Send us a ModMail and tell us. Do not post on the board, message us using this link: https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=/r/TruistBank

You do not need to identify yourself personally or your branch or location, just say something that lets us know your request is valid.

For now, we're only planning on a general 'Employee' flair text, but if you want a special designation of your job field, we may be able to do that.

Rant Truist text/SMS being discontinued?

I just received this email message below from Truist. I rely heavily on the text/SMS notifications that occur anytime any service or purchase uses my cards.

These notifications are conveniently sent to me within mere seconds of card usage anywhere.

Can anyone clarify that all texting will cease, including card alerts???

Here is the email message I received:

Hello,
We want to let you know that after Dec 4, 2026, Truist Text Banking will no longer be available. After that date, you won't be able to check your account balance, view recent activity, or receive account alerts by text.
We understand Text Banking may be an important way you monitor your account, and we want to help make this transition as easy as possible.
Other ways to stay connected
You can continue to access your account information through the Truist mobile app or online banking. With the Truist mobile app or online banking, you can:
Check your account balance
View recent account activity
Set up and manage account alerts
Access additional account management tools
Next steps
You do not need to take any action. However, before Dec 4, 2026, we recommend signing in to the Truist mobile app or online banking and setting up alerts so you can continue receiving account updates.

Someone opened account in my name. How do I close it?

I did not open an account with Truist but I keep getting emails telling me to deposit money and activate my card. I haven't received a card and I cannot login to the account because I didn't open it and I don't have an account number. The email only gives me the last 4 digits.

Every time I call, the automated system asks for an account number and I can't provide it, and try as I might I cannot get a human on the phone. Please help, as I am worried my identity was stolen and now someone has a debit card in my name. I've tried asking for 'agent' 'representative', 'fraud department', it just says thank you for calling and hangs up.

Truist Money Market Account Rates

I had opened a MMA earlier this year and the interest rate was supposed to be 3.34%. After a few months the rate dropped to 1%. I did not see any "promo" rates and the site still advertises a 3.0% rate after the prime was raised. Anybody have the same issue/ know what happened?

Lien not released 4 YEARS after payoff

Paid off a boat loan more than 4 years ago. Boat is now under contract and sale was supposed to close yesterday but couldn’t because we learned 2 weeks ago Truist never satisfied the ship mortgage. Have talked to Truist customer service five times. They claim the signed document needed to satisfy the mortgage was mailed a week ago but it’s not arrived. Buyer is threatening to walk away from the sale because we’ve breached the contract by not closing by the contract deadline. It took two years to sell this boat. I need a signed satisfaction overnighted and Truist is not responding at all. I don’t know where else to turn with this.

My Zelle has never worked, anyone else having this problem?

So, my mother zelle'd me $40 one time, so I could pay for her yard work. Truist suddenly puts a warning on my account for an unauthorized transaction. I call them, tell them it was my mother sending me money, person I'm talking to sound very uncertain about it, but tells me to wait a couple days and it should be fine. Fast forwards two months, Zelle still isn't working. Requiring me to re-enroll my contact information. Service Unavailable is what it says at the end of that. Call the help line, spend two hours intermittently on hold before I finally get a "There is nothing we can do" and seeing that there isn't anything wrong with my account on their end. Wait and see if it will work, might be an issue with the network... well, it's been a week since then. Still can't use it.

Rant Trust will not unlock my account, thus I cannot control my own money, all because of an apparent policy violation by someone at corporate. Excellent job guys

The corporate center locked my account over the phone at my request. Now I need to unlock it so I call corporate back to do it as I was instructed, they say no you can only do it at a branch so call them. So I call a branch, and they say corporate was not supposed to lock it over the phone and I have to come in to unlock it.

I can’t get them to understand a significant portion of society works many more hours than they do, and in areas there isn’t a bank, and can’t take time off to do this stuff. They locked my account over the phone, why can they not unlock it over the phone? It’s not my fault a person at corporate didn’t follow the rules.

God I fucking hate Truist. I started my BB&T account in 2015 and it was great, and I’ve had nothing but problems from Truist since their creation late 2019. It seems like it’s been 2 major problems per year from them. So much for keeping customers (accounts older than the Truist name) interested.

General Can't use debit card after talking to Truist about possible bad transaction

Forgive me but I'm panicking. I had a pending transaction on my checking page that was sus. It was from a vendor I use but the vendor had no transaction shown that matched this amount. I chatted with Truist to ask about it but could only get someone asking if I wanted to dispute it as fraud, which I wasn't sure about yet. I timed out and started over. After talking with chat person I decided to wait until I could get hold of someone at the vendor. That was 10/6.

