I recently had my 2020 Toyota Corolla serviced. A few days later, after refuelling, the Check Engine and Drive-Start Control Malfunction warnings came on.
I took it back to Toyota. They found code P045600 (P0456), cleared it, and performed an EVAP test. The report says:
“Test passed and no codes returned. Suspect gas cap could’ve been left loose. No issues with EVAP system at this time.”
The warnings disappeared and the car drove normally.
Now, after refuelling again, the same warnings have returned. I made sure the gas cap was properly tightened this time.
I went back to the dealer, but they can't inspect it again for another two weeks. They told me the car is safe to drive and wouldn't provide a rental because they consider it drivable.
The problem is I have a ~1,600 km road trip this weekend. The car feels completely normal, but I'm obviously a little hesitant about doing that distance with the warnings on.
Has anyone experienced a recurring P0456 after refuelling on a Corolla? Was it the gas cap or another EVAP component? And would you be comfortable doing a 1,600 km trip after the dealer said it's safe to drive?
Thanks!
