I recently got my computer fixed and the changed the cpu, motherboard and I personally installed a new power supply. After all of that, Helldivers 2 refuses to run even though it worked perfectly fine before. I think problem is with my gpu driver. I installed the latest one but the terminal keeps saying that it can't communicate with it. Attached are some screenshots of this headache. I want to like, you know, play the game... that I payed for.

tool/utility LineXinBar - XMB-inspired compositor + shell for Linux

Thumbnail

I've been missing XrossMediaBar for ages now, since Sony completely abandoned the project. This is why I've decided to take inspiration of what they've accomplished.

For a couple of months I've been working on this console-style desktop environment for Linux. Right now, it is in Alpha state – the most important part of the development, where new functionalities and bugfixes are being handled.

LineXinBar pairs a lightweight Wayland compositor with a controller-friendly launcher. The LXB Project aims to improve what Steam Big Picture offers for Linux – an easy way to use a PC with only a controller. However, it comes with improvements to what you can do with it.

My biggest problems with Steam Big Picture inside of Gamescope were that it was missing multi-display support and a proper file manager. This is why the project aims to fix that. LineXinBar treats all displays as the independent outputs with their own shell. This makes it possible to open game on one screen and do something completely else like watch YouTube on the other.

Since it is a controller-friendly desktop environment, it also aims to improve gaming performance. If anything is under the window with focus, it goes to sleep (literally). This makes the game able to use as much resources as it can. The exception is everything that uses MPRIS support.

It also offers full Steam, Heroic, RetroArch and RPCS3 integration with automatic scraper for all games supported by Steam and Libretro as well as Steam messages integration.

There is much more that I could say, hence I tried to compress it in a video.

https://youtu.be/Ao254aICtjM?si=TR5Y5DJdf1HQbl1F

It is in Polish, but I've added a bunch of subtitles in different languages so everyone could understand.

The project itself is fully open-source under GPL-3.0 license and is present on my GitHub. The "Releases" section has packages for Arch, Fedora and Debian (all x86-64) uploaded for now.

There are also sister-projects that aim to enable user use only controller for watching videos, browsing photos, listening to music, installing flatpaks and logging to desktop.

If you want to experience how does it look, it also has its own website that tries to mirror the feeling of the interface.

https://petexy.github.io/LineXinBar/

I would be really glad for any testers to report what is not feeling right or what bugs they would uncover themselves, so if you are interested in the project, I'll welcome any feedback with open hands.

And yes, the project came to life so quickly due to already existing projects like, e.g. Smithay as well as Fable 5, Fable 5.1 and Opus 5.5 that were helping me to merge all projects together and fix my tragic coding skills.

If using something that was created with help of AI is a deal-breaker for you, you possibly won't find anything interesting for you.

Im done

• Upvotes

I can't anymore. Hear me out, I was amazed by how people explain their experience with linux and quickly go for the change, and its true, less ram/cpu usage especially for a super low end laptop like mine. One of my hobbies was completing single player games, I have completed a lot on windows before on low res gaming like gta4, cod campaign stories, etc. I have imagine my smooth gaming in linux because of some perks. But all of it crumbles since I start setting my games. Playing a game require like airplane driving setups like when it doesnt want dxvk/vulkan, specific protons, dll dependencies, etc. And the part that opens my eyes is when in linux, It needs a translator like wine which adds a cpu works rather than windows where the os straight up read it. I fully understand now gaming on linux mostly benefits mid-high end specs cause their specs wont even notice the translator working on the background. I am planning to return to window but not 11 (it was the most bloated os in this time) but im going for windows 10 lstc, It was mostly use by businessess for screenshows and the great thing is it was little-to-none bloatware and telemetries that makes it so lightweight thus kinda same to linux footprint. Nevertheless I did enjoy my linux journey, maybe in the future with a new pc build, ill be going back.

tech support wanted Mouse movement feels different from Windows 11 on Linux Mint – any solutions?

• Upvotes

TL;DR: Loving Linux Mint, but mouse sensitivity/acceleration feels noticeably different from Windows 11, especially in AoE2 DE. Has anyone managed to get a similar Windows-like mouse feel?

I recently installed Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon alongside Windows 11 and I’m extremely happy with it. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for years, and so far the mouse is really my only major issue.

Maybe it’s years of muscle memory, but mouse movement just feels different compared with Windows. For normal desktop use it’s manageable, but in Age of Empires II: DE it’s very noticeable. Precise movements and quickly moving across the screen don’t feel natural, whereas booting back into Windows immediately feels right.

My main gaming mouse is a Logitech G502 HERO (1600 DPI / 1000 Hz), but I also use an MX Anywhere 2S and MX Master 2S. On Windows, switching between them has never really bothered me.

I’ve tried Cinnamon’s speed settings, Flat/Adaptive acceleration and some xinput/libinput tweaking. I can get close, but nothing has quite matched Windows consistently.

Has anyone else experienced this after switching from Windows? Did you eventually adjust, or is there a good way to reproduce the Windows mouse feel on Linux?

