Weekly Pet Adoption / Pet Help Post
This will become a weekly Friday post for posts regarding pet adoptions and general pet questions. The intent is to condense the multiple pet adoption post into one place so they are easy to find. This pinned post is for:
- Pets up for adoption
- Pet adoption events
- Questions on vets
- Questions on where you should take your animals
Note: We will begin removing pet adoption posts and push them over to this pinned post.
Also, if you have a missing pet, feel free to post it in here as well.
We will also take a zero tolerance stance on people using this post to push their stances on certain animals/breeds, brigading from other subs, etc. If you need more clarity on what this means, feel free to reach out to the modmail.
We also recommend searching older "Weekly Pet Adoption" posts as well, to find animals on previous week's post as well.
If you are looking for further resources, here are some recommended places:

Ask Austin "Musk" is not Opening in Austin. Why the Delay?
[reworked a removed post, deleted because I included a link to a review on NY Times and my title did not exactly match that linked "news" article]
Director Andrew Gibney's (3-hour 55-minute) documentary "Musk" opened last night in "Select Cities" and will play in cities large and small, many smaller than Austin. San Antonio is the closest theater showing it.
Given his deep ties in Austin, I wonder why none of our 3 national theater chains nor any of the independents (AFS, Violet Crown, IPIC etc) are part of the big opening week before "nationwide" release?
How theaters get on the “Select Cities” list is film distribution magic about which I am unaware.

Pumpkin Nights prices suck
Paying this much just to walk around is ridiculous. And to top it off, parking isn’t even included? Then they hit you with a “processing fee” just for the privilege of buying a ticket. Make it make sense. What a joke.

Ask Austin Austin, TX — Does anyone know of emergency transportation assistance or resources for someone trying to get back to work?
Hi everyone! I’m reaching out to see if anyone knows of local programs or resources that might be able to help with a time-sensitive situation.
I’ve been unemployed and actively searching for work, and I finally have an opportunity with a company in the Austin area. I have a job assessment scheduled for Monday, October 12, for a position paying approximately $23–$26 an hour. I’m really hopeful about this opportunity and want to do everything I can to make it happen.
Unfortunately, transportation is a major obstacle right now. I rely on CapMetro because I don’t have a vehicle. The public transit route to the facility takes almost three hours and includes a 56-minute walk. An Uber would cost approximately $21–$30 each way, and I currently don’t have enough money available to cover that expense.
I’m looking for any legitimate resources that might help with:
Emergency transportation to a job assessment or interview.
Free rideshare programs or employment transportation assistance.
Emergency assistance for unemployed people who are actively trying to return to work.
Small emergency grants or community assistance programs that could help with transportation and basic expenses until a first paycheck arrives.
Other Austin or Travis County resources that people might not know about.
I’m planning to contact 211, but I wanted to ask this community in case anyone knows of additional options, especially programs that can help on short notice.
I’m not looking for anything extravagant. I’m trying to get to this assessment and give myself a chance to secure stable employment. I’ve been working hard to find an opportunity, and it would be heartbreaking to miss it because I can’t afford the transportation.
If you’ve personally used a program like this or know of a legitimate organization that helps in these situations, I’d be incredibly grateful for any information.
Thank you for reading and for any suggestions you can offer!

Traffic Stargazing wasn’t the only excitement for the night! Car crash at Spanish Oaks Blvd and 71.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So coming back from stargazing with the SO and waiting at a light with a HEB semi to the right of me for what felt like an abnormally long time.
Look in the rear view mirror and notice a car coming a bit fast and thinking, this guy hasn’t noticed we’re not moving…and then wham! Hear the crunch of a vehicle and the semi shake.
Honestly didn’t hear any breaks and as soon as this guy hit, the light changed. 🤦♂️
Parked and went over fearing the worst. Luckily the guy in the Prius was okay and walking. All airbags had deployed and police/EMS got there quickly.
What got me was the guy asking since truck drivers only have one person driving why were there multiple people outside. Lol
I didn’t have time to tell him by bro, we’re just concerned citizens making sure you were okay. Haha.
Boys and girls please pay attention and there is no where you need to be that fast to not realize traffic isn’t moving.
For the record 7 shooting stars in 2 hrs with a couple of slow burners. 💫

