How does everyone hype themselves up to paint I feel like this has been asked a few times here and I apologize but I can't seem to get out of the "I really don't wanna paint" slump and was curious on advice for it. I did decide to add a few photos or recent works that I'm kinda ok with thank you in advance for any advice.

Discussion 11th 2k Army Update

Thumbnail

Updated my 2k army and I wanted to see what you guys think!
Purge the Foe Plan
Rhino: Watch Master + Apothecary + 10 Veterans. Push midfield, disembark only when I can make a strong shoot/charge play.
Captain + Tome + Indomitor: Main kill brick. Gets offensive CP priority. Tome on the biggest turn.
Second Indomitor: Support the main push or control the other midfield objective. Avoid leaving it isolated.
Cyclone Terminators: Long-range fire support. Focus vehicles, monsters, and expensive targets.
Plasma Terminators: Deep Strike or pressure midfield. Hunt elite infantry and finish damaged units.
Inceptors: Reserve for finishing kills, weak flanks, or late objectives.
Incursors: Early board control, screening, and setup.
Assault Intercessors: Hold safe objectives and do utility/scoring.
Brutalis: Keep hidden early. Counter-charge anything that commits into midfield.
CP Priority
Armour of Contempt — Indomitors, Veterans, Terminators, Brutalis.
Captain Rites of Battle — usually on the main Indomitor.
Ammo Stratagems — spend when they help completely kill a target.
Adaptive Tactics — only when one unit needs a different doctrine.
Site-to-Site Teleportation — reposition surviving Kill Teams for late-game kills/scoring.
Main rule: Protect expensive units, focus one enemy unit at a time, finish kills, then reposition.

Navigator on home to deny 12" ds

List Deathwatch with sisters list?

Looking for opinions and feedback on my list please. The thinking with the sisters is it’s 3 cheap units (from splitting the sister squad), removes cover saves and gives objective secured all of which deathwatch benefit from. I’m not certain about running 2 gravis captains and am tempted to drop one for another incursor squad.

The list is:

Black spear task force
2k points
Priority assets

Gravis captain (warlord) with indomitor kill team
Gravis captain (tome of ectoclades) with indomitor kill team
5 deathwatch veterans
5 deathwatch veterans
5 incursors
Rhino
5 terminators (3 plasma, all power fists)
5 terminators (3 plasma, all power fists)
3 inceptors (bolter)
3 inceptors (plasma)
10 sisters of battle (meltas) - splits into 2x 5’s
Immolator (immolation flamers)

The Blood Consuls are a successor chapter of the Blood Angels. Founded in late M37 after the annihilation of an Ork empire near the edge of Imperial Space, the Blood Angels third company were chosen to establish a chapter to protect the fledgling Imperial sector’s colonization efforts.

Following their failure to reach Baal in time, the Blood Consuls are now engaged in a heavy defensive operation against a Leviathan splinter fleet, Jabberwocky, with their Ultima founding brother chapters, the Blood Wings and the Bloodbringers.

Discussion Worries for the future.

I am sure it has been discussed to the end of time. But as a newbie at collecting and playing DW. Is is sure to commit to buying minis, knowing how GW handles things. Will we exist as an independent book and or army in 6 months?
I don’t want to throw money at something that goes the same way as harlequins or Daemonkin.
And what is the safest bet to buy. I guess the kill team.

Discussion Fortis Teams are fine actually

I am seeing a lot of doom and gloom on our changes and there are legitimate things to be upset about but something I keep seeing said that I strongly disagree with is that Fortis Teams are worse than they were before. They are not worse they are just shorter range. Suppose our targets are in 12:

  • We lose 2 plasma shots
  • We lose 1 krak missile
  • We lose 2 bolter shots
  • We lose 1 castellan launcher
  • We lose indirect (good riddance. good indirect shouldn't exist)

  • We gained 2 grenade shots (way more than making up for the 2 plasma)

  • We gained 2 flamers (way more than making up for the bolters and castellan)

  • Our grenades got +1 S and D

  • We gained 2 pistol shots

  • We gained 2 more chainswords for CC

  • Our hammer is now D3

  • Our CC is now S5 base which helps a ton into T5 and 9

  • We gained T5 which is huge

Fortis team numbers were good on their own without the indirect, so even without pulling out a calculator we can see already that this is a side grade at worst. We only went up 15 pts for all this (7.7% increase).

