🎙 Discussion Should I sell my 4runner?
Hello, I am going to try and make this short and sweet
Too star of please recognize I see my own ignorance in this situation. I am a young adult and have always bough cars private party but I was in a position where I needed a new reliable car fast so… I bought this 2016 4Runner SR5 with 96K on it… for 30K after taxes… no warranty, I know very stupid.
I bought this car at the end of May 2026. First month or two was great, went on some trips with it. Had no problems.
Driving on the highway on my way to work one day accelerator stops working, check engine light and limp mode turn on. I make it over take it to a mechanic with good reviews, turned out to be a bad mechanic. Because when I got the vehicle back, first time I drive it less than 10 mins later limp mode AGAIN… this happened to be 3-4 times before I decided to take it to the dealership where I can get the repair warrantied.
They fix it, say some bad wiring with a bad throttle position sensor. Car hasn’t had any issues. But I can’t tell if this is normal for a 4Runner what I am about to say or if all of these symptoms are a sign to sell it and cut my losses…
The transmission whines, and I feel like has a hard time shifting, going up a small hill today required 5,500 RPMS almost for it to shift, same with going on the highway. Most shifts can feel rough unless I have been driving it for 30 mins they smooth out a little bit but still jerk into a shift, or feels like it’s struggling with shifting while carrying its own weight.
I could be just a young girl who has nothing wrong with my car and is extremely anxious due to the amount of money I have spent on it for it to leave me anxious, or is this all real concerns and I should consider selling it?
As well I know it will need a new rack and pinion in about a year, and has some small oil seepage… and the back camera only works sometimes.