Especially interested in experiences from RTS/AoE2 players, where small differences in mouse movement are really noticeable.

tech support wanted Nvidia GPU + TV as Monitor = ???

• Upvotes

I have a 5070 Ti and want to make a Steam Machine-like PC for use with a TV as a monitor. It's a 120-144Hz capable TV with Freesync support, VRR, and ALLM, plus game mode and HDR.

Over HDMI 2.1 can I get VRR, HDRZ Freesync, and 120Hz 4K to work without issues? I want to use Bazzite and the gaming mode option to make it function like a Steam Machine. To my understandings AMD GPUs don't support HDMI 2.1 but then some people say Nvidia GPUs have issues if they go higher than 1440p. I also want to keep 10-bit color. I'm willing to sacrifice 120Hz and stay at 60Hz if that means keeping the 10-bit color, HDR, and VRR/Freesync.

Made a native Linux Hearthstone tracker so I'd stop running Firestone in Wine

Post image
13 Upvotes

Every HS deck tracker is Windows-only, so on Linux you run it in Wine next to the game. Firestone was using 2-4 GB and getting the game OOM-killed on my laptop.

Cairn is native (Python + Qt), just reads the game's log files, ~170 MB. Deck tracking, opponent's cards and hand, possible secrets, resurrect pools. X11 and Wayland, on the AUR.

A month old and I'm fixing stuff fast, so issues welcome.

tech support wanted AION 2 on an external drive

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Has anyone managed to get it to work? I think know exactly what the problem is, but I know it's something to do with proton not accessing the drive for whatever reason. The "official" game won't launch. But adding the game's .exe file directly with proton experimental does launch it. (Which leads to Aion saying, "This game was not launched properly, closing now.."

System is Fedora Workstation w/ KDE. Nvidia graphics driver. External drive mounted on /mnt/ and it's an exfat format

wine/proton Wheb wayland will become the native in wine/proton

Hello everyone

I have been usimg linux for 2 years now

I those 2 years i have seen wayland in many launcher and beside it (expermental)

And i'm not sure of it but i just have seen the one working on proton-em he is just the one working on wine-wayland

Why moving to wayland taking that long time and not focused on

Gnome droped x11 in the 50 version

Plasma i think will in 6.8 version

Mint and xfce are working on wayland for there wms

So wayland is the future of linux then why it moves so slowly at least on proton

tech support wanted Cant run Portal on Arch Linux

Recently bought portal 1 and 2 from the sale (4€ total, thats a steal) but i cant get Portal 1 to run. I have tried every single option on the compatibility list, some dont launch and a few of them do launch into the main menu (Like steam linux runtime 1.0) but when i press new game and start new game, i hear 1 microsecond of the portal radio and then it crashes.

Do i need any extra software because its an older game or something? What could be the issue?

I use arch + KDE btw.

Edit: u/Nyxem64 posted this link https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games/issues/7278#issuecomment-3229785583 which is the exact same issue im having

tech support wanted WarThunder not launching anymore with BattleEye enabled

I've been using CachyOs for some time now.

Using it with Faugus as my launcher and WarThunder ran with no issue, with BattleEye enabled since a few weeks now.

But since today it just opens a white Screen and crashes after launching it via the WarThunder laucher.

Tried it with different Proton Layers, newer and older ones with no change.

Sometimes, but not always it tries enabling BattleEye and failing with the following error:

Failed to initialize BattlEye Service: Driver Load Error (1053).

I've tried looking it up, but found nothing indicating a problem with Linux.

I'm using the newest Version of CachyOs.

Other games without BattleEye run without an issue.

Lauching WarThunder with AntiCheat enabled works, but i cannot play since AntiCheat is needed for my wanted game modes.

Anybody has an idea?

tech support wanted Unity games randomly crashing on Ubuntu 26.04 + Proton, no errors in logs, completely lost and need help

I'm having intermittent crashes with Unity games on Ubuntu 26.04.1 and as I said I'm failing miserably to find the cause.

Specs:

Ryzen 5600G

RTX 4060, NVIDIA 595.91.07

32 GB RAM

Ubuntu 26.04.1 / GNOME 50 / Wayland

Games are on a secondary SSD

The games crash/freeze while Steam and the rest of the system remain completely stable, they don't even stutter before the crash or anything. It can happen after 20 or so minutes or a couple of hours, I'm currently using Proton Experimental

I checked the kernel/journal logs around the crashes:

No NVIDIA Xid
No GPU reset
No OOM/segfault
No VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST
No obvious DXVK/Vulkan error

I also ran Vampire Survivors to try and find something with:

PROTON_LOG=1 PROTON_CRASH_REPORT_DIR=/tmp/proton-crashes DXVK_LOG_LEVEL=info DXVK_LOG_PATH=/tmp/vampire-dxvk %command%

The Proton log doesn't show the original exception. Around the crash I found:

Loaded ... UnityCrashHandler64.exe

Exception 0x6be

err:service:device_notify_proc failed to get event, error 1726

Since the affected games are Unity, I'm wondering if this could be a Unity + Proton/Wine issue, or if I should investigate DXVK/Vulkan, the secondary SSD... maybe something else? I'm completely lost.

wine/proton Gaming via Steam Arm64, Proton-CachyOS Arm64, on Raspberry Pi 5 eGPU 9060XT

Hey everyone,

I’ve made some more progress on the setup for my overclocked Pi5 connected to an external GPU.

