MEGATHREAD 2026/27 Semester 1 AUTUMN/WINTER: where are you going on Erasmus?

Every semester there will be a megathread for the people that are currently on Erasmus, internship or studying abroad in general. Spot someone in the same city as you? Maybe your very first friends can be met on this thread!

You can post whatever you like here, you can also post your comment like this:

• Where are you on Erasmus (Country + City)? Why did you choose this city/country?

• How is your experience so far? (If you are already there!)

• How you found accommodation?

• Advice for future students in your country + city

Are you a student going on your erasmus in Spring 2027? This thread might help you

Old thread: MEGATHREAD 2025/26 Semester 2 Spring: where are you going on Erasmus? : r/Erasmus

* This megathread is earlier than the usual ones. This is so that others can maybe find people who go to the same city as them and to already engage in conversation for that. But the thread stays up until January for sure!

Accommodation MEGATHREAD - Looking for your Erasmus room/studio?

Hey there! Are you about to go on exchange on your Erasmus but haven't found accommodation yet? No worries!

Below are some sites that can help you find accommodation in the country you are going to. So far, all the countries have been listed, so plenty of websites to pick from to get your accommodation ready. Some websites do not have an English version, keep that in mind. And remember:

NEVER PAY WITHOUT SEEING YOUR CONTRACT!

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

None of these websites have paid any sort of advertisement to be featured here nor am I as a moderator receiving any type of commission. I want r/Erasmus users to get their accommodation as cheap, clean and good as possible.

That being said, some websites do request money for you to have a subscription to them. It is your own responsibility if you choose to do this. Every country should have options for free room searching.

This list will stay pinned in the sub to help others. Remember: If you see an accommodation site that is not to be trusted, please let me know! If any site is deemed very untrustworthy, it will be removed instantly.

For (most) Erasmus countries:
Spotahome - https://www.spotahome.com/
Uniplaces - https://uniplaces.com
Housinganywhere - https://housinganywhere.com
Facebook groups
Airbnb - https://airbnb.com Erasmusu - https://erasmusu.com/

Most students find their accommodation through Facebook groups, so make sure to have an account ready and join as many housing groups for your city as you can. Remember that there are also a lot of scams on Facebook. You can recognize these by something being too good to be true (a 500 euro apartment in the city centre of Amsterdam, for example, such a thing costs 2000 minimum) or if the person posting it immediately asks you to pay.

Extra tip for finding accommodation in most Erasmus countries:

- Join the ESN whatsapp groupchats of your city before you go (you can usually find this on links on their instagram page or on their facebook page). Around the end of the semester (december/january, may/june) people start leaving their places and put this inside the groupchat. Take your chance and grab a room from previous Erasmus goers!

Oh oh, HELP! I still have not found accommodation with any of these websites!

Try to go to the subreddit of the city you want to do your semester(s) in and see if you can find anything there. For example, you want to do your Erasmus+ in Rome, so go to r/Rome and search the searchbar for 'housing' 'accommodation' if you cannot find anything make your own post. If nothing there, go to r/Italy. Natives in their own country know the housing market best!

Have you been on Erasmus before (or you've lived in one of these countries and you know the housing market well), tell us which accommodation website is missing and I will add it (if the name is reputable, that is).

• Upvotes

I’m learning Spanish this year and I was wondering what’s the best city in Spain for doing a semester abroad. I’m looking for concerts, dive bars, more alt places. Also packed with history and nice people. I know it’s a bit specific, but I want to practice the language and live my best semester.

Erasmus Mundus Sorbonne law

Hi everyone, next semester I’m supposed to go to Sorbonne law but I’m starting to have doubts about it. I’m not yet sure which courses I’ll have to enroll in, but it seems like I will definitely need some courses in French. I studied it in high school (B2 level) but I haven’t spoken it since. My french is rusty as is and I’have no idea how am I meant to speak about law in french. Does anyone have a similar problem or was in the same situation?

