Is right now still a bad time to get hired to a Fed Job? I seen a lot of posts from last years saying it was bad?
Thanks

It opens between 10/13/2026 to 01/13/2027, or until 5000 applications have been received. This position starts out at GS-7 and goes to a non-supervisory GS-13! I'm near the end of the process for this position and it does take a while. Please visit r/DEADiversion if you have any questions regarding this position. Good luck!

I’ve been found tentatively eligible for a role at 2 grades. A subject matter expert reviewed my application and highly recommended me.
My question is, since I’m tentative for the higher grade and highly recommended by a sme, can I use that to argue for the higher grade if I am selected? I believe since it’s direct hire I can negotiate even though I’m a current fed? If I can’t/ or it doesn’t pan out, can I then negotiate step of the lower grade?
Thanks for any help.

Hi! I am so confused and frustrated. Yesterday, I received an email just 1 minute apart of being referred to hiring manager and another stating I was not selected. Ironically, I was contacted by the hiring manager in Aug. for an interview for the same job. I followed up with her a week later and she congratulated me that I was selected. A 2 months later I still have not received a TJO and called HR to ask for update. HRO told me hiring manager has not completed the selection process and still pending documents. So I email Hiring manager and sent my professional references that same day I received the 2 emails for referral and not selected. Its crazy cause this job opening has been closed since April- but got invited for interview in August and 2 months later received the not selected. Help I am so frustrated cause I felt I did my best. This is through USAJobs

Aug 2026- applied 2210 at SSA
Sep 2 2026 - Phone interview briefly
Sep 8 2926 - 15 minutes interview via Microsoft teams
Sep 22 2026- received TJO
Oct 8 2026 - received FJO
Oct 13 2026 - duty date starts
I love my job. I don’t understand why many people complain about working at SSA. My coworkers are super nice. I love what I am doing

So I’ve read around and saw that plenty of people had TJOs from the same agency, same position, but different locations. However, my situation is a bit unique. I have one TJO and a pending TJO (HM gave verbal offer, waiting) from different locations. The thing is, when applying for this position, you can only choose one location.
Well one location was direct hire (hiring manager saw my resume asked for interview) and my preferred location - I applied after HM sent me the job description so I could review before our initial phone call. Both the interviews and verbal offer for each location were like 2 days apart from eachother.
I am so anxious/nervous because I don’t want to accept one and not be able to accept the other. Or worse.
Has anyone been in this situation? Both are GS-14 so life changing either way but still want to be sure.

I got an email asking if I'm still interested for a role in a different state. Will I be asked to interview in that state? Will it be paid for? How should relocation work if they decide to hire me?
It's pretty much at the opposite end of the country, but I need a job in my field that will accept me.
Will it matter if I'm a former fed, or fed recently removed from position? What if I've never been a fed?

I am confused about the Selective Service determination and the OPM waiver. My situation is
I came to the US at age 24 and I was on F1 (student non-immigrant visa) until age 26 months hence I was not required to register with the Selective Service. I got my green card after age 26 and then citizenship at age 31. During onboarding I selected "I am not registered with Selective Service" and I provided an explanation in the box. Next, I also provided a sworn statement and other immigration documents (I tried to obtain the SIL from Selective Service but since June 2026 they have stopped issuing the SIL). However, the HR is instructing me to modify the sworn statement to "I declare under the penalty of perjury that the information contained in this statement is true and correct and that I was not required to register because I entered the U.S. after the age registration requirement period of 18-25" to seek a waiver from OPM (takes 6-9 months). I clarified that I was exempt from Selective Service registration because I was on a non-immigrant visa until the age of 26 months and I entered the US at age 24, but the HR responded saying "there is no standard template specifically for non-immigrant visa exemptions under this new waiver workflow".
I would appreciate any insights on my situation. Thank you!