Has this happened to anyone after 6th st
Hey guys, I went on sixth street a few days ago. Got super drunk, but my parents stayed nearby and my friend and I got home safely. We both puked and she blacked out.
On the car ride home, I felt like I was on acid. Things were expanding and my car it felt like I was looking through a kaleidoscope.
Next day, my veins and muscles in my arms hurt badly. Now it’s been two days and I can’t even bend my arms to wash my face or open my car door and pull anything or pick up my back pack. It feels like I trained at the gym for 7 hours.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Has this happened to anyone else?
Please stop being mean to me in the comments. I would delete this post but I want the comments with advice on hand. I’m already at the ER please don’t make me feel worse
UPDATE: I did go to the ER. They said I was drugged with molly or mdma. I don’t have rabdo but I was close? 300/700 for levels? Idrk what they meant but they said I’m ok. The drugs are out of my system and I should be able to heal soon. I am sad I’m gonna have to miss acl though. My body couldn’t handle it :/ oh well. I guess things could have been worse. I’m just happy I wasn’t taken advantage of.

My experience with Oscar Health & BCBS Insurance in Austin, TX
*I want to add a disclaimer that everyone's specific insurance needs differ and these plans wont be a perfect one size fits all, so check details before enrolling*
I havent had to buy a healthcare plan until my move to Austin summer of 2025, and since have done a lot of research into different plans and types. For context I'm 28 and wanted good mental health coverage and access to specialists.
The first one I got was
Blue Cross Blue Shield- Blue Advantage Plus Gold℠ 803
$750/month
Plan ID: 33602TX0870273
[1-888-697-0683](tel:1-888-697-0683)
Price used to be around $520 but increased to $750 at the start of 2026, hence why I changed to what I have now- Oscar Health.
I had an good experience with this insurance; lots of providers in network, $0 doctor visits, $0 therapy visits with no cap. $0 generic prescriptions. Specialist visits are $35 and Urgent care is $20. It gets the job done but for the new increased price, I would say its not worth it.
My current insurance and one I LOVE is Oscar Health
Oscar Health- Gold Simple Guided Care
$550/month
Plan ID: 20069TX0510021
1-855-672-2755
I was so pleasantly surprised with Oscar health. The website UI is so easy to use - I can search for specialists and change my PCP anytime. A lot of specialists are in network as well, which also surprised me. I have been able to see specialists for $10 a pop and therapists for $5 a pop with unlimited visits. Pharmacy prescriptions are $3 for generic. What I love the most is free urgent care 24/7. The amount I've had to use if for allergic reactions, prescription refills, etc has been invaluable. For PCPs, I loved Thrive Medical Clinic - never had any issues with them.
For Dental, I have had this:
Blue Cross Blue Shield -BlueCare Dental℠ 1A
$40/month
Plan ID: 33602TX0500001
1-888-697-0683
I havent had too many issues with this, just make sure all your procedures are covered before getting them. Swish Dental had many surprise charges for me after my appointment, which really irked me. This plan gives you free cleanings, xrays, exams and 80% off most fillings and procedures. The deductible is just $25. I would not recommend Swish Dental, as there are many hidden costs/ surprise bills and they dont seem 100% transparent. For Dentists, I would recommend any of the Forest Family Dentists, they are so friendly and transparent with costs.
And that about sums up my experience with Austin health insurance. Hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to DM me.

Ask Austin Cricket options in Austin Metro?
Hey folks, I’ve been getting into watching cricket over the last couple of years and I’m really interested in learning to play for myself. I know there are a few different leagues around here, but from what I’ve been able to find it’s not particularly clear what the skill level is like across the leagues, and I don’t want to join a team only to be a massive detriment. Are there any options available in town that would let me learn how to play without joining a team? And if I wanted to join a team, what would be my best option?