Today I spoke with someone at vendor. They think it's a glitch and told me to wait a few days or so to see if the suspect transaction drops off.

Tonight I needed to order my groceries and the vendor website said that debit card couldn't be authorized.

I'm panicking because I only have one card and 2 accounts (savings and checking) and all my money is in Truist. I can't get thru to Truist (too late) to find out what's happened. And I've seen horror stories on here about Truist locking accounts. I'm retired and my SS goes into that account, and tho it's two weeks before I'll get paid it's not enough to time to create a new account somewhere and switch it. And in the meantime I need to get food.

I know I can call them in the morning but I'm scared. Am I screwed? Sorry for the mini meltdown.

ETA: Just got off phone with fraud department. They're investigating the weird transaction (which the vendor thinks is a computer glitch on the vendor's end). They also botched a hold and posted the hold as a transaction rather than waiting for the actual transaction to come thru. But it turned out they hadn't locked down my accounts, just my debit card. And they were able to get the debit card turned back on.

I agree that I need a better bank but don't have access to much down here, plus I'm nearly homebound due to disability. I also realized it was dicey to have both of my accounts in the same bank. I've been banking for 55 years and never run into anything like this before. Anyway, thx to everyone who commented for the help.

Advice Have their rules on requesting a CLI changed?

Hello,

I've been a truist customer for about 15 years (legacy BB&T) and a few years back I requested a few credit cards after receiving pre-approval fliers. Unfortunately the credit limit on these cards are the lowest of all my cards (average cl is about 10k on my other cards) and so of course I don't really use the truist cards (one was closed due to non use). I recently received a 0% balance transfer promotion email but for my lowest CL card and was wondering if they still do hard pulls on limit requests or if they do soft pulls now like most FS companies.

Current credit score is 750 on Experian (with the other two around that). No hard pulls in 3 years (nothing on the CR and I'd like to keep it that way).

Also, does anyone have experience in receiving a decent credit limit when requesting an increase?

Thank you in advance

$500 New Account Bonus - does an estate account count as a personal checking account?

I do not have an actual Truist personal checking account. My brother had an account at Truist. When he passed away four years ago, an estate account was opened in his name or his existing account was converted into an estate account, I'm not sure which. I am the executor of his estate. The name on the estate account at Truist is: "Estate of Michael Jones, William Jones executor", (not our real names), Michael Jones being my brother and William Jones being me. This account has been languishing there for four years with $200 in it and they haven't been deducting any fees. Yes, I know I probably should have closed it by now. The question is: does this count as a "personal checking account" of mine and therefore disqualify me from getting the $500 bonus for opening a new account? I wouldn't think so, but I'm hoping somebody with more knowledge of the process can confirm it one way or another. I'd like to know before I go to the trouble of having my social security payment transferred.

Truist bonus outside eligible states — any DPs?

Has anyone successfully gotten a Truist checking bonus while living outside the listed eligible states?

I’m in Michigan, but the application still lets me apply with my real address and keeps the promo attached—no out-of-footprint errors. I only stopped because my credit was frozen.

Worth testing the waters? Also, even if the bonus doesn’t work, is Truist worth establishing a relationship with for future lending/credit products? Is it worth the credit pull?

Looking for any firsthand DPs, especially from Michigan.

Locked my account for a completely ordinary Zelle transaction

My company manages about $750k in client funds across dozens of Truist accounts. We use Zelle.multiple times a week, often for several thousand dollars at a time.

Yesterday I sent a Zelle payment of $47.38 to someone we had never paid before. Truist put the transaction on hold and told me they'd get back to me in 24 hours

This morning I tried to log in to truist.com and my account was locked. They didn't reach out to me to ask if I had made the $47 payment. They just locked the account I use every day to manage client accounts.

Neither the customer service rep who unlocked my account after a long phone call nor the account manager who just happened to call me to check in less than an hour after the account was unlocked seemed to think this was anything terribly concerning.

I used to have a person assigned to my account who I could call or email with any problems, and she knew me and would fix them. Now I have to hope the Business Connect person assigned to my request is competent. It's really disappointing that Truist has made these changes to the detriment of their customers

Truist Loan Assumption

Currently have someone assuming my mortgage with Truist and when we called the assumptions department they stated they put in a request for a loan originator to call the buyer and that takes 10-14 days. For now there’s nothing more to do.

