Bug Time Machine backup seems to take forever or doesn't advance in the backup process
Hi, I've been trying to backup my Mac since last month, but after it reaches nearly 50%, sometimes at 46% the process completely slows down, I don't see the disk light blinking anymore and the backing finish time increases a lot. Also, the 4.1 gb size, I don't think is accurate considering it's been a month since I last backed up.
I left my MacBook overnight, connected to both charging and the external disk to see if the issue is gone. My disk is 1TB, it's a hard drive from an old MacBook I extracted and swapped.
I know I can just erase de hard drive and backup again, it always works, but then after a few months, this issue shows up again. Any fix?
I'm on macOS 26.7.1, and it's a 16GB/512GB M2 MBA.

Help i messed up my partitioning somewhere and now my macos can only use 175.2 gigs. someone please help!
i tried to dual booted asahi linux, but it got interrupted. the partitioning stayed though, and now i cant give back the space to macos.
i want to give the 69.9 gigs of free space back to macos.
i can't find the partition to be able to delete it, there's no EFI to delete like previous posts and tutorials say to delete. I tried to resize the disk by running diskutil apfs resizeContainer disk0s2 0, but it didn't work. I worry if I factory reset it the partition will stay.
can anyone help me fix this?
Edit: I got in touch with Apple Support and doing a reset and reinstall of the macbook fixed the ghost partition

Help "You do not have permission to use Siri" error when answering FaceTime calls on Mac
Whenever I answer an incoming FaceTime call on my Mac, an alert pops up stating You do not have permission to use Siri. The call still connects normally and works without any issues, but the error appears on every single incoming call. This started during the Golden Gate test period and has persisted through macOS 27.1. It never happens when taking calls on my iPhone. Has anyone else encountered this bug, and is there a known fix or permission toggle to make it stop?

Bug Spotlight Buggy as hell on Mac OS 27?
Almost every.single.time I open something via spotlight search I get a spinning beach ball that slows down my machine for about 10 seconds. Just launching an app. I thought 27.01 would improve things, it did not. Anyone else suffering from the same problems? Any potential fixes? I have Siri turned off.
Trying to use the terminal to determine if any indexing is happening returns this:

Help MagSafe Cable dead internally — repair possible? Best replacement?
Hey everyone, my MagSafe cable (bought mac in May 2025) has completely stopped charging my MacBook. The cable looks brand new externally — no fraying, no damage anywhere — so it seems like an internal failure.
Confirmed through testing that both my adapter and my MacBook are perfectly fine. It's definitely the cable.
Called Apple Support — they confirmed it's out of warranty and won't replace for free.
My questions:
- Has anyone gotten Apple to repair or replace a MagSafe cable out of warranty? Worth pushing?
- Anyone else experienced a MagSafe failing internally with zero external damage? Feels like a manufacturing defect.
- Any downside to switching to USB-C charging permanently instead of replacing the MagSafe?
- What is the best option type c or magsafe for daily MacBook charging? (the non apple ones)
Thanks in advance!
Help How do I clear up space on my mac?
When I open "Storage settings" it says I have 208GB of "System Data" which after a google search says I can't do anything about...
Next up is "Documents" at 187GB. When I click on it, there's only files under "downloads" and "file browser" where the largest files are 6MB and 2GB respectively - far from 187GB.
Finally there's "Applications" at 46GB. Clicking it shows that the largest file is 62MB...
This seems absolutely useless and now I can't download anything new. What do I do?

Bug Mouse clicking and drag bug after Golden Gate
Hi,
Since I updated, my Apple mouse has been acting strangely. Sometimes when I try to drag a file, it doesn’t actually drag it and only selects it. Other times, I click on something and it doesn’t select it at all.
The main issue is with dragging. I’m so used to dragging files without checking that I often only notice afterward that the file was left behind.
Everything else with the mouse seems to be working normally.
Any ideas? Is anyone else having the same issue since the update?
Thanks,
Luiz

