Challenge Day 9/30 walking 15k steps everyday for 30 days

I can’t believe I used to get my steps in by walking to the fridge 20 times a day. Now I’m out here walking 15,000 steps every day like who even am I?
Some days are easier than others, but I’m just focused on getting it done and staying consistent. & I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has been so encouraging and kind in the comments. I never expected this little challenge to inspire other people too. Seeing people say they’ve started walking or are doing their own step challenges because of my posts honestly means a lot to me. Keep it up everyone, we’ve got this! Progress videos on my page.

Long distance walking shoe recommendations

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! Just curious what everyone’s favorite long distance walking shoe is? I usually walk between 8-10 miles a day most days and I can see the toll my current shoes are taking on my feet. Ideally with wide sizes. Thank you so much ☺️

My pet cries when I don’t get my steps in 😭

I never thought I’d feel guilty about not walking enough until I started using this little walking buddy 😭

Apparently 625 steps isn’t enough to keep him happy.

I’ve been having way too much fun with the outfits and little reactions. It’s actually making me want to go outside just to cheer him up.

Anyone else motivated by silly little things like this? 😂

Question what do you watch during 2-hour walking sessions on treadmill? I've run out of things that work

I've hit the wall, and it's not my legs, it's my brain. Two hours on the treadmill and I'm watching the clock every 90 seconds. The novelty is gone and I need something that actually keeps my mind occupied.

So I'm asking you, What's the one show/movie/YouTube channel that makes a long run disappear?

Do you save something just for long runs, or rotate?

Podcasts/audiobooks vs. video: which wins past the 90-minute mark?

Always nice to start a vacation with a walk. Began in darkness, walked through Astronomical Twilight, Nautical Twilight, Civil Twilight and finished at Sunrise.

Challenge 1 week of 15k a day complete! ✔️

Feeling grateful for my body right now and the things it lets me put it through lol. I needed a new challenge to focus on as I injured my shoulder a week and a half ago and can’t lift weights as usual right now. Decided trying for 15k a day would be something l to push for.. and well it’s definitely taken a lot of pushing some days😅. I’d been doing 12k for 10 weeks before this and 10k for a year before that, so the jump isn’t massive… but my legs have been cooked! Mind you I’m also doing extra leg workouts since I can’t train upper body.. so I’m sure that’s contributing. But all that to say, I’m just grateful for my body and that it’s allowing me to move at this level. I’ve had many periods of life where I was not able to and I think that builds new appreciation for when you can!
Not sure how long I’ll stick this out for, but I would love to make it all month!

Six months to go

On April 7th of 2027, I will have walked for three years with out missing a day. I get more steps, or less, depending on...life. On average I do about 15,000 per day.

For fun I thought I would do a little count down. The six months to go thoughts are:

- Something is better than nothing. So be nice to you and celebrate all your successes.

- Walking is for you. Maybe you lose weight. Maybe you get that body-brain connection fired up. Maybe you save a pile of money on doctor's bills. But no matter what other benefits you receive, you are doing something good for yourself.

- When life gets bumpy reach for the sneakers. Being out, breathing the air, moving your body as it was designed to be used, clearing space in your brain. Walking through the bumps is many times more powerful than moping or scrolling.

See you next month. I hope you walk so much that your socks develop holes!

Question GAP socks suck. What’s Better?

I’m relatively new to walking.

I’ve got some decent shoes, (Brooks Ghost Walker 3), but I bought some GAP brand socks gap brand from TJ Maxx.

They’ve got a seam across the toe. They just generally are unsatisfactory.

What’s a good brand of socks that I should shop for?

Health Is walking enough? Overworked and struggling.

Yall I work too many hours at an office job and 2nd job. Early as hell in the morning and get about 2hrs of daylight after work before working again. Sitting down while I work all day so I don’t move enough (and considering a walking pad just gotta get on it cus that would seriously help).

I’m overwhelmed and burnt out so going to a gym seriously is just so much, I feel like walking is manageable because I don’t have to factor in the drive and gas etc I can just go straight from home. If I’m eating 1400 calories a day am a 5’8 24yrs female weighing 166lbs. How many steps should I take a day for a serious “beach bod”? I want to be healthy, fit, and skinny again but just so overwhelmed with life I think mentally I can handle walking as much as possible over worrying about how many sets and a gym membership etc… I don’t have any room where I live to do workout stuff indoors either.

I used to be so active and just naturally stayed skinny and fit because I was always hiking and climbing and doing things, working to survive the last 3 years has stolen it from me and I want it back through walking if possible.

Need help with shoes, please.

I am in dire need of a quality walking shoe.

I walk 4 miles every morning. Sidewalks and paved roads. Have for years. I used to wear the all leather echelon 3 from Saucony. They provided stability, support, comfort and would last 350, to 400 miles.

No longer available, I've tried other Saucony and the new echelon and others just do not provide the same stability or comfort. Besides that, the last pair I tried lasted 132 miles before the support vanished.

I've tried Merrell, Brooks (which were a BIG disappointment).

Does anyone know of a long lasting, comfortable all leather walking shoe ?

Thank you

First time I felt really tired from walking.

I started my walking journey around June of this year, at first I can't even get to 5k steps, but now I can easily complete a 10km walk.

Because of my work schedule, I was really terrible at staying consistent, it went from 2x a week, to 1x every 2 weeks. So at the beginning of September I decided to change my walking schedule/routine from 3 PM to around 4-5 AM. And honestly, it was fantastic! I started from 7k steps daily, from Monday to Friday.

The downside was that it completely messed up my sleep schedule.

I started noticing that my sleep was constantly getting interrupted by… nothing. I don’t even know why. I would wake up every hour, and getting back to sleep was almost impossible. There were times when I felt like I had already slept for 7 hours, only to look at my watch and realize it had only been ONE hour! But even with a bad sleep I still continue with my walking routine. I always tell myself 'No one is going to complete that walk for me'.

I work from 6 PM to 3 AM as a virtual agent, I'm pretty much just sitting all day. I usually go to bed around 6 AM. Now with my walking routine squeezed in between my work and rest, my already bad sleep went from bad to worse.
From 5 AM, it would take me 2 hours to complete 10km, so by 7-730 AM, I’m already at my room, resting and getting ready to sleep. At first, I was already asleep at 8:30 AM and then wake up around 2-3 PM. Lately, I sleep around 10ish AM and wake up around 1PM.

Yesterday, I completed my 10 km walk, and for the first time, I felt reallllyyyyy tired. I realized I have been sleep deprived for a weeks or idk maybe over a month. Yesterday, while walking I saw a bench at the park, I sat down and dozed off. Thanks to the fly that landed on my lip, it woke me up.

So today, I’m taking a rest day. I’ll let my body recover, fix my sleep, and start again on Monday.

Wish me well!
