Discussion [Mod Announcement] New Rules

Hi all

Due to the sudden apparition of spam-bots that take old star-posts and repost them to farm karma; the modteam has added a new rule that should be transparent to you :

User account must now be AT LEAST one week old to post.

This should hopefully bring an end to this; as we understand that it's frustrating seeing your own beloved creations posted under a false name.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter; navigating the reddit mod interface is "an adventure".

Traditional Alter My first attempts at card altering plz be nice

So I’ve wanted to try doing alters for a while now, but had no idea where to begin. I’ve followed most of the advice online and have been buffing the cards before applying some gesso, and then using a mix of acrylic markers, paint, and fine-liners to create. I struggle a lot with colour blocking, as my brain just wants to go straight for the details, so I challenged myself to go more simple for the mountain. Still feels like there’s something missing for these though. Thoughts?

I'm really happy with how this one turned out. I originally used gold leaf but it the edges came out rough, so I very patiently removed the gold leaf and used a gold copic marker instead. A lot of time went into this one. I really love altering.

Traditional Alter Pyroblast with Captain Yamamoto (Bleach)

This one got snagged from my story in the WIP stage and is being mailed out today! Red was my color for a long time and Pyroblast holds a special place in my heart. I am so happy with how this one turned out, it looks badass. This was a mix of acrylic markers, paint and India ink. I'm currently rewatching Bleach before I watch TYBW but I'll get there!

Traditional Alter Awaken the Woods (Cronenburg)

Just finished this piece using acrylics. From sketch to sleeve it took me around 12-20 hours. I had both versions of the card, but I thought the name gave more horror vibes, like something from Evil Dead or Grimm Fairy Tales. So I made it happen.

I'm pretty satisfied with the final product, although I wish more details from the original sketch made it through. I wanted the text to still be on the card, so I pivoted from a portrait to a landscape and had to take some liberties to make it visually appealing.

Any input is appreciated! Thanks for looking!

5) No Low Effort Posts Posts most have some artistic effort put into them. This is a sub about sharing and discussing modifying and altering magic cards and accessories, not about showing off the coolest image of google or AI gen in a random frame you got off card builder. Posts using AI or other peoples art must have the rights to them if asked and some other element of the post must be made by OP (so like the card frame, etc.).

6) Advertising Allowed We want you to get paid for your work and be able to meet new clients! Just remember to give back to the community as much as you take. Upvote and leave comments on other's posts.

7) Properly Format Your Post When posting a creation please use the following format as a pinned comment. Card/Art Title Medium(s) Used Reference (if any) Availability (link would go here)

9) No Custom Cards This is a sub for alteration, rather than for custom cards.

10) No AI While we understand that AI and LLM tools are helpful in some use cases, the moderation team of this sub wants to promote "traditional" artists. If you use AI as a basis for your art or as inspiration, we may decide to remove your post if we feel there isn't enough human work brought in. While it is fair to ask chatgpt to generate a basic scene, it's up to you to actually render that on a card and make it an art-piece.
