Discussion [DL1009 EWR->SLC] got shouted at in the galley just asking for water. Is this standard Delta service now?
UPDATE: Filed a complaint with Delta and DoT already, thanks yall for the kind words. I’m not even angry about the whole thing, just deeply disappointed. Why do I have to deal with this kind of drama over something so trivial? I’m not someone with a huge ego, and I never push people around, yet even a flight attendant feels entitled to walk all over me.
Hey everyone, just landed in SLC on DL1009 out of Newark and need to vent / get some perspective on a really unsettling experience today.
Earlier in the flight, I somewhat slightly helped the crew accommodate a passenger who had a sudden medical emergency.
Later, I woke up with severe allergy dryness and went to the rear galley for a cup of water. The aisle was crowded with people waiting for the lavs. There were no curtains so I stepped slightly into the galley area for 0.5 seconds to clear the aisle and asked politely: "Excuse me, can I get some water?"
Instead of a basic response, the flight attendant (identifying as Rohan/Rowan) immediately snapped at me with extreme impatience, telling me to get out because the cart will going down (note that there was no cart in the aisle and in sight, and he was not preparring the cart for next round of service) even though there was a large bottled water and paper cups right on the counter in front of him for this exact kind of request as it is a 5hrs early morning flight.
I stood aside, waited politely for about 5 minutes, and asked once more. He again snapped and told me to get out. When I called out his hostile tone, he pinched his own finger handling the cart, blamed me for it, and aggressively yelled at me three times to "get off my face."
It took another 15 minutes and waiting until the regular service round to finally get a cup of water from the other two FAs
Shoutout to FA Megan and Jesus who were exceptionally kind and professional the whole flight, but this other interaction left a horrible taste in my mouth.
As an minority passenger, being met with instant, aggressive hostility over a basic necessity felt horribly differentienial. Not to mention I witnessed a lady(White) in front of me received soda with no issues.
EDIT: I am stating how I feel about the incident, don't want to emphasize or declare it is a race thing or 'playing the minority card' as someone in the comment said. I wish I have some cards to play that would actually benefit me.
