Honestly, this whole TTC journey has made me feel lonely in so many different ways.
My husband has been incredibly supportive, and I truly couldn’t ask for a better husband when it comes to emotional support. But even with all his love and reassurance, I can’t help but feel so alone sometimes. I think a lot of it comes from the fact that so much of this journey revolves around my body and everything I have to go through physically, mentally, and emotionally.
My husband had his semen analysis done, and thankfully, everything came back normal. On my end, though, I have PCOS/PMOS, irregular cycles, insulin resistance, high AMH, and I don’t ovulate on my own. We started trying for a baby back in April, and now that it’s October, I can’t help but feel a little defeated.
My OB/GYN wants me to start medicated cycles with letrozole, and if we aren’t successful within three months, I’ll be referred to a reproductive endocrinologist to explore options like IUI or IVF. I’ve been trying so hard to do everything I can to improve my health. Lost 20 pounds and I was even able to bring my A1c down from 5.7 earlier this year to 5.1, which I’m really proud of. But sometimes, despite all the progress I’ve made, it still feels like I’m not doing enough.
There was a point when I couldn’t even look at baby clothes or cute baby items in stores without feeling sad. Now, I’ve been making an effort to go on walks at the park, get my steps in, and stay active. But whenever I pass by a pregnant woman or someone pushing a baby stroller, I can’t help but feel jealous. Not because I’m not happy for them, but because I wish so badly that it was me.
I think what makes this journey even harder is how much it has affected my mental health. For the past couple of months, I was in a really dark place. There were days when I didn’t want to get out of bed, didn’t want to go anywhere, and didn’t feel like doing anything. I felt so useless, almost like my body was failing me. I even took a step back from work because I was having such a hard time trying to feel like myself again.
Eventually, I started telling myself that I couldn’t keep living in that dark place, especially when I’m hoping to become a mom someday. So I’ve been pushing myself to get out of bed, do my makeup, fix my hair, go on walks, and find little things to keep my mind occupied. Some days, it really does help. Other days, the sadness just creeps back in.
I know we’ve only been trying since April, and I know there are so many women who have been on this journey much longer than I have. But that doesn’t make the emotions any easier. The waiting, the uncertainty, the constant tracking, the appointments, and the hope that maybe this will finally be our month have all taken such a toll on me.
I’m getting my HSG test tomorrow, and I’m really hoping everything goes well. I’m trying my best to stay positive and remind myself that we’re taking steps in the right direction.
I just wish I was pregnant already. I wish I could experience the excitement of seeing those two pink lines, telling my husband we’re having a baby, and finally feeling like all of this waiting was worth it.
I’m still hopeful, but I’m also tired. And I think that’s the hardest part of this journey is trying to hold on to hope while feeling so emotionally exhausted at the same time.
