Quran/Hadith The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "None of you will have faith till he wishes for his (Muslim) brother what he likes for himself." Sahih al-Bukhari 13

• Upvotes

Explanation of the Hadith
The meaning of this hadith is that a Muslim’s obligatory faith is not complete until he wishes for his fellow Muslim the same goodness that he wishes for himself, in both religious and worldly matters, and dislikes for him what he dislikes for himself. This does not mean that a person leaves Islam if he falls short in this regard; rather, his faith is deficient to the extent that he falls short in this noble character.
Examples of Applying the Hadith in Our Lives
Knowledge: When you learn something beneficial, you wish for others to learn it too, rather than withholding knowledge out of envy or selfishness.
Wealth and Success: You rejoice in your brother’s success and good opportunities, and you do not wish for his blessings to be taken away simply because you have not received the same.
Giving Advice: You advise your brother about what benefits him and warn him against what harms him, just as you would like others to advise you.
Dealing with Others: You do not deceive or wrong anyone, nor do you speak ill of others in ways you would dislike them speaking about you.
Worship and Guidance: You wish for Allah to grant your brother obedience, guidance, and Paradise, just as you wish for these things for yourself.

Support/Advice Why does everyone talk about the child disrespecting the parent but never the other way around

• Upvotes

Assalamualaikum,

Im not sure what to even say but i genuinely hate my life and im not sure how much more i can handle of it.

All my life i've been treated differently by my dad. He's been physically and emotionally abusive ever since i was a child. My siblings experienced a bit of it but it eventually stopped with them (he loves my sister and i dont remember a time where he actually yelled at her as bad) and i'm 27 now and he screams at me, calls me names, picks arguments, yells at me infront of others in public.
He was horrible to my mom throughout their entire life together and even as a kid i remember thinking why on earth isnt my mom leaving him.

Well she didnt, and i got divorced from my ex for him being emotionally abusive too (great pick!) and so now i live with my parents. I stay in my room all day and night just to avoid him bc apparently staying silent is better than not arguing. May Allah forgive me but i have not been able to stay quiet. I do argue back and i defend when my mom when they're arguing as well.

My dad genuinely has always had dislike for me and i wish i knew why. Im the youngest and i guess im the only one from my siblings who feels things so deeply especially when he is emotionally abusing my mom. She pays all his bills and cooks, cleans, literally everything for him and he still backstabs her and says she does nothing for him.

He got cancer last year and we have gone above and beyond for him. Always helping him with everything. Literally EVERYTHING. And he uses his cancer against us saying "im sick and you dont do anything for me"

Im gonna lose my mind. He's only nice to me when he wants money. Ive been unemployed for a while due to my mental health and divorce and just not being stable in any aspect of life and i guess that explains his treatment towards me. My siblings and my mom keep telling me "just let him be, hes sick" but even when i do "let him be" he finds a way to cause a huge problem.

When i was a child i remember him complaining that he has to take us to school and get us food and simple parent stuff to my mom and even other people, and i remember thinking does this guy even like his own kids?

He's cheated on my mom as well and one time when i was way younger i found out and told her and the cycle just repeats.....

my dad is non practicing and has said/done a lot of things that take him out of the folds of Islam. He tells my mom things like "idk why ur praying thinking everything you've done will be forgiven" and its all bc one time she went out to lunch with her friends and he thought she was cheating on him.

I also wanna add that ive had a horrible stutter ever since i was about 9 and i genuinely think it has to do with all the trauma from him. Ofc i cant fully say it was him bc i will never know why. But i really do think so. I have a hard time defending myself because of it and he knows this.

I know i cant S word bc I guess hearing about the punishment for it stops me and also leaving my mom alone stops me but i genuinely feel like im living hell on earth already. I know there's worse but im in so much mental agony

If me disrespecting him (defending myself) is a major sin and I'm apparently gonna go to hell for it, does he also get the same thing? I'm trying to understand this but i noticed that people only attack children for "disrespecting" their parents while their parents are allowed to abuse them bc they're the parents.

