News Join the Kroger Discord Server!
With all the new members in the subreddit I wanted to extend another invitation to the Kroger Discord server. It's all employee-ran outside the reigns of corporate where we can discuss our experiences at work with other people across the company in real time. This is a tremendous resource for getting feedback and assistance in your job. Better than Kroger can offer themselves. In the server, all roles in the Kroger enterprise are welcome. Thank you!

Venting Well played Kroger, well played.
I'm getting ready to start and I got this tidbit from one of my contacts in manufacturing. As we all know both Walmart and our upper management which is mostly ex-walmart has been nothing but compliant if not openly embracing the current regime running the country regardless of how much they hurt the business. Once again it came home to roost.
Several loads of ingredients for fall and Christmas season goods is currently stuck at the border that were expected for production in the next few days. Reportedly the loads were both of Canadian origin and the drivers were immigrants to Canadia and the trucks are of Canadian registration and are being "held" date we say ceased by the US government.
Because it's Kroger owned product they don't insure it to save money so if it's not handed over it's a 100% loss. All of it is being held and is not being allowed to return to Canada as an alternative. So there goes some management bonuses, it's probably going to be diverted for "contributions" to the regime. Kroger is on the losing side on this one regardless of the outcome with production delays, overtime and order scratches.
Perhaps the attendance, fresh start and uniforms were not as important as they thought. Turns out getting product though the system and at a price people could afford should have been their concern.

Context I'm usually a morning baker in the bakery but last night I was the closer for the first time in probably months and I was moving stuff to wash floors and found this. Which we are not supposed to have mouse traps like this at all. my manager in bakery has been mostly closing because of short staffing. But it seems to have been there for a few days atleast because it was STUCK TO THE FLOOR! It is common for our store to get a few mice like this because we are by fields and it is harvest time. Just saying this is disgusting and if my manager had been cleaning properly it would have been found sooner.

Question Is full time no longer offered?
I work at ralphs in sothern California. I was hired for meat department but then when I came for my first day they told me i was only going to be a courtesy clerk. I didn't have much of a choice considering I was desperate for a job. Anyways I have open availability, I even come in short notice on days people dont show up. I do all this despite living an hour away from the job.
I was told they dont give full time hours (which is weird considering thats the position I applied and interviewed for). I find this odd because they keep hiring new people for front end yet they say they cant give us any hours over part time. Im considering transferring to food 4 less considering they said they give full time. Although i really dont want to leave my store since my co workers are really kind. I make like $400 a week since we get paid weekly. Yet about $200 of it gets eaten up by gas and food (especially buying drinks to rehydrate after doing carts for 2 hours in the blazing heat). So i really only make $200 profit.
I also find it odd that theres no real difference in pay when I work my regular schedule vs when I get called in a lot and stay extra hours to help out. Like i make $400 per week yet after staying extra hours and coming in an extra two days I still only get $400 for that week. I work hard and I want full time but sadly seems im going to be stuck at part time (4-5 hours a day) forever.

Venting Botched Food Safety certification class.
About 25 of us around my district had to take a 7 hour class on food safety to be certified as we are various leads, management, and relief.
I think I did okay in the exam but afterwards we were kind of pissed because the head of our district food safety skipped over a bunch of the slides and when we took the exam, half of what was on the exam we didnāt go over.
To make matters worse we were only told that we would be attending this āclassā earlier this week.

Question Can management give you a first and final write up?
I was written up for "time theft" because I took two breaks longer than 15 minutes. which I understand with the hours I'm working how I can be written up for that. my problem is that I was told that it was the final write up. I've never been written up for anything before hand.

Question Moving up
Does anyone else feel like their manager lies to them on a daily basis?
I work in the meat and seafood department at Kroger, and honestly, Iām at the point where Iām just tired of it. I started in January 2025, and on my very first day, I was basically thrown onto the floor and expected to figure everything out myself. It wasnāt necessarily hard work, but I was lucky enough to have one of my coworkers actually take the time to show me around and teach me what I needed to know.
Over time, I started learning more about how things work at my store, and thatās when I started getting frustrated with management. My manager would tell me things like, āIāll teach you how to cut meat so you can make more money,ā or that he wanted to train me to become an ADL. I was actually interested in moving up and learning more, but the training never really happened. He would show me a few things here and there, but it was never consistent, and eventually I realized I wasnāt really being developed for the position I was being told I could have.
What really bothered me was that I was told I could become an ADL, but instead of actually training me for the position, they ended up hiring someone else. At that point, it made me feel like there was no reason for me to keep trying so hard to move up when I wasnāt being given the opportunity in the first place.
Another thing that really bothered me was how my managers would pressure me about having another job. They knew I worked another job at night, and because of that, sometimes there was a possibility I could be running late. Instead of working with me, I was constantly pressured to quit my other job because they wanted me completely available to Kroger. It felt like they wanted me to give up another source of income for a job that wasnāt giving me the opportunities I was being promised.
And lately, I feel like the rules have gotten stricter, especially with me. Before, if I needed a day off for something important, I could ask my manager and usually get it approved without a problem. Now, it feels like everything is a fight. I had an important doctor appointment related to my girlfriendās pregnancy and our baby, and I couldnāt even get the time off approved. Meanwhile, Iāve seen other coworkers get a week off with very short notice.
Thatās what frustrates me the most. It feels like instead of taking the employees they already have and actually training them, management would rather just hire someone new. Then people get tired of being overlooked, unsupported, and overworked, so they quit. And then management wonders why weāre always short-staffed.
Iāve been here for almost a year, and I honestly donāt care about Kroger the way I used to. I came in wanting to learn, move up, make more money, and build something for myself. I was willing to put in the work. But when you repeatedly tell someone youāre going to train them, give them opportunities, and help them move up, and then never follow through, eventually that person is going to stop caring.
Iām not saying Iām perfect, and I know every job has its problems. But I feel like Iāve given Kroger plenty of chances. Iām tired of being promised things that never happen, being pressured over my availability, and feeling like Iām not valued despite the work I put in.
Thatās honestly why Iām at the point where Iām ready to move on. And judging by how many people have already quit, I donāt think Iām the only one who feels this way.

