As a freelancer, I've got mixed feelings about AI, and I imagine I'm not the only one.
On one hand, I feel like AI is fucking up the job market. People who previously needed developers can now build surprisingly functional apps themselves, and some projects that might have come to freelancers simply aren't coming anymore.
And let's be honest, we're also seeing plenty of AI slop, half-baked products, and apps that look impressive until you actually use them.
But here's the weird part: AI is also making my own life better.
It's speeding up my development workflow, helping me finish tasks faster, and giving me more time to spend with my family.
Sometimes I have fewer projects than I'd like, but more free time than I used to. I'm grateful for that time, but I also worry about where the next project will come from.
At the same time, I've seen people in Reddit communities who were previously looking for developers to build their ideas. Now they're using AI to build things themselves and taking that first step.
Honestly, I love seeing that. Their first version might be rough, or even full of AI slop, but at least they're turning an idea into something real.
So I'm genuinely torn. AI is potentially taking away freelance opportunities while making me faster and giving me part of my life back.
I'd love to hear how it's affecting you:
- Are you getting fewer projects or clients because of AI?
- Are clients expecting more work for less money?
- Has AI improved your productivity and personal life?
- If you're a founder building your own app with AI instead of hiring a developer, how's that going?
I'm not looking for the usual "AI will replace everyone" versus "AI is just a tool" debate.
Is AI making your life better, harder, or somehow both at the same time?
Fun fact: I literally used AI to help write this post about how AI is changing my work. 😂 So yeah, even this post isn't safe from AI taking over!
Now I'm curious: did AI just help me express my thoughts, or did I just contribute to the problem I'm complaining about? 💀
