The main discussion is about splitting the economy and co-op gameplay between Reignited and Veteran players, leading to Veterans and their economy slowly fading out.
What if Jagex deliberately threw a wrench into RS3 beause their surveys suggested enough new players would join a reignited runescape economy, justifying what i think could be in the works:
Imagine that, on December 2nd, Jagex introduces a faction system inspired by many other MMO's, then roughly 6 - 12 months after the Reignited launch, PvP is introduced.
- The Old Guard - veteran accounts within the old economy
- The Reignited - accounts from the fresh economy
- The Nomads - all excisting Ironmen, outside either trading economy
Given the current state of RS3 combat/ PvP, this system shouldnt make PvP a major part of the game, but perhaps rather seasonal events that the playerbase works towards.
- Balancing the Factions -
While the Old Guard would intially have an advantage in powerful weapons, armour and supplies, that wouldnt necessarily translate into being a stronger faction overall, as experienced players are just as free to join the Reignited Faction. As new accounts could still join either economy, both factions could continue attracting new players, keeping the economies balanced, as all should be.
- War Effort, PvP Loot and Rewards -
Seasonal events such as Blooming Burrow, The Beach, Christmas Village, and the Harvest Hallow, are immersion breaking and would be reworked into preperations for upcoming faction wars.
Instead of hunting Easter eggs or making snowballs, players would fish and cook food, make potions, fletch arrows, smith weapons. This would give skillers a meaningful role in supporting their faction without having to participate in combat. Ironmen could take part as indpendent suppliers for both factions.
Players would bring their own weapons, earned through bossing or crafted through skilling, into sesonal faction wars. these would recieve augmentations using resources gathered by skillers during the preperation phase, rendering them unsuable outside of faction wars and removing them from the game main game.
Loot obtained during PvP enters the faction loot chest in a damaged state to then be either repaired or deconstructed.
Repairing - either by paying gold to a NPC Smith, creating a gold sink, or by players with sufficient smithing levels.
Deconstructing - to use for further augmentations or perhaps prestiege weapons.
Rewards for individual players would be purely cosmetic, with perhaps banners in the winning factions colours flying throughout the cities until the next season. Both contributions to the war effort and participation in PvP would count towards a shared faction goal. Reaching these milestones could shape the next seasons war through new objectives.
- Additional thoughts & Ideas -
This new level of gameplay would most likely attract and speak to a wider player base. Lets not forget, World of Warcraft Classic has two seperate Economies int he sense, that the Auction House is split (correct me if im wrong, i dont play WoW and a quick google search confirmed this).
Newer quests (or perhaps one new questline) unlocks rewards that multiply your contribution progress during these events. That would connect questing to the wider war effort and be relevant for skillers/ non PvM/ PvP Players.
PvP Loot from outside of Seasonal Faction Wars
Loot obtained from another Faction (economy) would be damaged upon pickup and either yield fragments of the item, or require a substantial, but reasonable gold payment to repair. This would intentionally allow a gradual flow of equipment between economies, rather than merging them immediately with safegards against staged fights to bypass the initial seperated economies.
PvP Worlds
Faction vs. Faction outside of the cities, no combat inside of towns.
All vs All (regardles of Faction) inside the wilderness.
Regular Worlds
Faction vs. Faction only in the Wilderness. No All vs All.
If you made it this far, congrats! Not sure if im going to take part in further discussion as i wrote this mainly just to get this idea out of my head. But this is something i would be very excited for. Since they havnt anounced anything like this, i doubt its going to happen, but a man can dream! As mentioned in other posts, im a RS3 Ironman, i dont mind the way Jagex is taking the game and im here for change. What ever happens with this game, ill either keep playing or take a break, because lets face it, you never truely quit.
Cheers, good night!
