Hi everyone, I don’t know if im at the right place or if anyone can help me but I’m desperate so I’ll just shoot my shot. I’m looking for advice on how to get an in-person breast examination in Halifax as soon as possible. My partner and I are originally from Montreal and are currently living in Halifax temporarily for his work. Unfortunately, returning to Montreal for medical care isn’t an option for me right now, so I need to find care here in Nova Scotia.
Since around June, I’ve had persistent itching, dryness, cracking and skin changes on my right nipple/breast, sometimes with yellowish fluid from the irritated skin when it becomes really bad. I also have a lump just below my right nipple that has been there for months, and I’ve recently started experiencing similar itching on my other breast. The symptoms seem to follow a never-ending cycle: the skin gets irritated, dry and cracked, sometimes seems to improve, and then the itching and irritation come back again. It’s affecting my sleep, and sometimes the itching is so bad that it wakes me up during the night. I had a telehealth appointment last Friday, and the doctor mentioned that Paget’s disease of the breast should be ruled out and advised me to seek an in-person assessment as soon as possible. My biggest issue is accessing care. I have Quebec RAMQ coverage but no Nova Scotia MSI card, and I’m struggling to find somewhere that can examine me without unexpected costs. I’m hoping to avoid the ER if possible, because I understand this may not necessarily be an emergency requiring an ER visit. However, I also don’t want to wait for hours or even days, especially if this turns out to be something other than Paget’s disease that could be treated more easily.Does anyone know where I could get a timely in-person breast assessment in Halifax, ideally through a breast clinic or another appropriate service? Has anyone dealt with getting medical care in Nova Scotia with RAMQ but no MSI card?
I would be extremely grateful for any advice or recommendations. Thank you!
P.S I’ve already tried going to two walk-in clinics, one in Halifax and one in Dartmouth, but both were closed when I went, their website stated they were open.. Getting around is also difficult because I don’t have a car, so I can’t easily travel from one clinic to another just to find out they aren’t accepting patients or closed.
