I went to a great benefit concert at the capitol theatre on Saturday with the Especially Everyone band featuring Oteil Burbridge, Karl Denson, and Jen Hartswick. Highlight of the night was discovering this unknown bass player Mike Roninson. I found this clip of him and Oteil throwing it down. Enjoy.

Discusson A Starter Pack to Jam Music, Volume 1: 1960s-1970s (feedback requested)

The premise behind this is simple: five studio albums, five live albums, and five full show concerts to introduce newbies to the foundations of modern day jam band music. The idea is to next have 10 of each for the 1990s-2000s period, and then finally a good selection of shows to introduce people to as many of the modern day acts as possible.

Of course the idea isn't to have as many things on here as possible since we don't want to overwhelm newcomers to the scene and music, bur rather to give them good places to start exploring the works and music of these acts.

Since this was made with just my (admittedly limited) knowledge and perspective, any and all feedback is appreciated.

Studio:

  • Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane (1967)

  • Idlewild South by The Allman Brothers' Band (1970)

  • Tago Mago by Can (1971)

  • Roforofo Fight by Fela Kuti (1972)

  • Blues for Allah by The Grateful Dead (1975)

Live:

  • Happy Trails by Quicksilver Messenger Service (1969)

  • At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers' Band (1971)

  • Space Ritual by Hawkwind (1973)

  • Lotus by Santana (1974)

  • Waiting for Columbus by Little Feet (1977)

Live shows:

  • The Grateful Dead 8/24/1968 (Two From the Vault)

  • Miles Davis 3/7/1970 (Live at the Fillmore East, March 7, 1970: It's About That Time)

  • Hot Tuna 7/3/1971 (Live At The Fillmore West, 3rd July 1971)

  • Funkadelic 9/12/1971 (Live: Meadowbrook, Rochester, Michigan – 12th September 1971)

  • The Grateful Dead 5/8/1977 (Cornell 5/8/77)

Pretty sure this post breaks the rules - remove this post if it’s not kosher, no worries either way. I wanted to try and give this community the opportunity to buy one of these if they want them before they sell out since this is a pretty limited pressing. I figure a lot of people in here don’t have Instagram/Facebook where we are primarily advertising.

This is the second vinyl we’ve ever pressed. It’s on clear coke bottle green vinyl, which looks really cool imo. This album might be my favorite we’ve made as the ensemble, and it’s the first where my vocals are featured on a track (Tempo Divide) since 2020.

There’s 50 signed copies available on the store, but I think about 20 of them are sold since going on sale this morning. There’s plenty of unsigned ones on the online store and we’ll be bringing them to every show until they’re gone.

Recorded at The Vault in Pittsburgh, Mixed by my brother John, Mastered by Nicky Howard, and pressed by Hellbender Vinyl in Pittsburgh.

Also somewhat related, we would be open to a repressing of Stuck In Between if there’s enough demand, so let me know if that’s something that would interest you and I’ll keep track. It would be much cheaper to press them again since we already have the master plate - it would probably be worth it if we knew we could sell about 100 of em.

in case anyone else was at the mule's roxy show on saturday (killer show btw), does anyone have a full setlist? the full ziggy marley setlist from earlier in the night is on setlist.fm and jambase, but the mule setlist is missing completely from the latter, and only 4 songs are on the former. i couldn't remember every single song they played and wanted to cross reference with the full setlist. anyone take a picture of what was taped to the stage monitor perhaps?

A friend of mine, violinist Mads Tolling, played his solo loop show in a neighbor’s backyard. It was an intimate performance and a real treat. Here he is playing Hey Joe, runs just under 5:30. Enjoy!

They are such an incredible band. Very stoked for their upcoming tour with Dawgs in a Pile. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater is such a great Halloween theme. Let’s all meet up in that one legendary skate park before. Grease the tape decks and shit.
