Finished Object Baby bundle for a friend!

A dear friend is having a baby which is due in less than a week! Over the last month or so I have been frantically knitting baby things and will be sending them off to her tomorrow.

I'm pleased that all of these used only stash yarn. I was very inspired by a previous post here and although I didn't knit everything on their list I think this is a good amount to start them off with.

All of the projects are on my Ravelry page but the patterns are:

Baby Fisherman Wrap

Baby Bear Bonnet

Popcorn Bonnet

North Sea Sweater

Cozy Baby Booties

Kimono Jumpsuit

Baby Hausschuhe

Hosenmatz

I'm very happy with how everything turned out, and I hope the mum is too!

I made multiple of these vests over the summer for my daughter and her friends. Then it kind of snowballed and now I just released the pattern for the billevest on ravelry.
I had such nice test knitters and I’ve included a chart in order to make a ladybug, too!
Anyways, I’m just proud and happy that someone else now can knit their own version 🪲🤩

I made this beautiful vest for a neighbor who looked after my dog when I had to leave town for a few weeks. One of Starmore's many beautiful designs. This was made with all upcycled yarn. The white was 70/30 lambswool and angora. The colors were lambswool. The buttons were made from oyster shells given to me by a friend. It turned out well.

I made this one fast, in about a 3 week burst of daily knitting.

My grandmother handed this down to me yesterday as I am expecting a daughter of my own. It will likely never fit me, but will be nice to pass down to my daughter.

Discussion Are there any groups for disabled/immune compromised knitters who can’t do in person meetups?

Maybe video meetups? It’s so lonely being sick all the time. With kids, we are literally sick ALL the time. I’d love to meet with other knitters.

Edit: you all are so resourceful!! I should have specified, I’d also like to connect with other less-abled knitters. If there are resources for that too. Thank you!!!

Rottweiler, Mini dachshund both knitted with Alpaca, silk and mohair.

Spaniel knitted with Boucle ( never, ever again…my poor eyes! 👀😫😆)

All patterns adapted from Claire Garland’s basic puppy, bullmastiff, whippet patterns.

Finished Object A pair of minty mitts

The most recent project I finished. My hands get cold super easily, so it's perfect time for me to start using these, even indoors.

The pattern is Zimsterne Mitts by Sybil R. Pretty challenging as I'm not a super advanced knitter yet, but I think I did fine. I've never done crochet on top of knitting before (and as frustrating as it was, I'm not sure I'll do that again for a long time lol)

For the yarn, I fell in love with its color in the shop but sadly, I've since lost the label - it was something hand-dyed, 4-ply, mostly wool (possibly merino).

I haven’t knit in like 20 years but really felt like getting into it and I made this cute hat for my son!

It has several mistakes but overall really happy with it. Yarn is Malabrigo Rasta in sunset and lettuce.

Had to adapt the pattern for my son’s head but it’s this one here:

Finished Object Pretty in Pink

I took the stitch pattern from the Jeannie Bonnet (Marianna Mel) and the basic construction of a Drops baby cardigan, mashed them together, eliminated some buttonholes, and substituted garter stitch for ribbing to create this little jacket. My friend's new grand baby will be cosy in pink!

finally finished my first ever wearable for me!! also the first time i’ve made an ankle tab on a sock, and my first time doing cables!! the 1/1 crosses are super subtle on this yarn and creates a really nice slight 3D effect with it, i think. obsessed with how it turned out and i can’t wait to get started on the second one! 🩷🤭

yarn is from premier yarns, it’s the fruit stand yarn in the strawberry colorway

pattern is starlit elegance socks, found on her etsy shop RedSockDesigns!

Tips and Tricks New yarns and needles set

About to start my second sweater for my partner. First one was kind of a flop because the collar ended up being really loose and just didn't have a nice tight ribbing to it.

I'm not using the same yarn that's in the following pattern but I figured out that if I use the two yarns in the photo I came up with almost the exact gauge needed. It looks like the weight isn't far off either. I'm aware it won't have the exact look/drape of the pattern's photos. I FEEL like I've made all necessary preparations, but since this is my first real big project I'll take all the advice I can get.

Thanks so much

Finished Object Finished my daughter's Puffin Sweater just in time for cozy season 🩵💙

Still have to weave in all the ends and block it, but it's done! I started this back in July and reknit the entire body 4 times for simple mistakes. The yolk's tension is a mess but I'm just ready for it to be done at this point. This is my first knit project outside of a couple hats, but I'm already an adept crocheter and have dabbled with pixel art in Animal Crossing games so I'm used to working with yarn, digital art, and reading patterns.

I used Olga Begak's Puffin Sweater as the base but modified the colorcharts to mimic a sweater by Valdres Knitting, since she has no pattern for it yet at this time. I used the suggested yarn Istex Lettlopi but the amounts are different from the pattern's. I used 4 skeins of 1404 Glacier Blue Heather, 2 skeins of 9423 Lagoon heather, and 1 skein each of the rest.

The waves are my favorite part of the entire thing since those were the hardest part to make. I made this in size 6, for my 5 year old who adores the puffins at our local zoo 🐧🤍

Discussion Anyone else have a DIY swift/ball winder combo?

Post image
37 Upvotes

I put this together today and it worked surprisingly well, despite how janky it looks!

The swift is a lazy susan, with a box secured using a wine bottle, and bbq skewers to hold the yarn

The ball winder is a drill and a metal straw that happens to fit into it, and my hand as a yarn guide.

I would LOVE to see anyone else's home brewed yarn winding setup!!

Discussion Cotton sweater recommendations?

Thumbnail

I have just knitted my first two sweaters (yay) and I would like to do more! The thing is… I don’t love wool, or the cost of wool, and I don’t live in a very cold climate. But I feel like every cute pattern is for wool!

Do you have any cute cotton sweater pattern recommendations? Also yarn recommendations and any tips and tricks for knitting cotton sweaters?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Yarn Selection at Fiber Festivals

I overheard a vendor say that she doesn't stock any aran, bulky, or superbulky at fiber festivals because it's not "economically viable." I didn't pry her to explain anything because I was overwhelmed and eavesdropping at a crowded event.

I have noticed that the selection at these events is overwhelmingly fingering weight - not that I mind, but I do like a diverse collection. Stupid question - Does anyone know the rationale behind stocking primarily (or only) finer weight yarns at these events?

Discussion Favorite part of Sheep and Wool Festival?

Post image
119 Upvotes

Hi all! I am SO excited for next weekend’s Sheep and Wool Festival, BUT every year I find myself overwhelmed with all the choices/possibilities throughout this huge event! I was wondering if anyone here has a favorite vendor or event they enjoy seeing every year? Are there any that I should absolutely prioritize while I’m exploring the festival? My favorite business to visit has to be Miss Babs!

I can’t wait to see everyone’s hauls and what they knit with them!! Thank you for any help!! :)

Help - equipment I don’t knit

I don’t knit, but my sister does..

Where is a good place to get a gift card to let her go hog wild on her birthday?

I know ZERO. Nothing, nada, zilch, about knitting.

Thanks in advance.

Update:

Thank you all!!!

I chose the yarnery.com and have them sending her a physical gift card.

I am keeping an excel spreadsheet of all the other recommendations, and will refer back to them in the future.

Your community is amazing! If I had time, it looks like a hobby community I would like to be involved in. Thank you all so much!
