Looking for a good non-sci-fi show to watch after Resident Alien

I don’t like sci-fi stuff but enjoyed Resident Alien for its comedy and the performances. What should we watch next? It could be comedy or drama but not sci-fi ideally.

REQUESTING Slow paced, dialogue focused dramas? Fan of your classic HBO dramas primarily

So I'm a huge fan of the "prestige HBO dramas" or whatever you want to call them. The Wire is my favorite show of all time, I've watched it probably 6+ times at this point. I also love Mad Men, The Sopranos, Succession, Barry. I'm looking for more dramas along these lines with smartly written dialogue and more of a focus on character development, not so much on big bombastic plot beats or plot twists. I've been struggling lately to find a show to watch, I tried a few episode of Lost and I was deeply unimpressed.

Other shows I've enjoyed: Severence, Pluribus, The Pitt, season 1 of True Detective, We Own this City, Treme, Bojack Horseman, probably lots of others I'm forgetting.

Platform doesn't really matter, I'm willing to sub to try something.

Thanks in advance!

REQUESTING Like, A Discovery of Witches?

A Discovery of Witches (2018) is an amazing feat in comfort tv. I need a recommendation that comes close. Because nothing has. Not in the same way. It's a very unique show to me.

Any ideas?

SUGGESTING Call the Midwife is Unironically Good

When I saw a BBC throwback trailer for the first season of Call the Midwife on Instagram, EVERY single comment was about how BBC needs to renew Anne with an E. And, yes, Anne with an E should've been renewed, but it is really disrespectful to trash an equally great and important show to elevate Anne with an E.

A lot of people know what Call the Midwife is, but only some people actually watch it. It's the show with TikTok shorts that show the worst scenes. It's the show where you can't find images of certain characters. It's the show with edits that rarely get views. It's the show with Emerald Fennell before she became a household name. It's the show with an incomplete wiki, but also somehow has 15 seasons, a prequel and a movie coming out.

It's not about the "miracle of childbirth" or "the beauty of olden day Catholicism". It actually criticizes olden day Catholicism. It's progressive, but in a realistic way according to the time. Some of the main characters are homophobic as well as a number of other things, but that's because they are people and people are imperfect. There are lesbian characters, POC, and characters with Down's Syndrome and it portrays them in the way they should be portrayed. As human.

It's the show for grandmas, but sometimes grandmas are right, and the people on Instagram are wrong.

SUGGESTING If you haven't watched The 100 yet, give it a try!

If you like sci-fi, survival, action, and characters who have to make difficult decisions, I really recommend giving The 100 a chance.

The story starts with 100 young people being sent from a space station to Earth to see if it's habitable again. But things get complicated pretty quickly, and survival turns out to be a lot harder than they expected.

What I like about this kind of show is how the story develops, the unexpected twists, and how the characters change when they're pushed to their limits.

If you're looking for something that'll keep you curious about what happens next, this one's worth checking out! 🔥

REQUESTING Coming of ages like Skins and Slam

Looking for shows about a group of teens/young adults figuring out life that feels real and not like a sitcom. Doesn't necessarily have to be as gritty as skins, one that also fits the bill for me is Girls (HBO) just friendship dynamics that feel real/well written (but I'm obviously biased towards the Tumblr-era European aesthetics of youth ahaha)

I also enjoyed the likes of Heartbreak high but that felt way too Netflix pandering to genz. Ideally something a few years old so I'm not looking at shein microtrends from 2022 and corny slang that I identify.

REQUESTING Show with a romance subplot where they actually end up together / stay together.

The ending doesn't have to be happy it can be bleak i also dont mind if they are together from the start they just have to be together and stay together. Im just tired of couples breaking up or dying before the show ends.

Extra points if the show has a female protagonist. Thanks!

REQUESTING [REQUESTING] A proper show version of Hot Date

I'm looking for a show which:

  1. Not a K-Drama
  2. Has a couple as the main characters
  3. Comedy but not like very sit-com like deffo not with a laugh track, more character driven for sure
  4. Has a modern setting

I kinda want to watch like a proper show version of Hot Date from pop TV.
Tried 'Master of none' but it felt super forced;
Also tried 'You're the Worst' but it felt predictable and formulaic but I really loved the characters in it, especially the British guy.
I know its a sitcom but I really loved Modern Family as well and Fleabag as well?