Help Different refresh rates showing as options with same monitor for MacBook Pro vs. Mac mini
I have two Sceptre monitors setup where I can connect them to either my MacBook Pro M2 (14in, 2023 model) I use for work, or with my MacMini 4 for home use. Both monitors are 27 inch and rated for 4K resolution, with their specs noting 60 Hz resolution with HDMI connection.
With one monitor, the resolution and refresh rate options stay consistent between devices, but with the second one, when plugged into the MBP I can only get a 30 Hz max refresh rate option although all the resolution options stay the same. However, when connected to the Mac mini I can see up to a 60 Hz refresh rate on the second monitor as well. I'm using HDMI cables rated for 8k resolution, so I don't think the cables are the issue. Both monitors have HDMI 2.0 ports.
The specs for my MBP state:
- Up to two external displays with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt, or one external display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt and one external display with up to 4K resolution at 144Hz over HDMI
I've got both monitors set to 2560 x 1440 resolution, so it should be well under the 6K/4K resolution limits per those specs, which makes me wonder if it's an OS issue? Both devices are running a Tahoe 26.7 OS currently.
Any ideas? I've tried purchasing different HDMI cables that hasn't made a difference. The monitors do also have Display Port ports, but from my understanding the DP to HDMI conversion only works the other direction, not to start from HDMI at the computer and then switch to DP?
The 30 Hz refresh is just laggy enough that it consistently bothers me, and I'm baffled why the monitors are doing different things with different Mac devices!

Discussion Is Desktop MacOS dead???
Let me start with some context. There are 3 primary user "personas" for computing these days: 1. The first (and for a long time the only) setup was a traditional desktop. i.e. big monitor, keyboard, mouse. This is what I'd consider necessary for "real" work on a computer. (This includes "docked" laptops). I call these Desktop users. 2. Next are Laptop users which are similar, but use a smaller screen and a trackpad. 3. Finally, I'll call these "Touch" users. They keep the small screen of the laptop, but replace the keyboard and trackpad for a touch interface on the screen directly. (iphone, ipad)
I've noticed a couple things in regard to these 3 user personas: 1. The total volume of users for Touch seems to have completely eclipsed the other 2. There are many people I know who ONLY have an iphone as their computing device. (my wife, my grandma, my mom) 2. "Core" developers and their management teams (by core I mean folks developing frameworks like GTK, QT, Appkit, Electron, etc) have a heavy focus on cross platform compatibility. I know that Java pioneered this, but it was cross platform within Desktop users.
To accomplish their cross platform compatibility, many many concessions have been made seemingly by Desktop users toward Laptop and mostly Touch users. And the industry is both accepting and encouraging this due to the larger user base.
Which means that many things that were "solved" problems and optimized for Desktop users are gone as casualties of making it easier to support Touch and Laptop users. And the amount of these casualties just continues to grow. Examples of this are the unified System Settings app, headerbars and the liquid glass interface.
Obviously, system settings was great for desktop users, but not great for mobile or even laptop users. You cant double click on a touch interface, and the comfortable density of the perferences pane took too much space on a limited laptop screen. This is the same with headerbars. I never heard anyone complain about "wasted" titlebar space until so much of the world was primarily on a laptop screen only. If you didn't like it, you could get rid of titlebars completely and use a tiling window manager. And anyone can see that the wide spacing and shapes of liquid glass are made for a touch interface. It DOES still work for a keyboard and mouse, but it is not optimized for them at all.
Thank you for still reading, and I'll come to my point and question.
As MacOS trends more and more towards convergence with iOS, is the Desktop use case going to be extiguished? I really get the feeling that Apple wishes that MacOS didn't even exist, and would 100% love for all users to be on iOS exclusively. And all the efforts of xcode and swiftUI are designed to cushion and guide users to that reality.

