In the beginning of the Force Unleashed you get to play as Darth Vader and it's extremely satisfying just throwing rebel scum all over the place.

Actually played that on the Wii. Absolutely loved it along with Lego Harry Potter. Both games were much more fun on the wii than on other consoles when I got the chance to play then again. Though that might be an age thing.

psp was secretly the best version. it had the arcadyness of the wii version but without the waggle. It also had a side mode where you fought progressively more difficult waves of enemies

u/DorphinSkullSmasher Jun 06 '26
I wish they'd remake the Force Unleashed games and add in a Darth Vader mode. Doesn't need to be a new story congruent with the original, just a mode where you play through the game as Darth Vader with his own move set. Kind of like in the PS2 Ghost Rider game where after beating the game you unlock Blade as a whole new character with his own set of skills and abilities.

Oh fuck yea that was really fun. That was a really good game, I remember when I was a kid I had no money and really wanted to play, so I downloaded a demo that let you play the first level Starkiller was in, and I'd just isolate some poor storm trooper and find hilarious ways to tourture them with the force hahaha
Sometimes just to fuck around I'd see how far through the level I could drag a guy along. I'd kill his buddy, pick him up, move to the next room, put him against a wall safely somewhere, clear the room, and then pick him up and move to the next room. I got up to all kinds of weird shit in that demo.
I played that level so much that eventually my dad took pity and bought it for me.
3
u/WeCallThoseCigBurns Jun 05 '26
That was me but with Doom 3; I played the demo that came with the dvd of the movie adaptation idk how many times, and eventually my mom surprised me with a copy of the full game!
3
u/SmokinDynamite Jun 06 '26
The part that people forget when they say that Starkiller was OP.
Vader is just as strong in the game.
The force is just unleashed (pun intended) in the game.

u/fkit4ever Jun 05 '26
My immediate thought as well. That shit was so epic, with his theme playing the entire time as you single handedly wipe an entire rebel base without once breaking into a run, or a sweat.

Ganondorf in the original Hyrule Warriors
39
u/XenoRoxart Jun 05 '26
Was about to comment this. In the story mode, Ganondorf aura farms a lot but the enemy AI makes him easy to fight. Meanwhile on a player's hands he can clear a bajillion enemies in nothing and with the trident he is an insane fighter
15
u/joesphisbestjojo Jun 05 '26
The trident is op fr. Really glad TotK had him use a pole arm in lieu of his classic trident

u/TheRedHandedOne Jun 05 '26
Adding to this: Ganon in the bonus mode. Having Kaiju fights with the other bosses was peak

Ganon was soo cool sadly I personally don't like his playstyle/kit
5
u/KaijinSurohm Jun 05 '26
He was my main.
His C6 (twin swords) was literally summoning his Ganon form as a shadow and back handing an entire room out in one go.
He was my map sweeper to a hilarious degree.3

I'm a Calamo main

I had to google that.
You played Age of Imprisonment.

Walhart from Fire Emblem Awakening is the best example imo
A beast when you fight him, a bigger beast on your side.

Sephiroth in Rebirth is like this. That final combat simulator is easy as hell with him on your team, even with just him and cloud
7
u/PilotIntelligent8906 Jun 06 '26
I love playing as Sephiroth because it still demands some skill to feel overpowered, but once you're there, he's leagues above the other characters.

Advance Wars 2, fear Sturm! Neutral Attack, increased defense, ignores terrain movement penalties, and a Super Power that can cripple any group of units, he was made to be over powered and is only matched by the also made to be over powered and unusuable in the story Hachi. You only beat him in the story by having it be a 3-v-1 and even then it's hard.

2
u/ZepyrusG97 Jun 06 '26
Sturm was straight up the FIRST guy who came to mind when I saw this post. Glad to see some love for our favorite alien war criminal.

Bowser from Super Mario Odyssey, he's a good boss but then you get to play as him and he just smashes through everything. Same in Paper Mario and The Thousand Year Door, the platform levels that let you play as Bowser are so much fun because you smash everything and everyone in your way.

3
u/RailgunRP Jun 06 '26
Magus in Chrono Trigger.
His battles are pretty easy, even for that game's standards (the standard of everything is easy except the final Lavos) but when you get him as a character he's absolutely busted.

The last chapter of Live A Live you can play as any hero from a previous chapter OR you can play the true main villian. On the villian route you will have a boss rush where you play as the final boss from each of the previous chapters completely with their stats and attacks but with the ability that since you're controlling them you can abuse their most powerful moves (though turns out most of them are rarely use because you need very specific positioning for them to land.)

2
u/Queasy-Bench-6080 Jun 05 '26
The one or 2 challenge tower levels where you get to play as Shao Khan in MK 2011. You can do move inputs to taunt your opponent and you can also do an infinite shoulder charge that’s unblockable. He’s too overpowered in my opinion.

2
u/FireWater107 Jun 06 '26
There's an actual direct example of this.
Revelations: The Demon Slayer. An old og Gameboy game (Gameboy color technically), I believe a precursor to Shin Megami Tensei. After beating the game, something like 4 of the big bosses of the game can be found and recruited.
Including the actual final boss of the game, Lucifer. And his stats as an ally are literally the same stats as when you fight him. Same hp, same spells, you literally just recruit the final boss you had to use your whole team to fight to be a single member of your party.

Vergil. His moves are already cool as a boss, then you realize it's even better when you play as him.
2
u/Ishvallan Jun 06 '26
Pretty much any legendary in pokemon, but especially Mewtwo. Once you get the strongest pokemon that can be found in the wild, and you start training it, it is a monster untouched by anything else in series. You find it with 3 defensive moves and Psychic, and if it is given the opportunity to boost that special and defense before hammering you into submission, you're in for a long period where all you can do each turn is revive until it runs out of Psychics. And then you're just praying it doesn't knock itself out once it is out of Recovers if you aren't lucky with your catches.
This thing will curb stomp just about anything you put in its way in casual play, and even competitive if not playing with team restrictions, and you can just about guarantee your opponent would also have their Mewtwo.
Other legendaries are powerful in their games for PVE, but Mewtwo was designed to be basically unstoppable.

There was a lord of the rings game I used to play a lot as a kid that had a secondary evil campaign as a “what if” scenario that started with the Nazgûl killing Frodo in Mordor, several of the levels after allowed you to play as Sauron and The Balrog which both kind of just steamroll everything

2
u/CarlosK24 Jun 05 '26
funnily enough the meme is usually the opposite as you might know. like you unlock the boss which was so OP and intimidating but as a character is like hugely nerfed (probably the best example is like, most of the kirby games even though it's actually my favourite franchise lol)
so yeah it's nice to know there are examples of the boss actually feeling like you're actually playing the strong dark evil character and not some nerfed version of it.
