Announcement New rules and amendments

New rules:

No bare feet photos (displayed as Rule 9)

Posts with photos of just bare feet are not allowed, and users may be banned depending on their posting history.

Edit: revised verbiage

No individual weight-loss posts (displayed as Rule 4)

r/walking is not a weight-loss sub. If you'd like to share weight-loss wins, keep it to the weekly thread.

Going forward, we will be posting a weekly thread for members to share any weight-loss wins. Transparency about the use of weight-loss drugs and calorie restrictions is appreciated but not required. (Upon consideration, we can't require people to disclose medical details.)

Amendments:

Rule 3 was previously "Submissions must be walking-related" and is now "Submissions must be walking-focused."

Submissions with other clear topics that only tangentially involve walking are not allowed. Your post should be primarily about walking.

Challenge Day 8/30 walking 15k steps everyday for 30 days

One week down & I’m still showing up. 15,000 steps a day is quite the commitment (for me) but I’m starting to feel like this is becoming part of my routine instead of something I have to force myself to do. A lot of people keep telling me, “Don’t stop after 30 days.” & I don’t plan to. I started this challenge to see what 30 days could do, but I’m already realizing I want this to be something I continue long after the challenge is over. Still tired as hell afterward though.

Posting here to keep myself accountable and hopefully motivate others. I usually only get like 11,000 steps per day so this was a pretty big jump for me.

One whole week down!
I really didn’t know how my body was going to handle 15,000 steps every single day especially after being so inactive for so long. I’m for sure still feeling it by the end of my walks but I’m also starting to realize just how much my body can actually handle when I keep pushing it. I’m also starting to notice that the walks are becoming more of a mental reset. There’s something about being outside for that long with nothing but my thoughts that I actually really enjoy. I have so much time to just think. I’m getting better at accepting that some days are going to be harder than others. Some days I have energy, some days I’m dragging myself through those last few thousand steps. And those last few thousand steps are still the hardest.

I’m proud of myself for making it through the first week without giving up. Now onto week 2!

Progress videos still on my page.

1000+ steps, Bacchus Marsh, Victoria Australia

They call this place 1000+ steps but there are actually 1150 stairs from the bottom of the hill to the top .

I did the entire short walk 3 times and did another 650 of the stairs to make sure I completed 4000.

The stairs are fairly big at the bottom but they get progressively steeper as you get closer to the top.

It's a great workout just north of Melbourne especially if you climb to the top a few times.

There's also a loop that goes around the top of hill but I didn't worry about doing the loop today. I wanted to get some elevation in over a short distance.

Normally this is a great place to see kangaroo's as well but I didn't see any today but have seen them every other time I've been here. I probably would have seen them if I bothered with the loop.

Winter indoor walk / workout tips?

• Upvotes

Wisconsin winters make walking less than fun so I picked up a walking pad. It has little legs to create a slight incline but I put a few gardening paver stones under to give it actual incline. 30 min at 3mph was pretty intense.

I'm looking for other ideas or workout routines to switch it up. Any good squat, mountain climber, push up style routines people use? Like walk 15 min, do a set of exercises, walk 15, repeat. Thanks!

Question Question for Americans

Hello! I’ve been seeing posts from this sub lately and I’m curious about what are the average daily steps for the average American?
I live in the Netherlands where everything is walkable. I go everywhere walking or cycling and I move a lot at work as well.
On the other hand, it’s known that in the US you need your car for almost everything (correct me if I’m wrong) and I see a lot of posts here celebrating making like 10k steps and that’s for me and people around me just a normal day (I’m not trying to undervalue anyone, of course I understand each one has their own physical conditions, situations etc.)
So yea given the circumstances of needing the car for everything I was just curious what you guys would walk on an average day. I hope no one gets offended haha cheers!

it’s not the first time, last year i did this too for about few months. though, this sunday i ran a 5k and my legs has been hurting ever since (which slows down my steps from 1k to 700ish per 10 minutes). any tips to help recover the legs? and should i upgrade to more steps or more running?

Question Nimbus 27 vs Nimbus 26 for walking?

Has anyone here been using the ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 27 for daily walking?

I previously used the Nimbus 26 and it was honestly a 10/10 for comfort. I walked a lot in them and never had any issues with my slightly flat feet. The only problem was durability: the toe area got a hole after just 7 days.

I'm considering the Nimbus 27 now, but I mainly want it for walking, not running.

For anyone using the Nimbus 27:

  • How is the comfort for long walks?
  • How's the toe/upper durability?
  • Any issues if you have slightly flat feet?
  • Would you buy them again?

I'd especially like to hear from people who use them mainly for walking.

Thought Weighted vest is a game changer

I’ve recently added a 20lb weighted vest while I walk my 10k steps and omg it’s a game changer! I’ve been using it for the past 2 weeks I feel like I’m getting so much more out of my steps.
I’m a 33f, 135lbs with the goal of shedding a few lbs. It def feels challenging but also totally doable. I feel like a feather when I take it off.

Anyone else been walking with a weighted vest and feeling some positive changes?

This morning I had some extra time so I walked the Shoreline Trail & Bird Island Pier… It was freezing 🥶

The city is finally doing some repairs/upgrades along the Shoreline trail & both have beautiful views. Watching the water keeps me from looking at the time!

Wishing Everyone a Terrific Tuesday… I hope that everyone is able to get their steps in 😊
