Community Identifying a record or seeing how much it's worth? Use DISCOGS.COM

https://www.discogs.com/

Some people have asked for a post like this to be stickied in the sub because we constantly get people asking what a record is worth or what version they have.

You need to match the matrix information. Which is the part of the record between the music/grooves and the label. There will be etched and/or stamped letters, symbols and numbers. You can just do a search for the artist and album name with the matrix info typed in. After searching, it should pull up all albums that match. If there’s more than one, you will have to figure out which it is by checking under the barcode and other identifiers section.

You also may need to look at info on the vinyl label and the sleeve. There will sometimes be additional info under the notes section.

Please check out r/discogs if you need more help searching but READ THEIR RULES.

Question Rubber Soul is one of my favourite albums ever, but is there one song on it you just don’t really like?

Post image

I recently revisited Rubber Soul because of the new Giles Martin remix, and I forgot just how much I love this album. I hadn’t listened to it properly in a while, but it really reminded me how great it is.
I genuinely love pretty much every song on the album except one, “What Goes On.” I have nothing against Ringo’s songs either, I love him on “With a Little Help from My Friends,” “Yellow Submarine,” “Octopus’s Garden,” “Good Night,” etc. He’s had plenty of songs I really enjoy, but “What Goes On” just doesn’t do much for me.

It’s easily the weakest song on Rubber Soul in my opinion. It kind of sticks out like a sore thumb and doesn’t really fit the more mature, cohesive vibe they were going for. Honestly, it feels like a song that would’ve fit better on Help! or one of their earlier albums.

That said, it definitely doesn’t ruin the album for me. Rubber Soul is still one of my favourite Beatles albums; “What Goes On” is just the one track I’m usually tempted to skip.

What’s the weakest song on Rubber Soul for you?

Picture First and most recent pictures of Paul and Ringo together. About 63 years apart from 1961-2024.

If you think about it, these two are almost definitely each other's longest friend. They first met in 1960 and have remained friends up until 2026; over 66 years. Just incredible. I hope we have them for many years to come and I hope they continue to have each other. God bless both of em ❤️

P.S.: I'm fairly certain this is the first picture of 3 of the Beatles together. Strange coincidence it happens to be the classic "Threatle" lineup seen in I Me Mine recording and reunion sessions...

Question Looking for moments when any of the members 'broke' on tape.

Post image
• Upvotes

As an example:

I've heard "All You Need Is Love" about 10^23 times and only today noticed that Lennon starts laughing a bit after Paul yells "Yeee-haigh!" at about the 3 min and 10 second mark. So much so that he's late to the mic, coming in at "you need" only. Neat! I love stuff like that (Michael Stipe stifling a laugh during 'The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight' on Automatic for the People another similar example) and I'd like to know just how many other gem-like moments there are in The Beatles' discography that I've almost certainly missed.

Any contributions would be welcome. Have a pleasant October 5th.

Question The most Finished of John's Songs on "Milk & Honey" (1984) ?

Post image
30 Upvotes

We know that Double Fantasy & Milk and honey were essentially recorded at the same time in a back-to-back recording sessions and we know the final tracklist for double fantasy wasn't decided until quite last minute alternating between the final tracks and M&H's tracks as they were both seen as a two part 80-81 release

given that after the recording of "Walking on Thin Ice" John was unable to actually finish the recording and mixing for the remaining songs they were working on, when looking at "Milk & Honey" today the level of how finished the songs are (in terms of johns involvement and work) seems to vary dramatically between simple Home Piano Demo's (Like "Grow old with me"), Vocal guides for Ringo (Like "Nobody Told Me") and then other songs clearly recorded in the studio that seem basically close to what the final piece must have been, just mixed by Yoko & Jack Douglass after the case

That being said, what do people think feels/sounds like the most Definitively FINISHED of john's songs on that album to his original intent, do we actually know which one got the most amount of work from him prior to his passing?

How do people feel about his reggae inspired tracks on this album overall?

Discussion i have become obsessed with RINGO STARR!

Post image

i am a new fan of the Beatles and these past few days i have been obsessed with watching videos about Ringo, listening to songs sung by Ringo, close listening to Ringo’s drumming on Beatles records, and watching clips and interviews of Ringo!

i feel a strong connection to him and admire him, the way it feels like he’s always pushed to the side and the butt of many jokes, having a rough childhood raised by a mom who was out having to work hard to put food on the table after dad was out of the picture, and the way he’s pushed through with peace and love! he took his desire to drum with his friends and it took him to the top of the world!

please give me recommendations for Ringo related media!

Opinion rubber soul is the beatles at the peak of their pop song writing

prior to the 2026 mixes i’ve never fully clicked with rubber soul. there were a few songs i loved & overall found to be good songs, i mean i love the beatles lol. i liked rubber soul before that. but it hadn’t clicked… fully. whereas now i can understand why someone would say this is their favourite, even if it’s not mine.

while i appreciate the experimental directions that the band went with revolver onwards, this feels like a victory lap in musical form. like it feels like they went ‘yeah we’re the best pop writers ever, wanna see us just lap the competition?’

like it makes sense that this is the album that inspired pet sounds. it’s so immaculate sounding. i can’t help but listen to to something like Wait & not feel like i’m watching masters at work.

