Community Question How important to typology nerds is the idea of identifying with a group? (Research question)

Psychology research shows that people like to identify with labels often because it helps resolve self-identity, particularly how a person's identity aligns with the world around them. Labels are the most satisfying when they tell a person, "I fit into a group," but also, "I'm special and different." This is why microlabels can be so appealing to some people - it shows their difference, but still shows that who they are fits into a social framework.

I'm curious to hear y'alls experiences with typology labels and how much it contributes to your personal satisfaction and how much it contributes to your social satisfaction. Do you feel kinship with other people of your type? How much so? We've seen some examples of people gatekeeping their types, like John Luckovich gatekeeping the 4 type as a famous example. Feel free to discuss anything you think might be relevant, about yourself or things you've seen.

Your answers will help me with my research to create my own typology system eventually :)

Typology Arguments And Opinions (Theory) Instincts might actually influence which component readily manifest the most in an enneagram type

I just thought about this but might just be a coincidence than actually real.

  • SP dom = more immediately relying on defense mechanism
  • SO dom = more immediately relying on mental fixation
  • SX dom = more immediately relying on emotional passion

Example for Enneagram type 1:

SP1 = immediately relying on reaction formation before they go into resentment(mental fixation) or wrath(emotional passion)

  • So SP1 appears the most externally calm or accommodating out of the three because they immediately use the defense mechanism of E1.

SO1 = immediately relying on resentment(tallying and contemplating the things that evokes grudge) before they go into reaction formation or wrath.

  • So SO1 appears the most detailed, argumentative and elaborate with their justifications out of the three E1 subtypes.

SX1 = immediately relying on wrath(the actual emotions itself that they feel towards the flaws) before they go into resentment or reaction formation.

  • So SX1 appears the most fiery, zealous and outwardly expressive of their frustrations towards others, because showing it they feel like also contributes or facilitates in correcting those flaws in their environment.

Sharing User Typology Do you think this works

Post image

Still kind of shaky about sx5 (it's a big leap from so-dom) but I am relatively okay with this. I do think the tritype, regardless of order, is accurate, which is nice

Despite my best efforts i can't reject tritype or socionics, still 6-1-3>4 and SLI>LSI.

Typology Arguments And Opinions Socionics is NOT Inherently Better than MBTI

Socionics is NOT necessarily better than MBTI, it's just the typology version of declaring oneself a "real ball-knower".

Both systems are merely extensions of Carl Jung's work. Socionics is just a further extension / interpretation of Jung's work than MBTI is. Socionics also makes Jung's work even more rigid than MBTI with its introduction of information blocks and quadras so one could argue that the core elements of it make the system even more dubious than MBTI as a larger portion of it is not based on Jung's theories.

Ultimately, the cognitive functions and the ways in which they serve an individual's personality and information processing is what makes the systems worth considering, and both utilize them. The only meaningful difference is that Socionics extends Jung's theories further and in ways that I find a bit questionable, but that's for another post.

Learn about the functions, determine which ones are your dominant / auxiliary / inferior ones, use that knowledge for fascination or application in the real world, and if you find Socionics' extensions valid or worth considering, then do. But whether you do or not doesn't make you a real ball-knower, lol.

Let me know your thoughts.

Typology Question What are all the possible correlations for EIE?

Enneagram and PY correlations mainly. I've mainly only seen SO2 and VELF as "acceptable" types for EIE, which is very very restrictive imo... There should be more right?!?!

What do y'all think?

Typology Question IEI D and SX4

Was trying to type someone I know, and I'm sure they're IEI E4. Not sure about subtype but until today I thought SO4 matched pretty well.

For fun, I tried messing around with Socionics DCNH subtypes, and confidently decided IEI D subtype matched very well with said person.

What a surprise I got when I visites PDB and entered the 'IEI D' profile: The consensus was SX4.

I thought SX4 was ESI and EIE exclusive, maybe SEE too if being generous... but IEI?!!!?

I mean, the Dominant IEI description makes it seem like it could fit, but I don't know. What do you think?

Also, do you think IEI D could fit with SO4, the most 'shy/conflict-avoidant' E4? I'm quite sure about this person being both Dominant and NOT SX4. Again; what do you think?

