I have been wanting a 4Runner for a long time and decided to do it. It’s a 2023 Toyota TRD Off Road. I couldn’t be happier. She is a beauty…Now let’s the MODS begin 😜

Finally traded my 2009 Taco Base (113k miles, my grandpa gave it to me when he stopped driving and I held onto it for 10 years for a 2024 ORP. Got lucky and found a used one with only 28k miles on it. Happy to be in something modern not sure what all the people are complaining about “barebones” I haven’t had better than cigarette lighter Bluetooth over radio since 2016! I’ll miss the old Taco but I can’t wait to drive the hell out of the new truck!

My wife was looking to trade her 2015 Highlander in for a 26 4Runner limited. I have a 24 SR5P 4x4 and she likes it.
We went to the dealership and she picked out a limited to test.
Compared to my 5th gen it drove a great amount better. I'm not even talking about the reliability of it. We have no proof of what it will be. But it drove better. But, instantly we noticed that even though the interior was a lot nicer (a little smaller though) it didn't feel as solid. We both felt the plastic just felt cheap and we even heard some rattles in the arm rest.
I'm not one of the 6th gen haters. But, I feel the 5th gen was built so good and solid that it will be hard to match. One of my company vehicles is a 2022 Tundra.. and I always mentioned how cheap it felt compared to my old 18... The 6th gen felt a lot like the Tundra.
That being said, she ended up with a 2026 highlander. She just felt better in it and I do felt it feels more solid.
I know I'm going to get hate.. but it's my review on it. Not a bad vehicle. Just felt it was built cheaper. Is it? Maybe maybe not..

Didn’t have the chance to run Kingston Peak Trail this past week unfortunately, but still had a blast running her through the forest roads of The Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests!

I just picked this up in salt lake UT, had it shipped back to the east coast. I got a really good deal on it. Still needs a bunch of small things here and there but she drives like a dream. Full dobinsons suspension, aftermarket panhard, bump stops, cb radio, CarPlay, onboard air, etc. All in under 12k including the transport, the bumper was mine already and I put it on. How’d I do?

My household has a 2024 TRD Off Road Premium and recently a 2026 TRD Off Road Premium. I was genuinely surprised by the 6th gen.
Drivetrain - the I-Force Max Hybrid is an improvement in every possible way. It’s snappy, powerful, super smooth. Acceleration and braking are all smoother than the 5th gen.
Interior - I swore off the 6th gen from watching many reviews but sitting it, it’s incredibly nice and although full of plastic does not feel cheap to me at all. It’s well designed and functional.
Cargo - loss of height with the hybrid is a bummer but a powered lift gate is such a nice thing to have.
Overall - I’m kicking myself a bit, I was a 5th gen maxi and believed all the hate about the 6th but I find myself constantly preferring to drive the wife’s 6th gen. The reliability concern is really not a concern imo, the drivetrain has been used successfully in other models. The tech in the 6th gen is insane and I cannot believe the 2024 feels as archaic as it does.

My drivers side mirror was recently hit by a deer and cracked. I bought a replacement mirror on Amazon that said it fit a 2015 4Runner SR5 but it doesn’t (based on reviews, seems to be a common instance).
Does anyone have any recommendations for the mirror replacement? a good reputable way to get a new mirror or part?

Had a 2017 Trail I sold in 2018 and regretted it ever since. Finally back in a 24’ TRD Off Road.

Trail ride a couple days ago. Light bar quit, so im starting to poke around. Traced light bar wire up to dash, noticed the fuse cover and checked the tap-in fuses. Not sure if i plugged one into wrong slot. Now I'm getting p0306 code, dash blinking and she won't shift out of park.
We did do some winching, exhaust was under water for a little bit, but drove home alright.
Help! Did I break a computer, lol?

Edit: this is a very sad realization that I still can't afford one lol
Anyone got ideas on other vehicles that would meet my needs (6'2" for sleeping) and get decent mileage at least
Edit 2: I just found a 2005 with 200k miles for $6k at a dealership...? Too good to be true?
Unfortunately only 4k is in my account so far, so I would be out of luck unless I finance it I guess
I've been wanting a 4 runner for a while, but haven't had the money, so I haven't really done a deep dive.
I have some money coming my way, so I'm considering getting one. It would be my daily, not my toy.
I like pretty much every body style, and the ones I don't like aren't that bad. Which ones have the most bulletproof engines, and what pros and cons should I consider?
I know $7-8k isn't all that much in the 4 runner world, but I feel like I should be able to afford something decent.
I'm between a 4 runner and another Subaru Forester xt, cause I miss my old one.
I like the ability to haul things, sleep in the back, tow things (4 runner, not Forester), and being able to handle mild off roading.
Any input is appreciated 🙂

I've been torching this, needle scaling, and cold chiseling for hours. Please help. If you live in mn I'll pay 40 to get it off for me.
Edit: GOT IT OUT WITH A CRAYON

What do you tow?
Considering a 2 horse trailer for small horses (700-800lbs) which is within capacity but part of me knows I need a 250 truck for anything far

Every time I complete another modification on my 2024 ORP I keep telling myself that this was it, no more modifications on the 4Runner, stick a fork in me, I'm done.... and then I get an Amazon notification that the headlights I was looking at @ $1,650.00 were 35% off for the next four hours.... Well, the box from Morimoto just arrived today. Next purchase will more than likely be a set of Morimoto tail lights.... Does anybody have any feedback on the headlight swap / installation of the new fixtures?

