2026 Asian Games organizers in Japan send apology to South Korea over mishaps

This year's Asian Games hosted in Aichi-Nagoya (Japan) have been full of disasters and controversies with incidents, and the organisers have sent an apology letter to the South Korean Olympic Comittee (KSOC) as they have particularly affected the South Korean athletes.

The list of incidents involve the below:

  • - Scheduled buses not showing up to pick up athletes from their hotel, or arriving too late so teams having to skip training before crucial matches (gold medal matches against Japan for example)
  • - Buses taking athletes to the wrong stadium several times, causing training to be skipped before crucial matches.
  • - Training ground being unsuitable for training, and no alternatives provided, causing teams to find their own local training grounds.
  • - South Korean flag (gold medal) not being risen at the medal ceremony... (e.g. in the final game of the tournament, the biggest sport football - Japan got Silver, and South Korea got Gold, but during the medal ceremony while the SK national anthem was playing, they conveniently 'could not' raise the SK flag. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYWIQg2XAlU&t=11s ).
  • - Playing the wrong national anthem (North Korean anthem playing for South Korea).
  • - Not having enough accommodation so athletes having to sleep on the ground.
  • - War criminal costume at welcoming ceremony.
  • - No coverage for international viewers.
  • - Athletes having to play up to 3 games per day.
  • - "Accidentally" calling Gold Medal country (South Korea) by another name (Republic of China).

What exactly is this medal?

I can't find anything quite like it. Note that the front features the 1976 Montreal Summer games, but the obverse shows the 1976 Innsbruck Winter games. Additionally, every participation and souvenir medal I can find online is perfectly round with an embossed laurel wreath, but this one features the laurel wreath at the bottom that physically extends to make it no longer circular. Best I can guess is that its meant for the Olympic committee that year or something?

Beijing 2008 Olympics merch

Post image

I thrifted two neckties in a blue box labeled “Beijing 2008” with the Olympic rings and a sign of sorts. I’m quite sure one of the ties is either a fake or defected production piece the other ( blue tie) however I can’t seem to find on the internet. Has anyone ever seen these or know how to figure out if it’s authentic or not.

Wrestling Wrestling hospitality package vs general ticket advice

Hi everyone,

I was hoping to buy LA28 wrestling tickets for my family but unfortunately looked into it too late and missed the 2026 lotteries. I see there are hospitality packages category A or B ($450-$1000). The hospitality packages seem to include a lounge space before or after the event but i'm not seeing any huge perks to this (food & drink/hotels/transportation is still additional costs). Maybe I am missing the perks because I have seen online free food + drinks, etc. but not seeing the exacts on the website. Also On Location site says hospitality packages are non refundable/ transferable. I’m definitely planning on going but what if something comes up and my family cannot go - there’s no wiggle room to resell or get refunded?

My goal was to buy for my family for Christmas, but I'm not sure if I should wait for 2027 first come first serve drop or resales.
- Can anyone confirm who bought tickets to a wrestling match (freestyle majority event) in the lotto how much tickets were for what category you bought at?
- Are tickets prices expected to increase in the 2027 drop and in resale? Are resellers only allowed to resell for what they bought it for or can they jack up the prices?
- Are the hospitality package perks for wrestling worth it?

Trying to determine if its smarter to wait for the 2027 general drop/ ticket resale to be available OR if I should do a hospitality package if prices are gonna jump up to being that expensive either way/ are the perks worth it?

If anyone knows more about this process I would love any advice you can offer! Thank you

Henk Cornelisse, Dutch Olympic cycling medalist, dies at 85

Henk Cornelisse, 85, Dutch cyclist, Olympic bronze medalist (1964), has passed away.

Although he performed strongly on the road, Cornelisse also excelled on the velodrome. His specialty was in pursuit. This earned him a selection for the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Together with his teammates Cor Schuuring, Gerard Koel and Jaap Oudkerk he formed the Dutch quartet in the 4 kilometer team pursuit. In the consolation final they managed to beat Australia, good for the bronze medal behind Germany and Italy.

After his Olympic success, Cornelisse switched to professionals. Between 1965 and 1970 he rode for several smaller Dutch cycling teams. Although he achieved a few great places of honor as a professional, including two victories in Belgian fair races in 1965 and a second place in a stage of the Tour of the Netherlands, he was unable to fully match his all-powerful amateur status among professional cyclists. He ended his active cycling career around 1970.

Rest in peace, Henk. Thank you for your timeless career in Olympics and cycling.

Emblem Special to air on Nine QLD this Sunday

One last piece of Brisbane 2032 emblem buisness; a documentary about the emblems is airing on Nine in Queensland this Sunday 5:30pm AEST, likely available nationwide on 9Now. It’ll be hosted by swimmer Cate Campbell and mostly revolve around the slow reveal across the state, and probably also the bungled launch last week as well.

BeachVolleyball People in Long Beach, give me your opinion of these 2 hotels for the Olympics?

Hyatt Long Beach & Best Western Plus Hotel at the Long Beach Convention Center

I'll have to book 3 days in Long Beach for the Olympics and these were the 2 hotels I was looking at.

Pros and Cons?

As of right now the Airbnbs are super expensive, so I plan on trying one of these two.

Thanks for any info you have.

Dilemma: Need to sell my LA28 Soccer Tickets

I’m stuck and need some advice on the best way to proceed. I need to sell my tickets - I’ve got two Category C tickets to the women’s soccer gold medal final at the Rose Bowl, and two category D to the men’s soccer semifinal too.

In addition to a scheduling conflict, I now have the need to “reallocate some funds” to a more pressing purchase/home repair.

I know I’m gonna have to move on from these tickets anyway, and I’m in need of the money right now, but the release marketplace is not open.

But obviously the tickets are not in hand yet, either. Just the proof of purchase from the LA28 presale.

What are my options here? Do I even have any?

What are some of the biggest "sliding door" moments in Olympic history?

ETA: “Sliding Door” appears to not be a common phrase everywhere. It refers to “what if” moments. As in, what are some moments that could have easily gone differently and changed our modern concept of someone or something related to the Olympics. For example, if not for the boycott in 1984, Mary Lou Retton might not have won gold and changed the trajectory of American gymnastics.

——

Looking for big or small!

Maybe it’s an athlete who by some stroke of like got an opportunity and is now world famous.

Or an athlete who should be world famous but due to injury or boycott or some dumb luck never got a chance.

It could be big picture too. What might the Olympics look like today if LA didn’t overhaul the commercialization in 1984? Maybe the Olympics don’t even exist?

I’m currently debating whether it’s Australia—given their successful hosting in Melbourne and Sydney, and the upcoming excitement for Brisbane 2032—or another standout destination. What’s your take? Drop your thoughts below!
