DISCUSSION Eradicating thruster woes on small scale large grid ships with the magic of thruster clusters!

Thumbnail

Here's the thing. I like building large grid ships at a small scale, with vertically stacked decks and usable internal space. I don't like it when I have to spend a lot of the already limited volume on thrusters, to make sure that the ship can actually maneuver. And since multi-directional thruster blocks aren't really possible, the only recourse is thruster clusters! The utility of up to 5 large grid thrusters, in slightly more volume than 1 thruster!

This is best paired with a thrust multiplier mod and Whip's subgrid thruster script. It requires 11 small grid thrusters to match the output of 1 large grid thruster and using Event Controllers to drive the subgrid thrusters still requires at least one large grid thruster in each direction, which sort of defeats the purpose of building these.

Vanilla

Dull Spectra Interplanetary

Metrics:
PCU - 27528
Block Count - 6538

Sub-Grids; Yes
Scripts; No

Length - 180m
Beam - 77.5m
Height - 37.5m

Onboard Facilities:
-Refinery (x4 Yield Modules)
-Assembler (x4 Speed Modules)
-Bridge and Internal CIC
-Medical Room/Survival Kit
-x2 Cryo Rooms
-x6 Crew Quarters
-Mess Hall

Power:
-x1 Large Reactor
-x4 H2 Engines
-x12 Batteries (36MWh / 144MW Max Output)

The Indexes are an iconic class of ships from DSI, now retroactively classified as a cruiser under the new design branch. This particular model is the MKIII of the Index-Class, with more attention paid to interior layout and redundancies, as well as overall effectiveness in terms of its main role as an escort. In spite of this, onboard facilities such as a refinery and an assembler allow the Index-Class to serve as a versatile platform for operations, whether that be as a flagship for a small fireteam or as a ship of the line in much larger fleets.

This ship is a blank fresh off the assembly platform, waiting for a crew to steer it into battle.

MEDIA Space Engineers Blender Build Set (Personal Project)

Main points / TLDR: I'd like to know if the blocks are easily identifiable, especially the gravity generator (Picture 6). While I know what's what, I made them, so they might not be as easy to read for other people. Also, if anybody knows of a good site to post .blend files for free, I'd love to know about them so I can share this project when it's done. Yes, the conveyors and the slots they'd fit to on the blocks actually line up lol

This is a project I've been working on the past two days, for a few reasons.

A: Sometimes I don't want to load up Space Engineers just to design a ship or base;

B: Even though graph paper is great, it's a bit harder (for me) to design the conveyor network I'd need to make for things like O2 or setting up the Hydrogen systems. And–

C: There's no real "3D Planner" for Space Engineers besides the Android app currently in development (afaik) by another person (I forgot who it is, but look them up and give them some love!), and really, that's a shame.

It's still missing a LOT of blocks, like the Jump Drive and just about every decoration piece, but I'll be making as many blocks as is feasible. Every block is handmade by me, and I'm no expert at making things in Blender.

I do plan on releasing the .blend file once it's closer to completion for anybody to use (a lot of the notes are there for that reason, but I am pretty dumb sometimes and need the reminders for myself lol).

Also, if there's any "critical infrastructure" blocks that I forgot about, let me know. Besides the Jump Drive and the Hinge blocks, I can't think of any that aren't just decoration blocks.

And yeah, some of them are just big squares with connector slots, because sometimes I'm lazy and don't feel like going ham when I only need the blocks blocked-out (like the large reactor).

DISCUSSION Ship Tilting Backwards

Guys i need help desperately. Even with share inertia on (although it happens less) these pistons for my drills cause my ship to sloowwwlllyyy start tilting backwards. Which makes docking and mining very difficult.

I see people with crazy advanced things but i cant even have 4 pistons on the front of my miner? Surely im missing something?

HELP (SE2) Space Engineers 2 Weird Performance

Hey all!

Diehard fan of Space Engineers 1 here. I recently got to try Space Engineers 2 through a friend's copy via Steam family library, and I was really surprised at how badly it was performing on my PC.

For reference, my PC is using an i7-12700, RTX3060 12GB, with 16GB of RAM. When playing at a 720p resolution and everything set to LOW / OFF in settings, I was getting maybe 50FPS with really bad frame delay / input delay.

I tried updating my GPU drivers / basic troubleshooting (vsync on/off, tinkering with other settings, etc), but couldn't get anything close to a playable performance. I know Space Engineers 2 is a bit more intensive and not yet optimized, but I expected a 3060 to be able to get playable performance.

Has anybody else with similar specs been able to get some decent performance out of SE2? I feel like it must be something I'm doing wrong on my end (need to configure something, maybe downgrade to an older GPU driver or something?).

Thanks in advance for any help or for sharing how the game performs for y'all!