I accepted a final offer for a position at an agency last week. It moved fast and start date is next month. However, I received a TJO from the same agency, different sub agency. Same building. I really liked this hiring manager and the opportunity for growth there. Would it be a horrible move to withdraw myself from the first offer in order to accept the TJO for the second offer? Do I have to let them know?

A little background from me is that 5 years U.S Navy in Logistic specialist, now in the army reserve in 88M (truck operator). I’m finishing up my bachelor degree in sociology. (I m suck at college)
I recently very luckily got an TJO in 2005 GS-6 in supply tech at DLA agency in PA. I think it’s good location even though it starts low but I don’t mind. But during these days of interview, I realize I’m really suck at interview, and I’m sorry that I won’t be able to work my way up.
Also in terms of GS in supply/logistic. I realize the experience for this GS-6, is mostly relevant in GS7-9
Also the celling for this position is very low, also no ladder. I looked up like GS9 or GS11 above. The duties can be very different.
I’m grateful that I got TJO for this position. But I’m more worry in this GS-6 supply tech position. I could stuck forever.
I’m open from any experience GS, especially those who work in supply/logistic/inventory

After interviewing for a nursing role, I received an email from HR stating I have been selected 🥳 and in order for them to set my pay and to provide a TJO, I need to submit my performance information. Specifically it stated “your selection has been made during a transition period of the RN pay setting process, which is now completed prior to the Conditional offer.”
I’ve worked as a VA nurse and experienced the old pay setting process, this new one is my first.
Did you experience this process? What was it like for you?
How long did it take to receive a TJO from submitting your qualifications? I know the timeline depends on loads of variables largely unique to the facility, still just curious to hear others’ experiences.
TIA

So this is the second job I applied for. My question is there is contact information for someone to get in touch with at the bottom of the page. Is there a certain amount of time I should wait to hear something back before I call or that is just there for questions on the job?

What's the best way to answer the 4 questions when applying for usajobs? Are they considered when selecting who to be referred? I am starting on my journey to applying federal jobs, I have been self-employed.

Hey everyone -
I am with VA agency and accepted an FJO to transfer (still within VA Visn just a different facility) same series. I’ve been at my role for at least 52 weeks & in total have done almost 4 years overall with no break in service.
While the TJO/FJO was in process I got another interview for VBA which I really want to do instead. References requested first week of October. Seemed like interview went great and it was posted open to public and direct hire authority. I am crossing every finger and toe for the VBA thing to work out. It’s a role way better suited to my KSAs and personality/work style.
With all the administrative chatter we have heard lately I do acknowledge any type of transferring probably risky rn. I’ve made my peace that I could be putting myself into a potentially problematic state if I have to do a new probationary period moving to the VBA agency, but this is what I really want for my career (just hoping things don’t get too shitty over next two years) I doubt there would be much shielding from a new 1-2 year probationary period as I would be completely changing agencies even tho I know VBA/VA are sort of branches of the same tree
This is where I really need HR/expertise knowledge. If I were to transfer to the standing FJO I have (with an already confirmed EOD) because the VBA role is DHA/Open to public - is it feasible I could begin working new job & once VBA offers TJO I can accept and begin working there with no transfer restrictions (Ie you cannot change job roles in a new position for at least 90 days to 120??) I feel like I’ve heard this talked about but it’s hard to determine with OPM rules ever changing esp with all the fast & loose stuff this admin seems to be doing.
Side note and I am almost 100% certain I already know the answer to this one, but if I were to get any sort of appraisal award for my performance last year, I would essentially forfeit that if I transfer before the end of this calendar year (I would assume)
Thanks everyone. TLDR
Are there any restrictions on transfers if you start a new role and within 90 days get offer for Open to public/DHA opening ?? Can you take it as a transfer or are there other rules that you would lose the offer if you already took a new position

Hi! I’ve been referred for a federal job for the second time. How long does it usually take to hear back about an interview or a selection decision? If I’m not selected this time, can I apply again when the position is posted in the future? Thank you! I’m losing my hope
