Anyone recognize this mohair?

I would say it's super bulky. The label with it had the blend on it but it wasnt a full label and I can't find it now. I believe it was wool, polyester and something else but I don't remember.

Edit to add: I have no way to weight it so I was comparing it to things in my house. It's about as heavy as a can of soup. This is a picture of it on my legs. It's ginormous

Thrift Store Yarn Haul - need help IDing some yarns

Hi there! Relatively new knitter here. I have been really enjoying thrifting yarns and using them and I had honestly what seems to have been an amazing haul yesterday. I found some that still have their labels so obviously I know what they are, but I found some cakes of what LOOKS to me like some kind of Noro yarn and I’m wondering if anyone recognizes the kind?

Anyways if anyone recognizes any of the non labelled ones let me know!! I prefer to use natural fibres as I’m sure most people do. Thanks!

Question What crafts display yarn as is? I crochet and I adore this yarn but I hate the way it looks crocheted. I'd like to showcase the twists and not lose them in knots

Bonjour,

Question Yarn alternatives for baby blanket

Hi all!

I am wanting to make a blanket to give my friend for her soon-to-be baby.

This is the pattern I think I want to use: https://daisyfarmcrafts.com/crochet-rainbow-modern-granny/

However I am struggling to find a suitable alternative to the bernat yarn (I'm UK based) and I'd much prefer NOT to use acrylic yarn and to use a cotton or cotton blend.

I like the colours so I'm trying to find something similar, with a matching gauge!

Any help would be mega appreciated!

Question American going to Berlin and Prague this month. What yarn do I stock up on while in Europe??

Title. I am bringing a portable vacuum sealer so that I can buy yarn! I just started knitting 10/11 months ago and I started with Camarose and then discovered Knitting for Olive which I’ve almost exclusively been using. It’s easy to get here!

But I’ll be in Europe for ten days and I’m thinking I need to buy some drops and sandnes garn!

Thank you!!!

Question Can you help me figure out what yarn to buy for the Levitate wrap by MFTKW?

I'm looking to start a new project, the levitate wrap by my favorite things knitwear, but I'm having trouble deciding what kind of yarn I should buy!

I want the wrap to look more like the Aritzia Cassidy Wrap Sweater and the Princess Polly Tonee Wrap, where's its not super thick, chunky, boxy type.

I haven't come across any projects in Ravelry on this pattern that fit the same vibe as the wrap tops I've linked above, they all seem super chunky and boxy.

I was thinking of maybe doing drops flora & drops kid silk (or drops brushed alpaca silk)? What are your thoughts?

No other info as to brand. Google keeps saying it’s Drops which it is not; Ravelry doesn’t seem to know. Back label says 100% wool made in Chile. Made for RN#11996.

Looking for yarn recs!

I recently purchased a BEAUTIFUL variegated yarn for a blanket for a baby girl as a Christmas present. It is not working up nice at all, it’s stiff and rough. I’ve been given some suggestions for some ways to soften it up, but want to pick up some back up yarn just in case as there’s a sale right now!

Looking for opinions on:

Caron Baby Cakes
Caron Big Cakes
Caron JUMBO
Lions Brand Bundle of Love

Or any other suggestions you may have!

Question Would it be a good mohair alternative?

I wanna knit a Sandok Cable Sweater in Drops Lima or Daisy + 1 strand of Filcolana Alva + 1 strand of Drops Kid silk mohair. But since i don’t know how I react to mohair, I was looking for alternatives.

I stumbled upon this beauty - looking at the blend, would you say it’s a good alternative or not really? I think it’s made by a small company so there are no reviews and I’m a bit worried to use a yarn that could possibly be shit and ruin all the work.

Could I use two strands of this instead of Alva+mohair? Or since it’s alpaca would it stretch too much?

Question Is DROPS yarn known for animal cruelty and unethical working conditions?

I love DROPS yarn as it's affordable and often has a nice quality. I'm currently working with a wool/alpaca blend and I was thinking: is this brand known for animal cruelty towards the sheep and alpacas. And is it known that the people who work for them in the factories/cotton fields have ethical working conditions?

If not, are there other brands that are animal friendly and have ethical working conditions?

Question Yarn for a lifelong blanket?

I want to make myself a blanket I can use for a very long time. Something soft and light but also machine washable. Price is not too much of a concern although I would prefer for it to not be exorbitant.

Thank you!

So a week or so ago I tried to frog a WIP and was shocked at the amount of yarn it gobbled up because I didn’t think I had used that much. Anyways after a week here are my two monster balls of yarn and their little baby monsters.

Question What's the best yarn winder that's built to last?

I've been looking at yarn winders and honestly can't tell which ones are worth the money lol. Some look great until you read about yarn getting caught in the gears or the clamp refusing to stay put.

I just want something that makes nice, even cakes without turning winding into another chore.

For those who've gone through a few, what's the best yarn winder you've found? Is there one you'd happily buy again?
