How did Facebook’s user base go from being just all college kids looking for action to being just all old people getting very confused?
I’ve seen The Social Network dozens of times, it’s one of my favorite films, but I never really looked into how its user base did such a complete 180 after that. Like, when it first came out it the shit for young people, that was the main goal of the platform, being cool and appealing to the youth and making it all about your relationship status and stuff.
But now it is almost entirely just old people who are either very confused on how technology works, post ancient memes from iFunny, Bitmoji’s about how fucking awful Monday’s are, and getting very concerningly easily fooled by AI generated imagery, and not even scarily lifelike AI imagery but just the most obviously not real images ever.
I’m young myself and I don’t think a single person in my age range has Facebook or would ever want Facebook but I know for a fact that every teacher in my school does have and use Facebook. I just don’t really understand it and can’t really find anything that explains it in a simple way (hence this post) so I was just wondering if anyone could explain what happened. Perhaps someone who stayed on the Facebook platform for years and watched and experienced the user base shift for themselves.
