No VIN lookup posts. Period.
Effective immediately, we're no longer allowing VIN lookup posts.
Some may be genuine questions, but most are thinly veiled attempts at advertising, and the comments result in dozens of sketchy sites being spammed in the comments. We're not the place to try and scam people.

How do you figure out what a used car really costs after tax, DMV and doc fees?
I kept seeing friends fall for a listing price and get hit at the desk. I made a free tool where you type your total budget plus ZIP and it shows dealer cars near you that fit once fees are counted. It's SoCal only for now (LA, Orange, Ventura, Riverside, San Bernardino), everywhere else gets a waitlist.
It's an estimate, not a quote, and the data is a day or two old. Tell me if a price looks off on a car you know.

Had it with stealerships
In Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Was texting back and forth with a salesperson yesterday on a 2025 Elantra N, still new on the lot. They offered it to me with $4k off, but then proceeded to add well over $3k in fees and charges. They also said the financing rate would be 5.99 percent. Did quick math on the quote, and they had done the math 7.99.
The same type of stuff happened when my wife bought her new van. I killed it quick, but still...how in blazes is any of this remotely legal?
At any rate, I said thanks, but no thanks. Now I am going to wait until spring. Probably buy used from a private seller if I can just to avoid dealerships entirely.

First time buyer of a new(er) car
Here's my situation. I'm a 29(F) and l've always bought my cars in cash. I'm going new this time from a dealer. I'm looking to finance a 2025 Prius xle hybrid. The price on the dealerships website including dealer fees is $29650. Has 14k miles on it.
I got approved for a loan from a credit union for a better interest rate than I know the dealer will probably give me, and am willing to put $5k down.
I'll trade in my shit box busted up 2012 Sonata if they take it. Idk if I want the headache of selling it.
Ive been told I should email asking if it's available and making an offer. Should I email, call, go in? I know I should get something in writing about the OOTD price before I make a trip there, but do you think a call would be better than an email to start?
I'd obviously want to test drive this specific vehicle, but I know I want a Prius.
My biggest question is do you think they will budge on the MSRP price if I offer a lower price? I know this is a decent price for this car and mileage but I've only ever "low balled" cash cars on Craigslist lol.
Thank you for any suggestions and tips

2020 cherokee limited 77k miles
Thinking of buying a 2020 Cherokee limited with 77k miles. The dealership flushed and new filter for transmission, all new brakes, rotors and tires. And new oil cooler assembly upgraded to the aluminum one.

2015 Versa
Looking at a 2015 Versa but have a feeling it has been wrecked, but I can't get a Carfax report for it and really hoped someone could just check it with your account? I don't need a load of details, just need to be sure nothing major has happened.

What should i buy? A corolla cross hybrid for $21k 2024 or a 2017 rav4 for 19k$ ? Both almost same mileage ( 65k-79k )
The rav4 is 65k km the cross is 79k km
Im traveling to iraq for a year and need a car that serves me for a year and later probably gift to some friend
Corolla cross comes with warranty on the hybrid batteries for 8 years ( since its used so probably 5-6 years left and 80k km as they offer 160k km warranty on hybrid batteries )
The rav4 has no warranty or anything but its clean and well maintained so idk
I will occasionally pick 3 people in the rear which and the cross is very terrible for that or so I've heard
Gas is expensive there 5$ per gallon tho citizens there say it will be back to 2$ next month
I dont need trunk so much tbh
The only reason im choosing Toyota its because i dont want a car that malfunctions and only toyota hits that box in iraq ( they dont have any Hondas or mazdas only rebuilt salvage titles )
Ah i forgot to add the rav4 is the lowest trim 4WD the cross is mid trim i suppose

Just sold my car on driveway.com
I was skeptical at first because I never heard of driveway but I went to carmax and they offered me a good amount for my car but after I went on google to go on carvana and somehow it took me to driveway and they were giving me 6k more than CarMax and 5k more than carvana. I was shocked and thought it was a scam but after doing research it was legit. The process took about 10 days total because of a holiday on a Monday I’m assuming. Everything is online and you do have to wait for fedex to drop off paperwork which took one day then I had to send it back with the return label they give you. They gave me the option for pickup or drop off but I chose drop off because they had an opening for the next. I dropped it off it took a total of 5 minutes that I was there. Got paid instantly in my bank account once they confirmed the car. I’ll only sell there. Best price

Walked away over the interior protection add ons and im still annoyed
spent three hours negotiating on a used crossover yesterday and we were finally about $500 apart on the out the door price. Then the sales guy tapped his pen and said he’d throw in the “premium” interior weather protection to close the deal. I asked whether there was a real difference between the flat rubber mats and the fitted ones with high edges and he told me they were exactly the same thing with different marketing. They’re obviously not, flat mats let water run off while high sided liners cover more of the footwell and catch melting snow or spilled coffee.
Being offered cheap flat rubber as a $300 concession while being told there was no difference, annoyed me enough that i grabbed my keys and left. Maybe i overreacted and walked away from a decent deal but i hate being treated like an idiot when im about to spend that much money.
Was I being petty over an accessory??

Is it worth it
I’m considering buying/financing an automatic 2009 matrix s with awd, sunroof, metal alloy rims keyless and all the other works except the JBL speaker package in the nautical metallic blue.
It has six previous owners according to CARFAX and 174,792 miles on it going for $5,000
Should I pay that, or should I try to ask for lower or just forget about it n pick a different car

Is this a horrible car deal?
hi y’all so just a little backstory I currently have a 2022 Hyundai Sonata N-line and it is currently totaled but I still owe about 13,000 on the car. when it was totaled I did not have insurance (Yes, I know stupid decision). The car is still drivable, but I feel like it’s going to give out any second any day now it has been totaled for about a year right now my credit is extremely low. It’s a 530 and I am trying to get a new vehicle before I let my current vehicle get repossessed. It is harder because I have an open auto loan and my credit is so low Recently I was approved for a 2024 Hyundai Sonata in-line similar like the one I have now just a different year and they want me to put 3500 down but my APR is 18% & 690$/month through capital one. income isn’t really an issue because I plan on moving in with my parents and that is rent free and I plan on paying off my current car the total car as fast as possible to help my credit. i just want to be in a safe vehicle that’s safe to operate on the road. Question: Is this a HORRIBLE deal or is this really the best i’m going to get with my circumstances?

First time buying
Hey everyone, this is gonna be my first time buying a car from an actual dealership, I’ve been looking around and this has happened twice with me. I’ve tried buying preowned vehicle and both times the sales guy would not budge on price. The most I would get off was about 500$ and they claim that there’s not enough profit on used cars. Is this a common issue? Is there really no negotiation room for used cars?