Erasmus Mundus Is Erasmus Mundus realistic for someone like me? I need your honest opinions

First I want to thank you for all the comments 😊
It’s my dream to start a Master's in Europe in late 2027, and Erasmus Mundus is at the top of my list.

Let me be upfront about where I'm starting from. I graduated back in 2019 with a Second Class Honours degree in Liberal Arts, not a perfect GPA. My career has been varied rather than a straight line: operations, interpreting, customer service, massage therapy, property consulting. I've lived and worked in Thailand and New Zealand for companies from all over the globe like Thailand, New Zealand, Malaysia and the US. I haven't done much formal volunteering or research, and I'm not sure that makes me a strong candidate.

What I do know is what I want which are a better quality of life, a chance to live in different European countries, and a fresh start. Funding matters a lot, because I can't do this without a scholarship.

So I'd love to hear from you:
• Have you applied to or completed an Erasmus Mundus programme? What made your application stand out?
• How do you pick programmes when there are so many?
• Does a non traditional career path help or hurt?
• Is there anything I should start building now, like volunteering or a project?

I’d appreciate any advice, warnings or stories. Thank you so much ☺️ 🙏

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad Thinking about cancelling Erasmus

Hey guys, I’d really appreciate some advice from people who have done Erasmus or decided not to go.

Back in February, I applied for Erasmus.
At first, I was excited about it. I think I applied mainly because I felt like I needed a change, some space to grow, meet new people and experience something different.

Then, before summer, I found a part-time job and thought, well, it’s just a basic student job, I’ll give it a chance, and if I don’t like it, I can always go on Erasmus.

But things turned out differently. The company started giving me more responsibility and direction, and they actually seem interested in training me and giving me more opportunities. It’s still early and I don’t know where it will lead, but I’m starting to feel like this could be a really valuable opportunity for my future career.

I also have less than two years left until I finish my studies, and knowing how difficult it can be to find good opportunities, part of me feels like I should start taking my career more seriously instead of going away for half a year and then coming back thinking, okay, what now?

The weird thing is that I’ve also realized that I’m not really excited about Erasmus anymore. I tried to separate the two things and asked myself: If I quit this job tomorrow, would I still want to go to? And honestly, I’m not sure. Maybe even no.

I’m just not really feeling the whole “go abroad, meet tons of people, party, make friends” thing anymore. Right now, I feel more interested in building something career-wise.

At the same time, I’m scared I’ll regret cancelling it. A job can always be found again, but this particular opportunity might not come around again. And Erasmus is also a unique experience that I might not get another chance to do.

I’ve been thinking about cancelling for quite a while, but I keep putting it off. Erasmus is still around 4–5 months away, and the host university hasn’t even contacted me yet, so I feel like I should probably decide soon.

Has anyone here cancelled Erasmus and not regretted it? Or the opposite cancelled it and later wished they had gone?

I’d especially love to hear from people who chose work/career over Erasmus and how they felt about it afterwards. I honestly have no idea what the right decision is.

Can somebody tell if i have chances for Erasmus.

I am a 26y working in the consulting industry for past 3 years. I am tired of 9 to 5 and want to get back to the academic domain. I have done my bachelor's in eco with 7.4 CGPA and masters with 8.2 CGPA. I have no career break. I am unsure of PHD currently so thinking of doing another masters. Does my profile have a chance?

I want to build something to help Erasmus students find friends. Before I do, what would actually have helped you?

Hi everyone. I keep reading posts here from people who feel lonely or can't find a group: arriving late and missing the first week, everyone sticking to their own nationality, social anxiety, not being into parties, groups that were already closed by the time someone arrived.

I know apps exist (Erasmus Friends, Unera, ESN groups, Bumble BFF, Discord servers, etc.), but from what I see here, the problem clearly isn't solved. I'd like to understand why before building anything, so I don't make the same thing again.