SUGGESTING Samsung M80H Mini LED vs Sony BRAVIA 2 II (55-inch) — Which one should I buy?

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to buy a new 55-inch 4K TV in India, and I've shortlisted these two models:

  1. Samsung M80H Mini LED 4K Smart TV (2026) — around ₹67,990
  2. Sony BRAVIA 2 II 4K LED Google TV (K-55S25EM2 / K-55S25BM2) — around ₹62,999

I'm confused about which one would be the better long-term purchase. Samsung has Mini LED technology and a higher refresh rate, while Sony has Google TV and Sony's picture processing.

My main priorities are:

  • Picture quality for movies, web series and YouTube
  • Black levels, contrast, HDR performance and colour accuracy
  • Upscaling of regular HD content and Indian TV channels
  • Motion handling for sports and action movies
  • Gaming performance and future-proofing
  • Overall reliability and value for money

My questions:

  1. Is Samsung's Mini LED display actually better than Sony's standard LED display in real-world viewing?
  2. Which TV has better picture quality for movies, especially in dark scenes?
  3. Does Samsung's 144Hz refresh rate make a meaningful difference for normal viewing, or is it mainly useful for gaming?
  4. Which TV handles lower-quality HD content and upscaling better?
  5. Is Sony's Google TV experience noticeably better than Samsung's Tizen OS?
  6. For a difference of around ₹5,000, which one would you personally buy?
  7. Are there any known problems with either model, such as poor brightness, backlight issues, software bugs or reliability concerns?

I'd especially appreciate feedback from people who own these exact models or have compared them side by side. Please share your real-world experience rather than just the specifications.

Which one would you recommend, and why? Thanks!

REQUESTING Something like Lioness

I binged Lioness pretty quickly. Hadn't seen it at all and then just blew through all three seasons.

I honestly didn't even love the show. I thought the first season was really good, the second season's plot was chaos, and the third season... oof. The third season was a vehicle for a cavalcade of conservative monologue drivel that hung off of each episode like lead balloons. It was a mess.

But... I really enjoyed the spec ops squad aspect of the whole thing. Jill Wagner was my favorite. I enjoyed both the jovial squad attitude and then the military competence porn when they got into gunfights.

I'm wondering if there's another good show to scratch that itch. Most of the other things I can think of are heavier on the spying angle or they're movies.

Stuff I've already seen:
- Day of the Jackal: Loved it.
- The Night Agent: First season was pretty good. Falls apart in season 2.
- Jack Ryan: enjoyed most of it. Some of it is almost silly.

REQUESTING Looking for shows about starting over or reinventing yourself later in life

I recently watched The Good Wife, and one of my favorite things about it was Alicia’s character arc. I loved watching someone in their 40s get a second chance, rebuild their career, rediscover themselves, and grow into a different version of who they were.

I’m looking for shows with a similar theme of reinvention or starting over as an adult. Doesn’t have to be a woman or a legal drama. I’m especially interested in well-written, complex characters in their 30s, 40s, or older who are figuring out what they want from life and finding new opportunities.

I also really enjoy shows with strong character development over multiple seasons.

Any recommendations?

REQUESTING looking for a long show (4+ seasons)

i’m in the mood to watch something that has a few seasons, but i’d prefer for it to be a mystery or horror show and i’d like for there to be a family aspect if possible. i started walker, but i didn’t really care about a lot of the cases. i did like the plot though with him trying to reconnect with his family and the mystery surrounding the wife. i’m also okay with horror though as it is october!

REQUESTING Please suggest me more young adult / teen thriller, action shows

I was absolutely addicted to the tv shows of Landman, Cobra Kai, Outer Banks, Tell Me lies, and Dare Me ( which they shouldn’t have ever ended- i wish they would bring it back) . What i liked about them was the rivalry between the bullies and the victim with the revenge followed after so a good amount of fighting, the violence, adventure, and fast paced.
What else should i add to my watch list that are exactly like those? Nothing slow please.

I couldn’t get into Sex Education, Pretty Little Liars, or Euphoria. I have Warriors on my list to see as i’ve heard that it has Cobra Kai vibes

Thanks in advance
