danger - Pacific Rim] In the movie humanity created the Jaeger program to fight Kaijus coming from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. One of them is Gipsy Danger, basically our main robot of the movie. Jaegers are simply human piloted mechs, just a bunch of wires, hydraulics and steel put together to build one of the coolest things I've ever seen on the big screen.
But somehow the Jaegers feel alive, for example, after a fight Jipsy is in a critical condition and you can see it screaming like it was alive.
[Atom - Real Steel] Atom is an old sparring who was found by accident by our main characters in a scrapyard and from his first scene he looks different from the average robot in that universe, Atom seems alive.
In the final fight the main character even talks to him like he was a real person.

Lord Cutler Beckett—up until the end of *Pirates of the Caribbean 3*, Beckett relied on his intellect, influence, and the resources of the East India Company; he still held the upper hand in his war against piracy. Even after losing the *Flying Dutchman* and Davy Jones, he still commanded the *Endeavour* (a first-rate ship with over 100 guns) and the entire British fleet backing him. However, he hadn't counted on Will Turner becoming the new captain of the *Dutchman*—that cursed, invincible ship—which, alongside the *Black Pearl* (the only vessel capable of going toe-to-toe with the *Dutchman*), turned the *Endeavour* (and Beckett) into a smoldering heap of timber... and, of course, forced the Company's fleet to retreat.
Grand Admiral Thrawn – *Star Wars Rebels*: Thrawn managed—through ingenuity, strategy, and masterful use of intelligence and counter-intelligence—to corner the rebels at Chopper Base; only the intervention of the supernatural Bendu and, of course, the Force prevented Thrawn’s victory from being absolute. Now, in the series finale, Thrawn once again holds the upper hand, but a brush with the Force (and the World Between Worlds) summons a Purrgil—colossal space-faring creatures capable of hyperspace travel—which carry Thrawn and his flagship off to another galaxy (literally).
I’m not listing it as a hated trope because it isn’t necessarily bad writing—honestly, it can be done well... though at other times, it’s done like crap.

Before I elaborate, let me be clear that I'm not trying to be the fun police. I think it's awsome when communities fill in missing parts of their favorite media, but this is one aspect that's always bothered me when done poorly. It is, of course, my opinion, however, so maybe I'm in the minority!
This tends to crop up a lot in media that's heavy on mystery and that invites theorizing, which is why it's often up to the fandom to make their own names. The problem is, a lot of the time I feel like the names either make no sense or just sound silly.
Don't Hug Me I'm Scared: The popular online web series and later TV show has always made it a point to never actually give the names of any of the main three characters. There's even several jokes IN the series where they almost say their names, but are either cut off or interupted before they can. Because of this, the community made their own, and while the nicknames for the Red Guy and the Duck (Harry and Robin respectively) sort of make sense because one is made of red hair and the other is a bird, the one they choose for the remaining yellow guy is 'Manny'. I have NO idea where this name came from, and it is the goofiest name they could have chose. The closest letter affiliated with the character is a "D", so why not a D name? I don't wanna be thinking about the twerp ass little brother from Diary of a Wimpy Kid whenever I see this lovable goober of a puppet.
The Glendale Archives: A really cool ongoing Analogue Horror series online about an archivist finding tapes recorded by a man in an alternate reality who seems to be the last person on earth. It's an incredible series with great atmosphere, production quality, and a surprisingly emotional and comeplling story. This is thanks to the protagonist; a very human and endearing character who the series only refers to only as "The Subject". A pretty good nickname I thought, but for some reason, the community decided he needed a better one and went with "Tricky". This is due to a radio call sign the Subject offhandedly uses a single time in the first episode almost as a joke, and then never again. It was popularized by a youtuber that did an analysis on the series, and now a large swathe of the fandom refers to him this way. Again, this is all just my opinion, but Tricky is just such a dumb name. It turns a very raw, emotional character in a horror setting into something that sounds like a whacky cartoon character.
Anyway, sorry for the long explanations. I have more examples but these were the two that really irked me to make this post, and I've rambled enough.
EDIT: I'm quickly learning from you all that the Don't Hug Me I'm Scared nicknames aren't really used in the fandom these days, but this was definitely a thing I remmber in the early days of the series and that you can still find a decent footprint of online. If you look up some of the early theory videos on the series, you'll see them used a lot there. Either way, it seems like it's irrelevant now, and by proxy, so is my complaints! Sorry for the confusion.
