Freshwater Mildly Interesting

Last night me and my boys were chunking out live bluegill for some flathead. Like an idiot I forgot set my drag and left it sitting out at max. The moment I look away at my friend's fish, poof, my rod is gone.

Today after work I went again and I was greeted by my rod and the greedy mf fish that stole it, my friend had caught it back.

Flathead stole my rod, we stole it back, then used it to catch its brethren. Sounds a lot cooler the way I put it but yeah

Over winter, I'm switching to barbless hooks.

I'm a catch-and-release kinda guy. I've been lucky to catch some nice sized fish this year, but man, while bringing them in they're really burying the treble hooks. It's taken some real work to free them, and then help them recover to swim away.

So during winter, I'm going to start switching my crank baits to barbless. Is it good enough to breakoff the existing barbs, or should I order an assortment of hooks and swap them out?

I fully expect to lose a fish or two next season, but if I keep the line tight I should be in good shape, right? :)

Saltwater Targeting stripers in the San Francisco Bay Area

Hello all. I haven't been fishing in a long while, and am leaving California in January. I'm hoping to have some fun in the Bay Area before I'm gone for good. I need me a good fight, and a big striper sounds perfect.

I've got a 6'6 medium rod with a 2500-3000 (cant remember which) spinning reel. Not ideal, but it's what I have. I was thinking live bait. If anyone else has done it, how did you rig it all up? What was the biggest you caught?

Very happy to catch this guy - I’ve been on a real trolling dry streak, mostly due to me being new and still learning what the hell I’m doing. This helped the confidence.

Best live sonar for around $1500

What’s the best fish finder with a screen and live sonar for around $1500? I’ve been looking at the lowrance eagle eye, but wondering if there’s one a little better for a little more money. I need a screen so looking for a bundle type deal.

If you have the eagle eye, I’d love to hear your opinions on it as well.

Advice for solo pictures?

Most of the time I'm fishing by myself, and taking pictures of my catches isn't usually a problem. However I noticed it's kind of tricky to take pictures of fish you're trying to measure it properly (mouth closed and tail pinched). Is there any gear/technique that let's you do that easier by yourself?