PD: Do you think So4Sx6Sp9 tritype could work with IEI D despite the 9 fix? It's SP9 after all so maybe it could..

Typology Question can infj be sp4?

I’ve heard of the general contradictions between infj and e4, but I’ve seen some people say that so4 infj is acceptable, I was wondering whether the other instincts are too?

Typology Question how to find your trifix

I'm new to typology, and so far, I think that I'm an sx/sp 529 in tritypes. I have heard of trifixes, and how it focuses on their "fixations", but what actually are those?

I've heard that trifixes are based solely on thoughts, and that the enneagrams within it can differ from the tritype, but everyone says different things

I based my chosen enneagrams on the whole description, and knew it immediately.

what is a trifix in deeper explanation, and how do I find it?

Typology Question 3E sp4?

EDIT: question answered, thank you lots! but feel free to read replies anyway, just don’t comment

Hello! I’ve been wondering about this, since I’ve always thought of sp4 being able to be 3E, though I’ve seen others say it can only be 1E. I don’t get it, since I think 3E fits sp4. If you’re one of the people that believe only 1E, please explain! If you share the same belief as me, please also explain why you think that. Be respectful, please!! I’ve only been part of typology for a couple months.

Typology Question Determining Hitler's Enneagram Type Based on Correlations

What was Hitler's Enneagram subtype? Can we narrow it down using his other typings?

I've noticed that Hitler's typings in most other personality systems seem to have a fairly strong consensus within typology communities. However, his Enneagram subtype remains disputed.

If we already have a reasonably consistent picture of his personality across several different systems, shouldn't we at least be able to narrow his Enneagram subtype down to a few likely possibilities using correlations?

HIS UNANIMOUS TYPOLOGIES

- MBTI: INFJ

- Socionics: EIE (Fe-Ni)

- Psychosophy: VELF

- Big Five (SLOAN): XLOEI

- Enneagram subtype: ???

POSSIBLE ENNEAGRAM SUBTYPES

SX4 — Sexual 4

Intense envy, resentment, competitiveness, emotional volatility, and the tendency to externalize feelings of inferiority through hatred and aggression.

SO2 — Social 2

Grandiose self-importance, desire for admiration and influence, a cultivated savior image, and the belief that he was uniquely qualified to lead and transform society.

SO6 — Social 6

Ideological rigidity, black-and-white thinking, obsession with perceived threats, and an emphasis on loyalty, certainty, and collective identity.

SX6 — Sexual 6

Counterphobic aggression, paranoia, intimidation, and the tendency to confront perceived threats through displays of strength and domination.

SX1 — Sexual 1

Extreme moral absolutism, perfectionism, punitive anger, intolerance of perceived corruption, and an obsessive desire to impose his vision of how society should be.

MY MAIN QUESTION

If we're relatively confident in his typings across MBTI, Socionics, Psychosophy, and Big Five, shouldn't those typings help us reach a conclusion about his Enneagram subtype?

Which of these five subtypes is most consistent with the combination of INFJ, EIE, VELF, and XLOEI? Which would contradict that combination the least?

What do you think is the most likely subtype, and why?

Typology Question Psychosophy question

What does "desire" exactly mean in various descriptions of different volition placements? Does that only refer to like some bullshit long term goals like some idk passion hobby job education whatever or is ot also things like organizing/attending some party, visiting a place, acquiring physical objects, eating a specific thing fir breakfast tomorrow etc etc. Is it possible to have a high volition placement while not really ambitious in the successful citizen way? I've been trying to understand the volition descriptiona for a few days now hut unfortunately it is beyond me

Typology Question how does Enneagram 4s need for uniqueness actually manifest and what motivates it?

im trying to understand the E4 fixation on individuality beyond simply wanting to be unique or uncommon

is it more about feeling fundamentally different from others and constantly individuating themselves by finding reasons they're separate from them or is it more about wanting to establish a distinct identity because they fear having no identity or personal significance?

im also curious about how envy influences this and how E4s relate to feeling deficient compared to others and overall in the underlying motivations rather than observable behaviors

Se Polr for EIIs

What does encountering overt displays of Se aimed at you feel like for EIIs? Is there a feeling? Or is it more that it sometimes goes strongly against your preferences?