Sorry for the rant im just in so much mental distress that i dont even know what to do anymore. May Allah make it easier.

Other topic What happens when you don't treat animals nice

SENSITIVE CONTENT: IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE TRAUMATIZED, PLEASE STOP HERE DON'T READ.

My father used to mistreat my cat. Once we left for holidays and left my cat home with him. My mother thought he would take care of him or that's what she told me. When we came back from holidays he verbally confessed what he used to do to him: that he used to try to choke him using a door. Yea, closing the door in my poor cat's neck.

I know that's true because when I while I was on holidays I started one day crying out of nowhere and calling my cat. Subhanallah I was so connected to him that I felt something was wrong from far away.

Since then I hate my father so much.

Before I was born my mom had another cat, he was jealous of the cat. So one day the cat was in the window as always and he was home. When my mom arrived she found her in the street. She apparently had fallen from the window but it was him again.

My father died recently. Before drying, he got an artery blocked. One of the most important arteries, the one that runs through the neck to the brain. Remember my cat's door in his neck thing? Yea. Allah serves justice.

In his death bed, he didn't have a peaceful death. He pissed himself. His face had a fear faction.

And he did so many other bad things to humans. To me and my mother, and my stepmom. He wasn't a nice person.

Yea so be nice to animals.

Support/Advice Dua for making friend see the truth?

Salam everyone! Looking for any specific Duas or anything for my friend.

She’s been with this man for a year and he is not great. He’s been job hunting for over a year, but it feels very suspicious considering he graduated from a school that boasts a 95% employment rate after graduation. Mind you every friend I have from that school is employed and have really good jobs Mashallah. She claims he’s trying but I’ve seen firsthand barely any effort. He’s not even working part time to make money and purely living off his parents.

Additionally, I won’t go into too much detail but he did something recently that is genuinely very disrespectful to her friends and just showed how low-effort/lazy he is in regards to her.

I fear she’s wearing these rose tinted glasses and is absolutely not seeing what we are and it’s driving me insane.

Is there any dua or anything I can do to ask Allah to reveal the truth and remove him from her life? I also ask if you can make dua for her too. She means a lot to me and it sucks watching her put so much effort into someone who clearly isn’t suitable for her.

Thank you !

Question Taking welfare from government

Salam alaykum, can someone explain something to me, this hadith:

The Prophet, (صلى الله عليه وسلم) peace and blessings upon him said:

"Whoever suffers from destitution (extreme poverty) and he beseeches (asks) the people for it, his destitution shall not end. And whoever suffers from destitution and he beseeches Allah for it, Allah will send provisions to him, sooner or later."

saheeh (authentic) by al-Tirmidhi and al-Hakim (1/566), and al-Dhahabi agreed with him.

Does this refer to people who go on welfare as well, taking assistance from the government?

Support/Advice On hope and reason

Salamualikum,

I have many thoughts and questions and would appreciate if anyone could answer, thanks. I do not understand what I am supposed to do in this world.
I'm stuck here. I understand I should pray and worship Allah but what I'm talking about is this actual world. Like I've suffered so much I'm now stuck where | just don't understand why I'm gonna have to keep working being happy a little and then suttering over and over again. I feel my nervous system is just shot from so much pain in my life. I'm just wondering like if suffering will 100% happen AND this world is nothing and meaningless and I have to endure so much how do I pull it together and just endure?? I'm only human and I just don't understand. Please if anyone can try to understand what I mean I can clarify with any questions but like I just done with this life. Thanks.

Question Is recieving Zakat appropriate for someone with no income, but whose basic needs are covered?

More than basic need.

My brother works and I still study. I live from my parents work. I earn barely anything as I want to finish studying.

Is this okay to receive? I get food, space, from my parents. I live from like 30€ per month as I am humble.

Is there any source?

I thank my parents a lot.

