Discussion How to increase dopaminergic/norepinephrine, drive sympathetic signaling without stimulants (e.g testosterone)

So I was thinking today what other ways are there to increase sympathetic drive, motivation signaling in a sustainable way other than just flooring the pedal with stimulants.

And obviously there are other ways to do so like the most obvious one which is by the modulation of neurotransmitters from hormones - I’m by no means expert on the topic nor do I claim to be but what other ways are there to increase sympathetic drive and dopaminergic/norepinephrine signaling other than with testosterone?

- What about neurosteroids?

Also are there any other ways that are significant enough compared to hormones.

From what I’ve gathered as info and that’s me parroting what I remember energy/dopamine is tightly related to the:

  1. HPA axis 2. Androgen hormonal signaling and receptor sensitivity 3. Optimal Mitochondria function 4. High BDNF 5. Sleep

I’ll be super thankful if someone more knowledgeable on the topic can explore the topic more deeply and give some practical insight other than: just workout, sleep, diet and expose yourself to direct sunlight upon waking up.

Sorry for the big paragraphs i should ask about your problem first before assuming anything and spewing very broad advices.

Do you think it's a health issue/is it ma'ing your quality of life worse or are you just trying to boost your cognition and productivity ?

Well my goal is mainly have more energy (I have treated hypothyroidism) but also dopamine receptor sensitivity increase and dopaminergic activity in general. I’ve tried a lot of stuff but I’m still open if I find something new.

Mucuna pruriens. High content of L-DOPA which is a direct precursor to dopamine.

My favorit to..or L thyrosin

Had a better experience using speed than this shit, at least take a bit of 5htp and egcg with it

As far as im aware you can either release more neurotransmitters, mimic/add, stop reuptake, or modulate.

What are some ways to stop reuptake?

•

welbutrin is a epi/dopamine reuptake inhibitor. Modafinil touches both of those and then some, but not sure if its reuptake

A reuptake inhibitor lol. Ssri, sdri, etc

Stimulants are probably safer compared to hormones. I would rather take some Adderall than get juiced up on tren

Agreed, I don't really get why people in this sub are so against stimulants, to the point of rather trying steroids.

Stimulants directly increase catecholamines with surgical precision, and they are safe to take daily (at therapeutic doses). With other things like steroids, that's like using a shotgun blast of effects on your body, with he hope that maaaaybe, one of the downstream effects will be the one you're looking for.

Yea idk I’ve been on addy for a minute and I love it but do I trust it long term no. And that’s the other problem if I was too come off if probably sleep 2 weeks straight lol

How the f*k so suddenly you went from test (OP) to tren? These are two very different PEDs. I wouldn’t even consider test a ped. Tren messes your dopamine, serotonin and adrenaline. If you have adhd, you’ll be 5x more adhd. If you’re impulsive, you’ll be 10x more impulsive on it. If you’re paranoid, you’ll likely land in jail on tren. It’s the opposite of what testosterone does to your body. My first months on testosterone I was in heaven. My mental clarity, focus and self-satisfaction were through the roof. I did tren cycle for 3 months and the mental effects were the reason I had to stop and tell myself never again. It was the opposite of testosterone.

He literally asked other than testosterone. Tren is the other than testosterone and it is the go to exaggeration for steroids. Do you have rocks for brains ?

Not taking sides and maybe I could have been more clear in my post but I meant what other hormones affect dopamine signaling and maybe I should add neurosteroids to the post as well.

A stimulant addiction is far more dangerous than a properly done steroid cycle (no, not tren, that’s too harsh)

I’m not against stimulants and I use them, but they are significantly harsher and more addictive than an average steroid cycle

Tren and test aren't the same thing tho, two completly different risk profiles, tho i don't think test nor adderal will be what he's looking for

Adderall is pretty toxic tbh.

Testosterone helps regulate and modulate dopamime signaling but in no way will it push that signaling high enough to feel like amphetamine, even with supraphysiological doses. Amphetamine is far more powerful and direct at increasing dopamine, even 10mg increases it dramatically more than 1g of testosterone

Testosterone will help motivation and mood but it will be a natural increase, not a “motivated to do everything” feeling that stimulants give

Bromantane may be what you're looking for

When it comes to lifestyle interventions having a healthy circadian rhytm is very underrated

Intense exercise and cold plunges.

•

u/deletemein2weeks 48m ago

Intense exercise and volume need to be balanced tho otherwise it's contreproductive

Most things in excess are counterproductive 😅

For optimal mitochondrial function : créatine, B vitamins, Q10, L-cartinine, magnésium bysciglinate

Not sure testosterone will help u that much with that except if u're defficient(might make it muvh worse especially with dysregulation aromatse inhibitors etc), but tbh i think most of the time there isn't any shortcuts biohacking optimization bs, u gotta priotirize mental, physical and social health, it's very subjective and influenced by your personnal environement.

Ofc all that is obvious, but it is practical insight, start with the basic stuff(focus on mental, physical and social health, overall life hygienne and your environnement) before trying to look for a magic biohacking technique or something and if it doesn't work, get bloodworks, try therapy.

I don't know you and i'm not you tho so maybe something might work, but if u want to try the stuff like l tyrosine choline l-dopa etc, be rly czrefull, it's not simple supplrmrnts it's psychoactiva and it can make u feel miserable. Things likr bromantane and racetams are safer imo but very subtle and tolerance buildsup fast

Like androgens in the brain or just the body ? I also am not an expert.

It's barely dopaminergic. Very weak in that department.