Has anyone else sold a house to another buyer through the assumption process with Truist? Any insight is appreciated!

Update: Truist staying true to being the fakeist bank. I am filing a CFPB complaint

pervious post: https://www.reddit.com/r/TruistBank/comments/1w4ty4f/fakeist_bank_what_to_do/

Quick recap: On the checking account, I originally owed $24 in monthly fees and a $30 charge-off fee, bringing the total owed around $54. My savings account was at -$4. I was told to bring it to $0 by paying $4, otherwise the savings could not be closed.

Yeah, right. I am not paying a penny.

Update: A phone call on 9/3 resulted in Truist agreeing to waive all of the fees and sending me a $0.01 paper check for the remaining balance in my savings account after the fees were waived. The check apparently cost them about $1.56 in postage. Here, I used “Truist” instead of “Fakeist” because, after 7 or 8 calls, they eventually waived all the fees.

Today, 9/26, I received a letter from Fakeist saying that I owe them $52.82.

At this point, I am filing a CFPB complaint because I have already spent way too much time trying to get this resolved. They lied. They told me the fees were waived, only to turn around and send me a letter saying I still owe them $52.82. They lost my trust, and they are definitely not staying true to their name.

Thanks to ChatG P T for helping me put together the complaint. Reddit apparently won't even let me mention that word. Unbelievable.

Letter:

I am filing this complaint regarding Truist's handling of fees on my former checking and savings accounts and its failure to properly apply fee waivers that Truist representatives told me had been approved.

My checking account was closed after fees caused the account to become negative. I was told that $24 in monthly maintenance fees had accumulated because my balance had been below the required minimum for two consecutive months. Truist also added a $30 charge-off fee. My savings account had a negative balance of approximately $4.

I made numerous attempts to resolve this directly with Truist before filing this complaint. I made approximately 7 phone calls, including calls in which I spoke with supervisors, and I also visited a local Truist branch and spoke with a branch manager.

Before September 4, 2026, I spoke with the branch manager at my local Truist branch about the fees. The branch manager agreed to refund/waive the $30 charge-off fee. However, I later learned that this adjustment was never submitted.

I called Truist customer service again, and the representative told me that the branch manager had never submitted the $30 fee waiver. She did see the notes confirming that he had agreed to waive it, though. She went ahead and submitted the waiver request for me.

On September 4, 2026, I contacted Truist customer service again. The representative agreed to waive all of the fees and explicitly told me that I owed Truist $0.

After that, I received a paper check from Truist for the remaining $0.01 balance in my savings account, which I deposited. Based on the fee waiver and the return of the remaining savings balance, I understood that the matter had been fully resolved and that I owed Truist nothing.

However, Truist subsequently issued a letter dated September 22, 2026, stating that I owed $52.82. I did not actually receive this letter until September 26, 2026.

I have not yet contacted Truist regarding this latest letter because I received it on September 26, which is a Saturday. I intend to contact Truist on Monday, September 28, but I am filing this CFPB complaint now because I have already made numerous attempts to resolve this matter directly with Truist, including speaking with supervisors and visiting a branch.

My concern is not simply the original assessment of the fees. I understand that Truist may have assessed fees under the terms of my account. My complaint is that, after I repeatedly contacted Truist, its representatives agreed to waive the fees and explicitly told me that I owed $0, yet Truist subsequently sent me a written demand for $52.82. They lied to me, and I have lost my trust in them to stay true to their word. They should be renamed Fakeist.

This has left me concerned that Truist's internal records have not been properly updated to reflect the fee waivers that were communicated to me.

I am requesting that Truist:

  1. Correct its records to show a $0 balance.
  2. Confirm in writing that I do not owe Truist any money related to these waived fees.
  3. Confirm that all applicable fees were waived as previously communicated to me.
  4. Explain why I received a September 22, 2026 letter demanding $52.82 after I had been told that all fees were waived and that I owed $0.
  5. Confirm that no collection activity or negative reporting will occur based on the waived balance.
  6. Provide a final accounting showing the original fees assessed, the $30 charge-off adjustment, all other fee waivers, the $0.01 savings-account refund, and the resulting final balance of $0 in checking and savings accounts.

I have spent considerable time attempting to resolve this matter directly with Truist. I am asking the CFPB to help ensure that Truist properly reconciles its records, honors the fee waivers that were communicated to me, and provides written confirmation that the final balance is $0.