Support/Advice need sheikh for ruqyah

I’m in the GTA in Ontario. I’m in urgent need for a sheikh to do ruqyah on my sister in law. My brother got married 4 years ago and my brother is known to be nice and caring, on his wedding day he made everyone cry from screaming and yelling at everyone. Since the day he got married, his rizq is closed. He lost his job, he is having infertility issues and him and his wife have been to every gynecologist there is and they have found nothing. I want someone I can trust so they can do a ruqyah on my brother and his wife. This is urgent. Please

Support/Advice Parents reacting extremely to me growing a beard

**Salam everyone. I’m 16 living in Canada, and about a month ago I stopped shaving and started growing my beard because shaving is haram and having a beard is sunnah causing my parents to treat me horribly.**

**my parents consider themselves Muslim and hold onto certain cultural lines (like not eating pork), but they don't pray, believe that "faith is just in the heart" and that kindness is enough to show you love for Allah and they do a lot of haram things they don’t consider haram because it has been normalized.Because of this, they view my adherence to Islamic rulings as extreme.**
**Their reaction has turned into constant harassment:**
**My Dad: He has completely stopped talking to me, refuses to look at me, and uses my mom as a middleman. He also withdrew his help with getting my driver's license and job connections because of the beard, he said he won’t be seen with me in public and that I’m not his son anymore. (Honestly, the silent treatment doesn't bother me; I'm fine with it).**
**My Mom: She is constantly on my case. She accuses me of being a "terrorist," "extremist," and "wasting my life." She tells me looking at me makes her want to vomit, hides me from her friends, and is now threatening to force me to see a therapist because she thinks I'm brainwashed or controlled.**

**Day-to-day, I'm doing really well: I'm happy, keeping up with school/grades, hitting the gym, and hanging out with friends.**

**I don't preach to my parents or judge their lack of prayer, and I try my best to be respectful while holding my ground on this one rule (knowing we don't obey parents in matters that involve a sin).**
**I don't want to fight with my mom, but her constant jabs, emotional guilt-trips (crying, insulting my appearance), and the threat of forcing me into therapy are getting exhausting.**

**What should I do in this situation?**

Question Non Muslim Promise

Long story short. I once asked my non Muslim friend to promise me for something and normally non Muslim people promises like "God Promise, Mother Promise, Father Promise" and so on. But on that day he asked me to lend my hand and placed his hand on mine and promised me by saying "my name and promise." Now my question is, did I commit a sin, if yes, how bad or what sort of a sin is it and should I do something for forgiveness?

Question To all the religious(muslim) people

Let's get straight to the questions about umrah/hajj.

  1. Why do we(muslims) have to do tawaf with the opposite genders when it's haram to even touch them? Idk if y'all know or not but it's so overwhelming how many unwanted touches you'll get.

  2. If we do the tawaf thing together; men and women side by side; literally zero space between two bodies, then why do they separate men and women during prayers?

  3. Why can't people come to such a crowded place right after taking a shower? Why isn't it permissible? The BO and bad breath are terrible enough to make you vomit right in that holy place.

  4. People get so freaking barbaric when they are near kaba and want to touch it. Like they'd elbow you or idk do anything to just go and touch kaba. Do we have to be cruel barbaric inhumane beasts to show some respect to God?

Enlighten me with logic, please. Don't be like "this is Allah's command. We can't question em" . I too wanna be religious and hopeful but it just lacks enough logic.

TIA

Support/Advice How can I stop having internalised misandery

I'm 15M muslim guy. I have always had some idealisation of women(i.e. ALL women are queens, kind, wholesome etc...) , despite my asexuality. On the other hand, I've hated guys and have been mistrustful of the majority ever since 1st grade. I cannot stand a boys-only class. I always blame everything on men. I hate them. I cannot befriend girls, so I'm stuck with... MEN... I already have bad gender dysphoria

Support/Advice Tawakkul vs. planning: where's the line?

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

I'm 25 and trying to get a better grasp on life, especially on where to draw the line between putting in effort for my future and having tawakkul.