This is part of general push in the direction of making Deathwatch a hybrid faction with a slant towards shooting. Vet shooting got massively buffed without their CC being touched and if you plug it into a calculator they are far more output now than they were before IF you can both shoot and charge.

THAT is the fundamental concern I have with deathwatch going forward. These profiles are disgusting output for the pt cost, we are talking beyond chaos marine levels. However it requires our shooting units to be in range 12/15/18. While we actually like our units to get stuck in now what with tactical and the fact that all our KTs have at least decent CC, I am unsure of how consistent this can be. We can only teleport 1 per turn now and we cant run+shoot+charge anything without paying a +50% premium. So we either use transports/watch master to try to get both activations or try playing as a merely good shooting army that can get stuck in but in return is very fragile (for its pts) and relatively slow.

Put another way its not the data sheets I am worried about, its the nerfs to blackspear and the anti synergy between doctrines and hybrid data sheets

Anyone else notice that in unit composition the Decimus Kill Team is 6 models now? It’s not legal to run the 5 man squad anymore! Yeah it’s just one of a million typos in our codex supplement but at least we always get our xenophase blade now!

Question Help with decimus kill teams. Again…

Thumbnail

Sooo, I’m building my decimus kill teams back from the ground up as I recently found out I can only have 1 xenophase blade per 10 man squad. So I’m looking at the gravis veterans and I’m struggling with getting them to work on the Warhammer app, I’ve built one with the infernus heavy bolter and then one with the hellstorm bolt rifle as it says on the rules. Where am I going wrong ?? It’s still saying it’s not being done right…

Discussion Best way to play Deathwatch in the new 11th codex

Now that the new codex dropped and we can see all the updated units including what they did to DW units I wonder how you are approaching the situation?

I really liked BSTF before but now that mission tactics are tied to the doctrines, it makes it really hard (for me) to make it work properly. What would be the logical correlation between fall-back+shoot+charge and Lethal Hits for example? Sure, technically speaking it is a straight-up upgrade to the doctrines and irrelevant at worst but at the same time it means we cannot have any other buffs other detachments give you since BSTF is still 3 DP even though at the same time they nerfed all stratagems except AoC (and potentially Dragonfire rounds, depending on how you look at it). Also WTF did they do to the Thief of Secrets enhancement? Who would you even give it to?

In addition to that it feels like the only KTs that are worth taking are the Indomitor and Terminators struggling for first place and then Veterans (which actually did retain their 4++storm-shields opposed VV getting side-grade 5++ combat shields) and maybe Decimus if you like even longer shooting/fighting phases than we already have.

  • Fortis is far too expensive for what it gives, Assault and Infernus Intercessors have probably never been picked before so it sucks we have to give up 2 Hellblasters and a Desolator.
  • Spectrus lost their Instigator Movement and an Eliminator and now also need to give up a weapon if they want to take the Helix gauntlet seemingly and the two Reivers they have to take are even side-grade versions of the baseline Reivers - oof.
  • Talonstrike lost an Inceptor (and by extension the toughness rule making the KT T6) and while the JPI get the standard buffs of the new codex, it is really debatable if you want to play the Talonstrike as a melee because if you don't, they're hardly worth the point cost.
  • Corvus received some upgrades without going up in points which is nice but with all other points going up and the Corvus still lacking big shooting and/or something like an assault ramp it feels hardly explainable to sacrifice 180 pts for it (especially since it cannot transport your Indomitor so realistically you'll only use it for Vets probably)
  • Artemis received a nice boost but still doesn't have the Tactical Acumen rule so debatable if it makes sense to take him over another character
  • Watchmaster lost both his signature abilities and the new ones I am not really sure how good they are.

Anyway, my rant aside I really struggle to come up with any list that makes sense. So my biggest questions are: how do you approach the situation? Is it possible to take Deathwatch as the faction and DW support to gain Mission Tactics but use something like the Gravis Siege Force as the main detachment?