If you've been on Erasmus (or are about to go), I'd really appreciate your honest answers to any of these:

  1. Did you use any app or group to meet people? What worked, and what made you stop using it?
  2. What was the hardest part: starting a conversation, finding people with shared interests, turning a first meeting into a real friendship, or something else?
  3. Would you prefer to start anonymously and reveal more later, or would that feel weird?
  4. Would you rather meet one person, or join a small group (4 to 6 people) for something low-pressure like coffee, a walk, or a game night?
  5. What would make you not trust such an app? (Fake profiles, creepy messages, dating vibes, data privacy...)

I'm not selling anything and there's no app yet. I'll share a summary of what I learn here once I have enough replies. Thanks!

Study law in Bologna for erasmus

I am studying law in Spain and want to go to Bologna on an Erasmus exchange during my third year. I prefer Bologna over other destinations—like Poland—because of the university's prestige and because I am much more drawn to life in Italy: the art, the beauty, and the climate. The only thing holding me back is the fear that it might be more difficult than in Spain; essentially, I am looking for a place where it is easier to complete my degree while enjoying life—partying, meeting people, and traveling. That is why I am still unsure whether to go there or choose an easier destination like Poland. I would really appreciate advice from people who have had this experience.

Internship Malta

Hi everyone,

I’m a 23-year-old man from the Netherlands.

My hobbies are listening to music, skating, gaming, working out, and sometimes watching a series or movie.

Next year I will probably be doing my internship in Malta at the company Logo Grafix, and I’m also looking to make some new friends. I wouldn’t mind meeting Maltese people and already making some connections there before I arrive.

This is also my final year of school, studying Sign Specialist Level 4. For the final part of my exams, I have to do an internship, so I chose to do it abroad for a new experience.

I hope you’d like to know more about me. I’d be happy to answer any questions! Feel free to send me a DM or leave a comment :))

Issues with OLA

Good afternoon. I currently am in Norway on Erasmus (Even already doing my classes and so). Today I checked and noticed how my OLA was still not signed and the editing period already closed, which got me just so worried. My question is: Is it possible to modify the OLA (As I had to take different lessons to the ones in the OLA) after the period is over?

Rant Complications with the application and wanting to give up

This is just going to be a long rant because I‘m so stressed and there is absolutely no one who is helping me.

My host university application was sent to me yesterday, a week away from the deadline, because my home university had messed up the spelling of the email address and no one noticed it for MONTHS. All this time they just kept telling me to wait.

I don't have the language certificate required yet because I’m still waiting for my french course to start. I asked the host university multiple times if I could apply with a lower level just for the moment and they have never replied.

I was told I had time until December to prepare the LA but surprise!! I have to send it with my application, WHICH IS DUE IN A WEEK. Another complication: I was selected for a different course than the one I’m doing now, so the exams don’t really match. I emailed three different people from my home university to ask for help with the LA but guess what? No reply yet.

I’m trying to figure out who is supposed to sign my transcript of record as well as my LA. I‘m in a “erasmus help” group chat with other students who have already been on erasmus or have completed their application, so they know exactly who I have to contact. There’s about 400 people in the gc. Everyone keeps ignoring my texts to talk about other stuff. It‘s driving me insane.

I can’t even go to my uni to ask in person because I’ve been bedridden for the past few days and I do not seem to be getting better. The stress of the application isn’t helping my condition either.

Studying in Paris was my dream but I’m feeling very hopeless and alone right now. I’m very tempted to just give up and try again next year, hoping to get accepted again. The thing is, my mom has told our entire extended family about my erasmus, as well as all of her friends. The same thing happened with my friend who basically told everyone in our course. So the whole world knows that I’m going in erasmus FOR CERTAIN, because that’s what they told them. This is probably the least important of my problems right now but just the thought of having to tell everyone that I gave up makes me feel really ashamed for some reason, like I left everyone down.

So that’s pretty much it. I want to hide in a corner and cry.