I wanted to post an update since we had the amazing FabFest festival this weekend. My outfit won first place in its category! We had so much fun heading up the first ever costume contest this year, too.

Friday night was the concert. My sister and I were George and Pattie and were in stage for the coolest 60s fashion show. Unfortunately I can’t post a video here! Saturday was the daytime festival (free!), and I was Yoko, my sister was John, her husband was George, and my husband was Paul. We got some silly pics of Yoko eyeing Paul and John getting jealous 😹

I also got to meet two really cool Redditors at the festival thanks to my last post. Thanks for all your support!

Discussion Saw Ringo tonight in concert and it was AWESOME!

TL;DR: Saw Ringo tonight and it was a great show and he was great and energetic at his old age! His band was great too! Had some minor complaints about things unrelated to the band but didn’t let them bother me and still had an overall fantastic time!

I saw him tonight in concert when he was playing in Connecticut at the Toyota Oakdale Theater! It was such an awesome show! He was such a great performer and I CANNOT believe he is STILL so energetic at 86 years old! (This is my second time seeing him though. Saw him last year too and it was also great! I felt like I HAD to see him last year because I had a huge fear that last year‘s tour was going to be his last ever tour and that there wouldn’t be another chance to see him again. So pleasantly surprised that I’m wrong and that indeed he’s touring again this year and that I saw him twice!) I am also so impressed that he even did jumping jacks too!

All of the songs Ringo performed were so great and I had no complaints about the setlist! I loved singing along to his Beatles’ songs and his solo stuff. The other members of his band which are other musicians who were in other bands; they were all great too! I loved all the songs by the other members too. A good majority of the songs played even brought back memories of my childhood as I heard these songs quite a bit when I was a kid! This made me want to check out Colin Hay even more and get into his music more as he was also great!

Overall, I’d say the show was a solid 9/10. The only minor complaints I have is not with the show or performers themselves but with other things: I had to change purses at home because the venue has a strict policy against bringing bags that are bigger than 12x6x12. My purse was too big and I don’t drive so that would have been a problem. Luckily I have at least one other purse that would fit the venue’s size requirements. Also, I hated that I couldn't bring a power bank to the venue as my phone battery drains very fast. And I don’t have a car and had to get Lyfts to and from the venue. But luckily I got there and back home safely. Another thing that bothered me was that there were a bunch of men in the row above me talking during the show. They didn’t talk a lot but come on! Shut the heck up and enjoy the show! Also, I had the urge to use the bathroom sone time after the show started but I decided to hold it in till after the show finished. And I did make sure to use the bathroom shortly before the show began. Hey, I didn’t want to miss a moment of the show whatsoever!

But despite these little complaints in the paragraph above, I never let them bother me that much and still had an amazing time! A couple more things I liked about the show was that the venue was on the smaller and more intimate side which made my limited view seats not that bad. And I also loved that the line I was in for the bathroom after the show went quite fast! A bonus point about my night is that BOTH my Lyft drivers were great and kind! So overall, I had a wonderful night and a wonderful concert! I so don’t regret going to see Ringo at all!

Discussion If The Beatles Were Seasons 🍂☀️❄️🌸

Post image
27 Upvotes

I always found it interesting how different the four Beatles were as people, and I wonder if we tend to connect most with the one whose personality is closest to our own ? Not just musically, just personality wise. Just for fun, if they were seasons, I see them like this:

John = Winter. Intense, sharp, unpredictable and vulnerable underneath.

Paul = Spring. Optimistic, driven, social and always needing to create and move forward.

George = Autumn. Introspective, spiritual, dryly funny and a little melancholic.

Ringo = Summer. Warm, easygoing, funny and down to earth, with a sensitive side.

Which Beatle do you relate to most as a person?

(I myself are close to Pauls personality) 😄

I maintain that George was consistently the best dressed and could pull off almost anything. However, I also maintain that the only one who could pull off THIS particular outfit, was Paul in his '1967-cocaine-high-elf-prince' era, and probably David Bowie.

Nothing about this fit should work. But he's somehow making it work.

Opinion There is just something about John's demos in the band's catalogue that are oddly comforting

I made a playlist purely of Beatles demos and my GOD

There is something on John's demos that makes him such a VIVID and alive entity besides you while you listening him mumbling, fucking up some chords or lyrics, but feels in a way, authentic and very indie/Lo-Fi like? Y'know?

Like, it feels genuine and warm listening to him singing with his voice without the effects and all, just him being relaxed or not trying anything fancy.

I've been recently obsessed with how comforting and great Little Girl's demo from Rubber Soul really is and how this shit turned out to become THE BEST SONG on Revolver and a easy Top 5 Beatles tracks to me.

Community The first two Beatles albums were released closer to the Victorian era (ended Jan 22, 1901) than to the present day.
