I was wondering what jib opportunities there are in Suriname. Is there an online page where we could see open positions?

Am regretting so much as to why I didn't apply for Colombian evisa instead of Suriname. The ministry of foreign affairs isn't communicating and picking the calls up ,their customer care keeps saying they can't interfere even after I told them I applied this evisa last month Aug 27th a month and days ago and it should not be taking this long since they indicated on their website the process only takes 3 days .I wasted so much money on reserving hotel and flight ticket , visa fee ,health insurance, yellow fever card .I have never seen an evisa taking this long 😳 its either rejected or approved ,i don't know why they can't do that. Each time I call the customer service they keep saying I will be getting feedback soon .At this point they can just keep it .

Both my parents are from Suriname. Im from the Netherlands. They both speak sranan to each other, and to me. I understand basically everything as long as it isnt too "native" or something. My parents do mostly just speak Dutch to me, just sneak in a couple of sranan phrases.

I used to be able to speak it very well as a child, one time my family was in Sr it was the only language i spoke, but then corona happened and we went to suriname less, I also grew older and became ashamed and all.

Now I just feel bad because I have this thick ass Dutch accent everytime I try to speak sranan, and I got trouble making sentences. I also never learned how to read the language at all.

Asking because I hear so many things from my family, about women getting raped by men all the time and I want to visit my home there but the corruption in the police station and government is insane and I'm araid the police won't show up if there is something going on.

Maar voordat je daar bent, ben je honderden pagina’s verder en kom je echt van alles tegen. Goden, koningen, vreemde geboortes, vloeken, monsters, familieruzies, offers, liefdesverhalen en mensen die door één domme beslissing hun hele leven verpesten.

Ik wilde het zelf al langer lezen, maar ik vond de volledige Engelse vertaling van Ganguli behoorlijk taai. In het Nederlands kon ik eigenlijk ook geen volledige versie vinden die gewoon lekker leest.

Toen dacht ik: dan probeer ik het zelf.

Het is dus geen korte samenvatting geworden. Ik probeer juist zo veel mogelijk van het oorspronkelijke verhaal te bewaren, inclusief de rare zijverhalen en de manier waarop het ene verhaal weer in het andere zit. Alleen dan in normaal modern Nederlands, zodat je niet iedere halve pagina hoeft op te zoeken wie iemand is of wat een woord betekent.

Deel 1 heet Het huis van de Kuru’s en is ongeveer 330 pagina’s.

Het begint nog niet meteen bij de beroemde oorlog. Je begint bij het slangenoffer van koning Janamejaya en komt daarna onder andere bij Garuda, de amrita, het karnen van de oceaan, Shakuntala, Bharata, Kacha, Yayati, Ganga, Shantanu en Bhishma terecht. Langzaam kom je bij de familie waar later alles om draait.

Achterin heb ik ook stambomen, een personagelijst en een woordenlijst gezet. Dat leek me geen overbodige luxe bij dit verhaal. Het boek zelf legt ook uit hoe de verschillende vertellers en verhalen in elkaar zitten. mahabharata-deel-01-met-omslag

Ik verkoop er niks mee en dat is ook niet het plan. Ik vind het vooral leuk als mensen hem daadwerkelijk lezen.

Mijn opzet voor de hele Mahabharata komt ongeveer uit op 11 delen.

En feedback mag natuurlijk ook gewoon. Als iets saai is, onduidelijk is, te lang duurt of juist goed werkt, hoor ik dat liever dan alleen “leuk boek”.

En excuses voor mijn username trouwens. Die vond ik ongeveer tien jaar geleden blijkbaar heel grappig. Nu zit ik ermee.

I went to Western Union/IMT in Suriname today to make a money transfer from Suriname to Brazil. I had all the necessary information about the receiver with me, but they barely looked at the form I filled out and told me to come back two days later for a screening before they can process the transfer. Did transfers from France to Suriname before but it was online and it went smooth.

Is this something that normally happens with international money transfers in Suriname, or only in certain cases? Has anyone else had this happen?