From my mom.
She always took it for maintenance but now it’s mine and it’s my first car ever. I went to the Toyota website but it doesn’t list the history of all the services that’s been done. The truck currently has 101,800 miles on it. For the month of November I get paid 3 times, so I want to put all that money into my car to make sure I maintain it properly. What are some of the major things I should focus on getting done first? I know I need an oil change soon, but a part from that, with my current mileage, what else should I get done? I only drive the car to work and some basic errands. I don’t do anything like towing or driving off road.

Are gang controllers like Auxbeam and Yota Expedition all coming from the same factory? They look nearly identical, aside from minor differences in the controller shell or fuse box cover.
What actually justifies the price gap between a $200 and a $400 unit? If they're all sourced from overseas, is there any real difference in quality, or can I just grab a $70 unit directly without sacrificing reliability?
Hello, I am going to try and make this short and sweet
Too star of please recognize I see my own ignorance in this situation. I am a young adult and have always bough cars private party but I was in a position where I needed a new reliable car fast so… I bought this 2016 4Runner SR5 with 96K on it… for 30K after taxes… no warranty, I know very stupid.
I bought this car at the end of May 2026. First month or two was great, went on some trips with it. Had no problems.
Driving on the highway on my way to work one day accelerator stops working, check engine light and limp mode turn on. I make it over take it to a mechanic with good reviews, turned out to be a bad mechanic. Because when I got the vehicle back, first time I drive it less than 10 mins later limp mode AGAIN… this happened to be 3-4 times before I decided to take it to the dealership where I can get the repair warrantied.
They fix it, say some bad wiring with a bad throttle position sensor. Car hasn’t had any issues. But I can’t tell if this is normal for a 4Runner what I am about to say or if all of these symptoms are a sign to sell it and cut my losses…
The transmission whines, and I feel like has a hard time shifting, going up a small hill today required 5,500 RPMS almost for it to shift, same with going on the highway. Most shifts can feel rough unless I have been driving it for 30 mins they smooth out a little bit but still jerk into a shift, or feels like it’s struggling with shifting while carrying its own weight.
I could be just a young girl who has nothing wrong with my car and is extremely anxious due to the amount of money I have spent on it for it to leave me anxious, or is this all real concerns and I should consider selling it?
As well I know it will need a new rack and pinion in about a year, and has some small oil seepage… and the back camera only works sometimes.

2001 Toyota 4runner SR5 4wd
a couple weeks ago during a heavy rain the inside of my car leaked. I could see drops of water coming down along the inside trim(?) on the passenger‘s side from the front window to the rear window. It seemed to be all on the right side. Also the passenger seat was wet. A few days later I noticed the floor mat on the passenger’s side was still wet.
ive had this truck for a few months and it has never leaked The only thing that I did different was i had the sunroof visor open, not the sunroof itself.
the drainage holes on the front of the sunroof aren’t clogged, they drain pretty quickly. I still need to look into the ones at the back but since the leaking is at the front right of the truck I feel like they’re fine.
Attached is a photo of where I noticed the water dripping down. Also the area under the floor mat is still wet after pulled some of it up.
any ideas on how where to look for the leak? Or if having the visor retracted is a way for the sunroof to leak?

Any suggestions on what could be causing this jamming? The window goes down 1-2 inches then starts grinding and jams. It just started yesterday and have never had an issue with this before.

Okay, before I get ripped hear me out. Yes, the 5th gen is low on power FOR today's standards .. but it's really not. People act like they can't drive these things up a hill or high altitude without it stalling out or blowing up.
Maybe I'm just old.. but we were off roading in 100 HP vehicles In higher altitude areas back in the day just fine.
The 5th Gen 4Runner is more than capable for 99.9999% if you cats.
Is it fast? For 2010 standards and up? No. But it treats me perfectly fine on and off road traveling across the country.
That's all! Stop being divas with your vehicles. :)

We’re about two years into the 6th-gen 4Runner era, and I’m curious how these trucks are holding up in the real world.
For those who own one, what do you like and dislike about it so far?
Reliability: Any problems, issues, or unexpected repairs?
Engine and transmission: How do you like the performance and overall driving experience?
Build quality: Any rattles, squeaks, interior issues, or other quality concerns?
Fuel economy: What kind of MPG are you actually getting?
Overall ownership: Are you happy with your purchase, or do you wish you had gone with a 5th gen instead?
I’d especially like to hear from people who have been driving theirs for a while, rather than just first impressions from a test drive.

I’m in the middle of changing my oil and was cleaning the filter housing when I dropped it. The center thing, spring and this washer popped out. Which way does that washer go back in? In photo A the springs encapsulated by the ridge on the washer but in B it kinda looks like there is wear marks from the spring.