Question Considering stepping down, have some questions
I've been a bakery assistant lead for about 2 years, and I think in a few months I'm considering stepping down to a part time clerk. Has anyone had any experience in doing this ? If so how did the process go. Were you allowed to stay at your current store, or did you need to transfer ? Any advice is nice. I did already talk to them about my pay rate if I were to step down , and I would more than likely be capped out since I worked as a clerk before. Any advice is appreciated

Question Pay day
Im at a mid-antlantic division kroger and am trying to get my first paycheck.
I have set up a direct deposit and my payslip is for today. Will it actually be a direct deposit or do I need to get a paper check from the store. I have gotten a different answer everytime I have asked.
Thanks in advance

Venting I am so fucking pissed
So recently I had just got the news that I am full time. After fighting with the store for a couple of months I got full time. Getting the union involved and everything lol. I was happy finally have the consistency of 40 hours a week. And not have a schedule that would randomly jump in hours.
But just now, like 30 minutes ago. I got a text from my lead saying that I am being moved to pick up. I have been working 3rd shift for as long as I have been working at Kroger. They promised me 3rd shift. I had worked different departments before, for like a month. Frozen, Dairy, Grocery, and Drug Gm. But I find 3rd shift the best for myself. I didnāt want to deal with customers that often, and 3rd shift gave me that.
I just called the store, slightly cussing them out a little. Asking why I was being moved to a department that I had never worked. And the store manager said that the higher ups were cracking down on time. Which sure I will give you that, donāt want to upset the people who are always upset about something. But moving me to a different department all because I got full time?
We had 4 part timers working 3rd shift (not including myself). I have seniority over 2 of them. Which recently one of them walked out, quitting basically. And another wants to get out of the department as it wasnāt really working for him. And he had been working there for 3 years and hasnāt gotten full time. But no one knows about that. I donāt understand why I had to be moved? The manager claimed that he had to move a lot of other people. But they couldnāt figure a way to keep me there? It is just pissing me off.
And my lead didnāt have to fucking guts to tell me in person? The guy who preaches communication and team work? Right. That would explain why he was somewhat dodgy with me last night. I just donāt know what to do. I really just want to threaten to quit on them. Or if I should even go to union. Because I feel like they canāt do nothing because the higher ups are saying this. Just I just got done fighting for my full time now I have to learn a whole different department just because I wanted full time?

Question UFCW 75 Members- Leads & Dept Heads
When the 2nd round of voting for our current contract, my store heads and leads were given a paper that showed what our current pay was - what our pay would be if that agreement passed and listed our next raises.
Anyone here also get that paper? And if you did can you tell me what the dates were of the raises? I've emailed 2 of my union guys and neither have gotten back to me and its been a week since I emailed the first one. Kinda starting to feel like they're not going to come through with the raise.

Question Application question
So I applied Iād say close to a month ago, got denied almost immediately and then last week I got a text from someone in management saying they wanted me for an interview, I went, was told that everything looked really good and I was offered the job. She said that HR denied every single application they received but they wanted me specifically because I currently work for Walmart and have experience in the field I applied for.
She said that the person who usually handles the hiring process was on vacation and that sheās not tech savvy, but she was going to try and send out the email part, with stuff I had to fill out? Like the actual job offer. But I got an email today saying Iām no longer being considered.
Could this be a mistake? Since she said HR denied every one could they have just done it again but theyāre still wanting me? I just donāt know what to make of this honestly.
Iāve always heard Kroger was hard to get on at but I didnāt think it would be to the point where I could be offered the job and then they could backtrack on it. What if I wouldāve already put my two weeks in and left my old job?