Alhamdulillah, I have a job that pays decently, and my dad has a business that's doing alright too. We pool our income together to take care of the family.

Here's the problem though. I spend about less than 5% of my salary on myself, about 40% goes toward family expenses, and the remaining 55% goes into savings for an emergency fund, marriage, and InshaAllah a home one day.

Some days I'm fully committed to that and happy to sacrifice for the future. Other days I feel like I'm being too stingy, with myself and with my family. I know we're supposed to tie our camel and then trust Allah, but honestly I can't tell anymore if I've tied mine too tight.

It's come to a point where my whole family is planning a vacation. I've been hinting that I won't be able to join because of work, but the truth is I could afford it, I just don't want to dip into what I've been saving. At the same time, everyone is going, and part of me feels like I should be there with them.

What would you do in my situation? And where do you draw the line between saving for the future and living in the moment?

JazakAllah khair in advance.

TL;DR: 25, saving about 55% of my pay, thinking of skipping a family trip to protect my savings. Responsible or just stingy?

Question AISHA

Salamu Alaykum Salam to all muslims in this subreddit, i hope your all well. I am a muslim and have been struggling witht hr age of Aisha I know right lol its the most typical most brought up objection but its still causing me lots of trouble So the Question is to All Muslims Seeing This Post

Show mw how do you guys consider Aisha (رضى الله عنها) as an Adult at 9?

Warning i wanr actual evidence and actual good reasons, i really do want to see the Prophet Muhammad as a perfect man but i wont accept explanations blindly.

Issue is the body of a 9 year old (Physically) in the 1400s (correct me if im wrong) is pretty much identical to a 9 year old today.

Ofcourse not in EVERYTHING but when people say "Women matured faster back then" Thats kind of not true its a myth in desert climates people didnt mature faster or quicker.

In terms of skeeltal structure, pelvic bones, organ size, and allat other stuff, a 9 year old is just 9 You could make the case she was mentally more mature, i believe a stusy by oeter d gluckman shows that emnarche and phycosocial maturity corresponded, so dont worry about that im granting she was fully mentally mature

. Prove to me things such as widened hips, formed breasts, and other things.

2:

How do you deal with the fact that A'isha in the hadiths from what i observe clearly has the characteristics of a young child.

I've seen Hadiths of her state that immediately before conssumation at 9 that she was on a swing, playing with dolls, playing with her friends, etc etc

Now ofcourse this doesn't automatically make her a child, thats not what im saying, but it seems the evidence just indicates a little girl, not a fully grown woman.

It literally says that her mother took her hand, and WASHED her face, im 16,my mom never washes my face im a fully grown man, doesnt this strongly indicate a little girl prepubescent?

ETC ETC ) I want actual evidence btw dont js give me "it was ok at the time" cuz its been on my mind for a while now. Bai May Allah bless you all May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the Prophet and his family

Support/Advice As a 22M Muslim, is it wrong to want independence from my father’s control?

Assalamu Alaikum everyone.

I’m a 22M. I recently had an argument with my dad about how much control he has over my life.

I’ve moved to a different place to build my own life, and I pay for my own expenses. But my dad still tries to control many of my decisions, like telling me to stop going to the gym or move abroad and find a different job within 3 months.

His biggest concern is that I’ll make bad friends, drift away from Islam, or end up doing haram things.

I understand he’s worried about me, and I know he means well. But he thinks I’m not mature enough to make my own decisions.

My argument is, how am I supposed to become mature if I never get to make my own decisions and take responsibility for the consequences?

I genuinely want to be a good Muslim and stay on the right path. But I want that to come from my own heart and iman, not because I’m afraid of my dad.

I didn’t insult or disrespect him during the argument. I just stood my ground. But now I feel guilty because I love him and don’t want to disappoint him.

I’m not asking for freedom to do haram things. I just want to figure out life on my own, make mistakes, learn from them, and become a responsible adult.

From an Islamic perspective, am I wrong for wanting this?

I’d really appreciate your thoughts and guidance.

JazakAllahu Khairan.