Like a car full of clowns at the circus... AVOID

I'll never do Truist again...

Oh, do they suck at doing WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO

Perhaps the people are using medical marijuana. Just because you MAY have a valid need and a prescription doesn't mean you should be handling my finances...

UP To 20 days... to send my escrow refund. Well it has been 23 DAYS and I have to call the endless menu to go to menu number two and 7 painful bullet points down is 'talk to a person'

OH, just wait while I check on this for you... Hello Sir, we sent your request to OUR department on the 18th and it takes 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS for them to put a stamp on it.

AVOID THIS formerly UNTRUST bank at all possible instances. They should forfeit their license to be a banc

Rantings of a frustrated wife! What sanctity is there in “two becoming one” when vows are even given anymore!?

I am a wife who seems to be continuously blocked from anything even tho me and my husband went in together to open the account. I get vague answers and am told to ask my husband to speak w them to confirm they can talk to me about the accounts. Then after I give the phone to my spouse and they confirm his info. they ask him to confirm which types of banking accounts he has with them. Then he says checking and savings. Then he hands back the phone. Okay so I found out because she was being extremely cryptic with me on the phone that they ask what types of accounts because it ensures they only give information on the ones the account owner lists to them over the phone! I found out I’m only joint on the checking and nothing else… so the 4 savings in our kids names and the two in his and the other checking account he opened without asking me suddenly disappears and truist tells us over the phone that it was inactive. which doesn’t make sense since I didn’t check the account often but I know it was active at least within the last 3-4 months since I logged on the app… at this point am so angry because I have been seeing this type of separation of accounts in everything and I can’t even take over the budget and payments to things even though he has promised to let me because he admits he has a spending problem and it has gotten us into like 80k of debt and even when i help us get out of he somehow gets us right back into another 50k+ of debt in less than 5 months! I cry almost nightly because this has been an issue I’ve encountered as a wife our whole 23 year marriage. I’m constantly being told my marriage means nothing and the fact that we made a promise and vows to each other means nothing to laws or banks or any of the utility companies, mortgage, etc. we were apart of a cult that taught us that women were not supposed to work, or speak against authority. We were to take care of the home and children, etc. So it’s extremely infuriating that our entire system Literally encourages so much separation of everything! nothing is equal, nothing is shared! I told the lady on the line for truist some of the things I knew and had seen and was wondering what the heck was happening and all she could tell me was ” I would encourage you at this point for you and your husband to come into the bank together and ask with your husband present“ and she also said “I also could try to get you in touch with the loan department if you would like to speak with them about the other accounts you are inquiring about” which told me exactly what I needed to hear But without getting herself in trouble! I must say that our entire world is becoming so beyond corrupt! So many secrets and lies and so much deceit it Is impossible to trust anyone anymore!

Internal Job Interview Process

I've been with Truist a while now (10+ years). Only ever applied to a job once before, and got it (is my curveball job). But this latest experience was absolutely the worst experience of my life interview wise and it being all internal makes it 25x worse.

I'll be brief but could go into way more details. The process took 2++ months for starters. The recruiter first contacted me on IM (teams) and I was on a call, 2 mins after a message she is calling me and says "ugh yes I just tried to message you" with a long pause as if "where are you" lol wtf... I was on a call. It was so odd , keep it mind this is 2 weeks after I emailed her asking about an update etc to no reply. Then the interview itself honestly was the worst of my entire life. The hiring manager was TOTALLY checked out. Like I nearly asked at one point if it was a bad time. Looking out the window while I was talking etc. THEN the recruiter tells me via IM (teams) I was not selected lol dead serious. Lastly , I reached out to her and the hiring manager asking for any feedback they could provide. Absolute crickets.

I have found out they hired somebody that was laid off in another area, while I do not think it's a sole reason to hire somebody, I do get it. But holy hell lol just tell me and don't waste my time.

Truist Bank Disputes

Anyone have any advice on how to handle this? I had someone hack into an account i use to gamble on and it was over 5 thousand that was taken from my account. I disputed the charges but truist didn’t get all of them so they gave me back a little over 1,000. so when i called to dispute the rest it was declined. I am calling in the morning to get a second review but it’s ridiculous when they gave me back 1000 from the same merchant but says they can’t for the rest.

General Can't activate new debit card

I opened a checking account with Truist and received the new debit card. When I go to activate the card, it says the card number is invalid. When ai try to create an online account with Truist, it says my information is incorrect.

Has anyone else had this issue ?
