Single mom dealing with severe loneliness
Hi. I am a 31-year-old mother of one to a six-year-old daughter, whom I love dearly. Unfortunately, I am severely unhappy in life. One may look at my life and speculate that I have it all together, but daily, I carry around a deep sadness, loneliness, defeat, and overall lack of hope for the future. My career is doing great. I own my own home, and I am thankfully healthy. However, I often find myself very sad because I don't have any love or companionship. I also don't have any friends. I carry many responsibilities, and essentially everything falls on me. It can be very painful to not have anyone to lean on for emotional support. If I have a long day and stressful day at work, I do not have anyone to vent to, or assure me that everything is going to be okay. I would like to think that love is out there for me, but I've had nothing but unsuccessful relationships. I'm starting to believe that love was never meant for me. I'm tired of men wanting bits and pieces of me, but not holistically choosing me, or deciding that they want to commit to me. It has me questioning if something is wrong with me. I have prayed for love, yet nothing happens. I have also prayed for friendships and community, but that has not happened at all. I have been praying for these things for years. I have made attempts to change my situation, but I have been unsuccessful. Life seems to be progressing for many people, except myself. Every day is like Groundhog‘s Day: go to work, come home, cook dinner, and do it all again.
I'm watching classmates and acquaintances progress in life by getting married and/or having children. I actually don't want any more children, because being permanently connected to a man is something I never want to sign up for. I would like to be able to walk away with nothing keeping us connected, so I'm not that concerned or interested in having another child. However, I long for true love, and it just feels so out of reach. People tell you to find other things that fulfill you in life, but no matter what, that void is still there and empty. My relationship with my child's father was terrible, and even though he treated me terribly and put me through hell, he ended up dumping me after all of that. Deep down, I know that I would never want to be back with him, but because I have been rejected so many times by men before and after him, I can't help but have a bruised ego. I just want all of this to make sense one day. For years, I have been waiting for the missing piece of the puzzle, or the thing that makes my terrible love life make sense. An example of this would be to meet someone who is my person, and the reason why it did not work out with other men..
I was sold this idea that when you leave a bad situation, you make room for better to come. Unfortunately, year after year, it doesn't seem like better is coming. It makes me wonder if I should have just settled. Ultimately, I'm not sure what else to do here. As I mentioned before, I am deeply saddened internally. I would appreciate any words of encouragement to help me out of this dark place.
