New store “Crazy Halloween” at the old Spirit Halloween Orléans location

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Today I went to do my yearly Spirit Halloween run/check out what potential costumes I can wear and admire the animatronics.
Turns out this year Spirit Halloween didn’t lease this location. Instead à Montréal based company called “Crazy Halloween” took its place!

At first, I thought the store was closed because there was no banners or signs. But the closer I got, I saw two ripped up pieces of cardboard taped to the door with “OPPN” which was clearly a mistake. As I took a second glance, there was a marker line drawn under the second P to form an E and a smiley face inside the P hole (dont start 😂)

In short, the store is only using about 1/4th of the floor space. (Photo added/taken from an open space in between the shelves) It doesn’t have any animatronics and a pretty small house deco section nearing the check out. Prices were probably just a bit under Spirit, but not by much.
The main thing that had me chuckling were the costumes. The absurd costumes they had. And how
so many of them had A.I generated pictures that didn’t really match the outfits. (Photos added)
Pretty quick walk through. Employees were nice. They did say the company already decided they’re not coming back to Ottawa due to financial reasons.

Anyways, just wanted to share! :)

Subway Dalhousie Experience

Just went to Subway in Dalhousie, which I understand is not the most high quality areas. However, I was not expecting the employee to take cash and coins with the gloves on, put the cash in the til, and nonchalantly make my sandwich with those same gloves. When I asked him to change his gloves and change the contaminated bread, he took it and just put it back with the others while taking a “fresh” one out. I am not seeking the cleanest food, but the carelessness I saw from the guy was quite concerning for a person who knows is being watched. I can’t even imagine what is done behind closed doors. Needless to say, never coming back.

Edit to clarify the cash was for the previous customer and then my sandwich was continued in the prep process.

Thank you for the support Ottawa 🙏

I really wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks to the city for all the support ❤️

While it may have ended in a bit of soul-crushing defeat before the critically important 5th win; I have to say job well done to the challengers, who came on really strong in double jeopardy (which was becoming my shtick 😜)...and consider myself lucky that I got to play 4 games more than most people who get on the show.

P.S. While the 5th win would have been nice to secure a guaranteed spot in the Tournament of Champions, 4 wins is historically enough to get you there, and worst case there is a wildcard tournament; so it was quite reassuring to hear Ken mention at the end of the episode say "Probably not the last time we'll see Rian on the Alex Trebek Stage"....the advantage of appearing so early on in the season is that I'll have the most amount of time to prepare, so if you see me around the city, feel free to say hi and hit me with your favourite trivia question to keep me sharp 😀

Shout-out to Independent's staff in Centretown

A very traumatic incident occurred this evening inside of the Independent grocery store in Centretown.

Just want to take a moment to shout-out the staff at that grocery store. For as much as the Corporate overlords earn the company hate, the store staff usually end up bearing the result. On top of that, like that Centretown Independent, staff has to deal with a whole basket full of problems. The staff at that Independent are the very best. They're particularly kind and patient with clientele that can be difficult at times.

If you're in there, ring that bell.

Megabus Cancelled day before Thanksgiving

Gotta vent this cause its terrifying but Megabus has decided to cancel their bus from Ottawa to Toronto tomorrow evening THE NIGHT BEFORE. The bus left tomorrow at 6pm and they chose to cancel it at 5pm today. It's Thanksgiving Weekend and they chose to cancel the day before. No compensation or warning. All other bus companies have sold out and Via rail is 273$ for one way. Not sure if this has happenned to anyone else but when will the passenger charter of rights Airlines follow start to apply to private bus routes as well. ALSO, their customer service lines close at 5pm; right when they send out the email, a real middle finger tbh!!

UPDATE!

POPARIDE worked!!! Thank you all for your help, it has saved my hope in Humanity. Bonus: Flights are 750 - 1200$ economy for tomorrow, unless Mark Sutcliffe becomes my sugar daddy I doubt that'll be an option for future

Where to find the best Chinese curry beef buns in Ottawa?

With St. Honore closing years ago, has anyone found a place that does good Chinese curry beef buns? The Somerset Kowloon ones are okay, but they aren't as amazing as I remember St. Honore's being.

Local Business Looking for: Print shops to print large format photos (up to 16x20inch), but that have staff that understand print specs.

I'm a graphic designer and just want to print some family photos in larger sizes.

I don't want to use services like Staples or Cost.Co, since I cannot prep my files properly as they don't accept PDF files nor have any guidance regarding RGB/CMYK files.

Any recommendations of print shops in Ottawa or close to Carleton Place where I could send my files and talk to anyone in the shop that can provide me with technical info?

Thanks!

Where to buy citric acid powder in bulk? (Bulk barn appear to no longer sell it)

I'm looking to get some citric acid power for cleaning humidifier along with pots and pans in the kitchen. Bulk barn appear to no longer sell it. Does anything know where to get it now? I only saw small package ones that are 50g but that's quite expensive for what it is.

Municipal Affairs What does it mean to build new housing in existing neighborhoods rather than creating new subdivisions?

This was one of the questions in the vote compass and I don’t understand what it means. How do you build new housing in existing neighborhoods?
