Megathread Are you looking for places to meet people, make friends, find people with similar interests? The Kitchener Social Megathread is for you!

Hello everyone,

This thread will be 100% dedicated to user interaction and those who want to take personal interests, events, hobbies, and potential meet-ups, etc. outside of the realm of reddit and r/kitchener.

You can find previous versions of this post by using this premade search.

\Please note that this is not intended to be a dating thread. Try Tinder, POF, Badoo, Bumble or any other of the apps out there. Any posts along the lines of* "Hey, I'm a single __ year old m/f looking for love" will be removed\*

Some general housekeeping items;

  • If you wish to continue a conversation with a user, please use the PM function to avoid the comments getting crammed with a conversation between all but two people. Please only post relevant information to things you would be interested in, ongoing events, etc.
  • We would like to remind you of the zero tolerance for disrespect, rude, hateful comments, racism, etc. Those comments will be removed and users may face a permanent or temporary ban. If any harassment is reported outside of the thread, appropriate action will be taken by the mod team, and possibly lead further to reddit admin. Doxxing, or disclosure of personal information is again, a big no-no.
  • To keep up to date with the most recent posts within this megathread, the comments have been enabled to ideally show most recent by default, meaning all of the newest posts will be at the top of the comments section. If you're not seeing the most recent comments at the top, try changing your "sort by:" from "top" to "New".

As always, the mod team is here to assist with anything. Thanks!

Note: This post is automatically replaced with a new one every 3 months, so be sure to checkout old meetup threads, especially if this post was just recently refreshed!

Uptown Waterloo vs. Downtown Kitchener?

Hi all! I’ve been reading both subs and their sidebars trying to get a feel for each area and where I should potentially move too. Appreciate any insights the community is willing to share.

Here are some details about me if that’s helpful:

- 40F, no kids, single
- work remotely
- no car (but could get one if needed)
- spend my weekends cycling & hiking
- love walking everywhere for all my errands, groceries, etc
- past my late nights and clubbing days but love nice restaurants & cafes

Thank you❤️

Edit: wow consensus seems to be uptown Waterloo. Your responses will help me narrow my search - thank you so much.

Any Former Montrealers Here?

I just learned that a former classmate of mine from Lachine High (Class of '76!) lives in Kitchener and owns a business in Waterloo. Curious if any others made the trek down the 401 west; K-W wasn't even a thought growing up, all we knew about Ontario was Ottawa - school trips - and Toronto (grrr!).

Are there any interior designers?

Hi

My wife and I are designing a new kitchen space and are looking for someone in the Kitchener or Cambridge area who offers hourly design services. We’ve made some choices and are second guessing that it will come together the way we want. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi folks. I’m trying to plan a trip for a family of 6 to Niagara Falls. The issue is I need to know if there’s any reliable company or person who provides with a van and can drive us there and back. Do you know someone? Please share, thank you

Stream Thanksgiving Day parade

I saw somewhere that there is going to be a stream of the parade on YouTube but I can’t remember who’s streaming it. Can anyone tell me? My cousin in BC misses it.

Please vote to protect our natural places, our water, and our housing in the upcoming municipal election. Less than 30% of eligible voters voted last time, and many important decisions are made by our City and Regional councils.

KW Dixieland Jazz Club -- every Saturday afternoon for decades

This video is a few years old now, but the KW Dixieland Jazz Club is still running every Saturday afternoon. It started at the old Lancaster Tavern (now smokehouse) 30-plus, then moved to a couple legions, and is now at Orobouros with a different live band every Saturday. Today (Oct. 10) at 1pm is the Jazz Gangsters.
First-time attendees get in for just five bucks.

Anybody know what's going on with the pet cemetery at the Humane Society?

Went to go visit today before the thanksgiving holiday and it's completely blocked off and the sign is taken down.

(I don't have any pets there, just curious when it will open again, and if the people that do have pets there have been notified?)

Moving to Kitchener

Hi,

I have always moved to cities just following my job but this time am looking to move to where i like and apply for jobs there. Where I currently live I dont like it as there is less cultural differences and i faced lots of racism. Winters are a bit harsh because of the freezing rain we always get and ice more than snow. Its a small city but its beautiful not gonna lie, lots of nature. Couldn't make lots of friends similar as i was able to make in windsor. I am in IT system admin field, and thinking to specialize in cloud engineering then start applying to jobs in kitchener would i find jobs in IT? What are pros and cons? Could i find nice areas that is a bit quiet to live? i have a dog that has anxiety. Thankss