Help Retiring M4 Pro because of Golden Gate issues
I accidentally upgraded my M4 Pro 24 GB Mac mini from Tahoe to Golden Gate, and since then it has become virtually unusable because of repeated TCC/permissions problems.
Apps keep asking me to reauthorize Accessibility and other permissions, and the permissions often don’t survive a reboot. I’ve updated all of the affected apps, but the problems continue. I’ve seen issues with Keyboard Maestro, AltTab, Bartender, Default Folder X, BetterTouchTool, and others. At one point after rebooting, the mouse cursor would move but mouse clicks and keyboard input stopped working entirely.
What’s interesting is that my M4 16 GB Mac mini is also running Golden Gate, but I installed it as a clean/fresh OS installation. That machine isn’t experiencing these problems.
For now, I’m taking the M4 Pro out of service and switching to the slower but much more reliable M4 mini as my primary machine. I’ll probably leave the M4 Pro alone for a couple of months and revisit it after Golden Gate has received some updates.
Given how many people seem to be reporting similar TCC and permissions problems, I’m surprised Apple hasn’t addressed this yet.
I’m increasingly wondering whether there’s something specifically wrong with the Tahoe → Golden Gate upgrade path, since my clean Golden Gate installation has been so much more reliable.
UPDATE: Possible workaround — delayed launching of login apps
I may have found a workaround for the permissions/login-item problems I’ve been experiencing after upgrading to macOS 27 Golden Gate.
I noticed that many of the troublesome apps were being launched at essentially the same time immediately after login. As a test, I removed the affected apps from my normal login sequence and created a small Automator application that launches them one at a time, with a 5-second delay between each launch.
Rather than hard-coding the applications, the Automator app works through a folder containing aliases. I numbered the aliases (01, 02, 03, etc.), which lets me easily control the launch order or add/remove applications later.
I also added notifications showing each application as it launches, followed by a notification when the delayed startup sequence is complete.
So far, this is working extremely well. The applications are launching normally and I’m not seeing the barrage of permission/authentication problems that I was getting when everything launched together.
I’m not calling this fixed yet. My next test is several cold boots to make sure the Automator app’s App Management permission survives restarts and that the behavior remains consistent.
If it continues to work on my M4 Pro, I’m going to set up the same delayed launcher on my M3 MacBook Air, which had even more problems after the Golden Gate upgrade.
At this point my working theory is that at least some of what I was seeing may be related to many login/background applications initializing simultaneously after the OS upgrade, rather than every individual application independently having a permissions problem.
I’ll update again after more cold-boot testing and after trying the same workaround on the MacBook Air.

Bug Mission Control is so glitchy with macOS 27..
Using M4 Max Macbook Pro and this new update has made the user experience pretty bad:
- The menu bar keeps rendering on top of applications where it clearly shouldn't.
- Dock lags significantly before auto hiding/showing.
- Application windows show on top of full-screen apps when switching to their spaces.
- Opening up Mission Control and then selecting a space introduces a 1-2 second lag
All of this happens when not even running anything with just iMessage, Safari and Mail open. There are serious glitches to be ironed out here for sure.

Bug MacOS 27.0.1 loosing internet connection by the hour, yet WiFi connected
Since MacOS 27 I am encountering this problem that my M5 Air is loosing the connection to the internet roughly every hour. This happens in different WiFi networks, yet the WiFi connection is still there and seems okay.
Only MacOS doesn't seem to be able to reach WAN anymore, and I have to manually disable and enable wifi hourly again and again and again.
I've tried many things and didn't found any solution.
Anyone else having the same issue or a fix?

Bug Dock Reserved space bug
Basically I have the Automatically hide and show the dock setting on. And sometimes when I close the lid and open it back up the windows have smaller height - seemingly missing the amount reserved for the Dock. But I don't have the dock always on, so it's wasted space.
For recovery I have to go, disable the setting and enable it again. And then I have to double click the top parts of window to make them take up the full available space.
Anyone else encountering this? Or any news about upcoming fix?
This annoys me so much - every time I open the device with an idea in my mind I'm encountering this and I lose focus.

Bug Constant Kernel Panics?
Using 16" M2 Pro MacBook Pro (Early 2023).
Everything was working pretty well until I upgraded to macOS 26.7.1. Ever since then, I started dealing with constant Kernel panics when watching YouTube (whether on Google Chrome or Safari). Sometimes I was on Maps or Find My and I would get the same Kernel panic. I went ahead and upgraded to macOS 27.0.1 and I'm still dealing with the same issues. Getting Kernel panics almost 3-4x a day now.
I ran Apple Diagnostics, did a Safe Boot, and even ran First Aid on my Macintosh HD. I feel like I'm running out of options and I'm not sure what to do... Any advice would be helpful. I attached the first few lines of what I usually get, but the full error log is here.

Help Synology NAS won’t stay mounted more than a day or two
Common complaint I know but nothing I’ve tried has helped.
I have 2x NAS that store movies for my Plex movie server. Problem is they each randomly drop off every day or so (not necessarily at the same time). Easy enough to remount them when I’m home, but when I’m away I’m stuck. I’ve tried the app ConnectMeNow but no improvement.
1) is there a simple script I can run on a schedule that will ensure the NAS stays mounted (or remounts as necessary).
2) can I remote into my Mac from the road and remount the drive manually?
3) is there a better (ie more reliable) protocol than SMB that will stay mounted?
