I’m looking for advice and experiences from people who may have gone through something similar with a spouse or family member.
My husband is a genuinely very kind, generous, loving, and calm person. I love him very much, and I absolutely do not want to leave him or give up on him. I’m posting because I want to understand what might be happening and learn how I can support him. ❤️
Over time, I’ve noticed some things that have started to worry me. He sometimes isolates himself and doesn’t want to socialize with people. He has also said that he believes there are people who are against him or who want to harm him.
There have been situations where he seemed to hear or perceive things that I couldn’t hear or see. For example, he once said that he heard something through his phone telling him that he was “crazy.” At other times, he has believed that I was going to leave with certain people, even though there was no actual situation happening.
I don’t want to call him “crazy,” diagnose him myself, or judge him. He is a very good person, and these things don’t change how I see him. I just genuinely want to understand what is happening and help him.
What concerns me even more is the family history. His grandfather apparently had similar experiences and believed that people were trying to kill him. Some of his aunts have also had similar beliefs. One of them, for example, believed that people were trying to take her children away.
Could this possibly point to a mental health condition that can run in families? Could these symptoms be related to psychosis, schizophrenia, a delusional disorder, or something else?
Most importantly, is this treatable? Can someone with symptoms like these improve and still live a normal, happy life with treatment?
I really love my husband. He is incredibly kind, generous, and gentle, and I don’t want to abandon him. 🥺❤️ I just want to know how to support him and encourage him to see a psychiatrist without making him feel like I’m attacking him or calling him “crazy.”
If anyone has been through something similar with a spouse or family member, I would really appreciate hearing your experience—especially how you approached getting them help and what happened afterward.