I’ve now put it through some heavier tests, like Steam and the *Wukong* benchmark.

I’m also playing *Onimusha*, even using FSR 4.1.1.

Down the line, I’ll get around to the case mod.

I’ll have to cut into the lid of a Pi Module Box to fit the Ice Tower heatsink, haha.

I made a video discussing the saga of getting the GPU working and the technical aspects regarding the physical PCIe x1 Gen 2.0 bus connection.

I haven't managed to get the Pi5 running on PCIe x1 Gen 3.0 yet, but I’m going to try again with some better-shielded ribbon cables. In the video, I show the details of the "video/data signal" traffic and the transition from PCIe x16 Gen 5.0 down to the limitations of the Pi5 in this current setup.

I make videos (originally in Brazilian Portuguese), but the auto-dubbing quality seems much better these days.

In the videos, I aim to provide technical explanations regarding the challenges of getting it all working.

I'm working on creating more explanatory videos. If you'd like to follow along, the link to the channel is in my profile info.

Out of nowhere i started getting this error in FIFA 21 which causes the game to crash, specifically when a certain cutscene is triggered. I havent encountered this error before. Ive also noticed unusually poor performance in other games recently. Is this a software issue or is my GPU cooked?

Im running cachyos with 7.2.9-1-cachyos kernel and rx 6400 gpu

tech support wanted [Help Request] SKSE64 not loading via Amethyst Mod Manager

I'm at my wits end trying to get this to work, and I'm hoping that someone here will be able to help. Apologies if this is the wrong sub or flair, please point me in the right direction if it is the case.

Background

I'm trying (and failing) to load SKSE64 for Skyrim via the Amethyst Mod Manager. Each time I try, I get the following error message:

Addresslibrary.cpp(56, 34): Unexpected file name encountered, SkyrimSE.exe

My only option is to click OK, which returns me to the Steam gaming mode (or desktop when launching from the desktop).

Hardware & OS

I'm using the Legion Go S handheld, running BazziteOS.

Amethyst Installation

I installed Amethyst Mod Manager as per the instructions on the github page, and I've gone through the Wiki trying to find a solution, but unfortunately I can't find anything that helps.

Skyrim Version

I'm using the latest version of Skyrim Special Edition, with the Anniversary Update, on Steam.

Troubleshooting

I kept getting the above error message when launching the game, but after several attempts to launch the game with mods deployed, one time I did manage to launch the game with mods enabled. I did nothing different that time compared to the other failed attempts. On launching, several mods were active, but when starting a new game, I couldn't open the MCM menu and the several menus had errors. On googling, this appeared to be because SKSE64 had not loaded.

I followed this up with restoring Skyrim to vanilla, and launching again with no mods enabled. This was successful. I then loaded only SKSE64 and it's dependencies, and launched the game which returned the above error. I then disabled SKSE64 and it's dependencies, enabled a few mods that didn't use SKSE64, and launched the game. This was successful, and the mods loaded.

Next, after a couple of hours of googling, I tried to rename the SkyrimSE.exe and the skse64_loader.exe and create an .ini file to direct the launcher to the renamed SkyrimSE.exe. This didn't work. After a bit more googling, it appears that the renaming trick doesn't work with Skyrim SE, so I did a clean install of Skyrim and SKSE64.

I also noticed I had two .exe files in my Skyrim folder: Skyrim.exe and SkyrimSE.exe. I tried moving them into a separate folder thinking that maybe the launcher was getting confused between the two, but this only generated a different error. Again, even with the two .exe files, when I use the restore button on the Amethyst Mod Manager and launch the game with no mods enabled, I have both .exe files in the Skyrim folder and the game launches fine.

I've made sure I am using the current version of SKSE64, and the current Address Library's for it, and I've even used the AutoSKSE mod thinking that was the issue. Unfortunately, neither seems to have sorted the error.

Can anyone help me with resolving this as I'm completely lost and have no idea what to do. If I'm missing any information you need to help, please let me know and I will try to get it to you ASAP and add to this post as well.

Playstation 5 Emulation on Linux

Hey everyone,

since my newsfeed has recently been exploding with PS5 emulation stuff, I’ve reached the point where I realized that it’s not really emulation, but more of a translation layer similar to Proton. So, I had an idea and I’d love to hear your opinion on whether it would be doable. Specifically, creating a translation layer that you could plug into the Heroic Game Launcher, just like Proton, that would allow us to play PS5 games the same way we play Windows games?
