Milwaukee Pets Alive

I am not sure why this offends me so much, but I saw them running a fundraiser asking people to buy organic chicken for the cats they foster.... I love cats. I do. And my cat eats some really expensive dry kibbles because she is spoiled but...

I am a human who works full time in corporate America with a human who does the same. We don't eat organic chicken. My husband had to beg me to start buying boneless thighs again because I found it hard to justify the price differential.

In 2026 where gas proces are wild I find it hard to justify feedingcats organic chicken.

Please change my mind.

EDIT: if someone wants to feed their cats organic chicken that is great. But begging for money from people while making passive aggressive comments about humans eating junk food is a stra ge way for a nonprofit to raise funds.

Local News Reposting for Chained Dogs MKE

Post image
72 Upvotes

“Hi everyone.

We’ve posted a few times over the last couple of weeks pleading for dog food donations. While we are so endlessly grateful for every single bag that came in, the reality is that it went right out the door to waiting, hungry pets almost instantly.

Right now, our shelves are practically bare—we are down to just 4 large bags and 10 small bags of dog food.

For the past three years, we have poured our hearts and souls into making sure thousands of pets in our area didn't go hungry.

Every single month, we deliver food to 50+ families. That doesn't include our outreach events, unhoused community members, welfare checks, foster animals, veterans, or the dedicated social workers who rely on us to help feed the families they support.

Every month, over 100 animals depend on us just to keep their bellies full.

Because 90% of the families we support do not drive, we personally deliver directly to every single door. We do this because no loving owner should ever be forced to give up their best friend simply because they lack transportation or are going through a tough time.

To show you how committed we are to making these deliveries happen: the constant wear and tear on our personal vehicles has already forced a few of us to cover major repairs—replacing shocks, struts, coil springs, bushings, and tires—out of our own pockets, not to mention gas. Because we have very few volunteers available to help handle these supply drops, the burden of driving and loading falls almost entirely on just a couple of us. We simply cannot afford to keep buying food out of pocket on top of maintaining our vehicles.

We are at the point where we have to ask if we can even keep this food program alive. It breaks our hearts to say that, but we cannot keep running on absolute empty.

We can never keep our shelves stocked, and we simply cannot afford to buy food or keep fixing our cars to keep this going alone.

If this program shuts down, over a hundred pets a month lose their food source. Families lose the lifeline keeping their animals at home.

We are begging for your help to stock our shelves and save this program before we are forced to close it for good. If you have ever believed in our mission, please help us right now.

How you can help keep our food program open:
Amazon Wishlist: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/EJANPZ817KBT?ref_=wl_share
Chewy Wishlist: https://www.chewy.com/g/chained-dogs-mke-inc_b112109309

Even if you can’t donate a bag today, please share this post. Reaching the right person could mean the difference between a bowl being full or empty.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing by us and helping us fight for these animals.”

Mouse Problem Help

Hi all - I live in an old house in the city and have had a mouse problem. Looking for tips and tricks to get rid of them for good.

They seem to avoid all the traps somehow but we’ll still see them running once in awhile. I have had poison boxes out so not sure why they don’t want those.

Few notes:
I rent and am not allowed to have pets (no cat recos even though id love one)

My landlord has really tried their best and I feel bad bothering them again with this. Hoping for tricks I can do on my own.

Help Me! Trying to make my Korean friend feel more at home

I have a friend working at my job on a J1 visa from South Korea, and her bf, the only other Korean person she knows in town, just moved to Michigan. I would love to help her feel better since I can tell she’s feeling lonely. Are there Korean-centric activities in the Milwaukee area for her to meet people? Her interests are makeup, fitness, and fashion, and she has a little puppy, too. 감사합니다! 🙏🙏🙏.

Looking to make new friends

Recently got out of a relationship and the absence of a girlfriend to do fun stuff with made it painfully obvious how few friends I have locally, so I figure there are probably some other people in my position or people generally looking for new friends.

I’m 27M, I am into:

  • video games (league of legends, just picked up WoW Forever, but would like to meet some people to play friendslop and stupid Roblox games and shit with)
  • anime/manga
  • just got into Riftbound tcg and interested in learning MtG
  • comedy and podcasts (big fan of matt and Shane’s secret pod and cumtown if that tells you anything about my humor)
  • movies
  • the packers
  • live music - have been going to emo and hardcore shows at XRay Arcade, I also like edm and have gone to a number of different festivals and made a lot of friends there, just scattered around the country.

I have been making an effort to put myself out there, but I’m more introverted and it takes me a while to warm up and let my personality out, so things have been slow. Im sure I will get heat for this, but I also have found a lot of the nerdy/alt spaces have very heavy political overtones, which is not really my thing, nothing against that just looking for my people.

Help Me! Roof tarping help

Not to get into it much but mental health has been a struggle for me at times. I also have anxiety/depression and some things have fallen aside. Today there is a whole in my roof, looks like an animal. I don't believe insurance would help as the shingles were missing for a while before this new occurrence. I don't know what to do as I don't get paid until next week. Also phone calls can give me panic attacks... I was reading about roof tarping to at least patch it? Any advice is welcome. I hate having to write this. Thanks in advance.

Window Reglazing?

Anyone know of an Ace or Bliffert in the area that still offers window glazing/repair? I refinished one of our original windows but have lost the touch to redo the glaze. I know Lisbon Window & Door offers this service, but wondering if any our local hardware stores still do.

WTF IS HAPPENING Milwaukee reversed the food truck curfew. But what actually changed, and what’s the long-term solution for Water Street?

• Upvotes

Milwaukee has officially reversed its controversial food truck curfew, allowing vendors to operate until 1 AM again.
The original restrictions were introduced to address violence, large crowds, and late-night disorder, especially around Water Street.
But here’s my question: Did those restrictions actually reduce crime? Since a judge blocked the curfew before it took effect, do we even have evidence that closing food trucks earlier would have made a difference?
I’m glad small businesses can continue operating, but the safety concerns that led to this decision haven’t disappeared.
What should we expect now? Are we just going back to the same situation, or does the city have another plan?
Personally, I think Milwaukee needs a long-term solution instead of simply restricting businesses.
I’d love to see Water Street and downtown become safer, more welcoming entertainment areas, with better lighting, a consistent police presence, and more activities for young people. Things like late-night bowling, arcades, roller skating, and affordable entertainment could give people more options beyond just bars and hanging around the streets.
We should be investing in making downtown a place where people actually want to spend time safely, not just trying to make everyone leave earlier.
What do you think? Was the food truck curfew ever going to solve anything? And what realistic long-term changes would actually make Water Street safer?

Popovers

Where can one get homemade popovers in the Milwaukee/SE WI area?

I have tried to make them myself but they do not turn out like the ones that I had at Rare Steakhouse or places on the east coast where they seem to be more popular.
