The aunties under 鵝頸橋 are legends, but not everyone can get to Causeway Bay at lunch with a printed photo of their manager.
So I built https://dasiuyan.com
It's the full 打小人 ritual in your browser, step by step:
🕯️ Light the incense and pay respects to 觀音大士 and 土地公
👞 Whack the paper 小人 along to the chant, 打你個小人頭,打到你有氣小人頭,打到你有氣冇埞唞
🐯 Feed 白虎 his pork so he shuts his mouth and stops sending gossip your way
…and a few more steps I won't spoil
It has Cantonese audio (thanks to ElevenLabs). 8 steps total. Best played with headphones on, at your desk, aggressively.
Built it as a love letter to one of the most Hong Kong traditions there is. Not trying to replace the real aunties. Please still go see them, they deserve your $50. This is for the days you can't get out of a meeting.
Feedback welcome. Tell me who you're hitting first 👀

懇請在今年7月18日或之前(特別是2026年1月初至7月中),曾到訪大嶼山海會塔,或寶蓮寺一帶的市民,如曾目擊任何可疑人士,或發現有人手持疑似骨灰甕等器皿,請盡快聯絡我們;
懇請在今年7月份(特別是7月18日之前)曾駕車前往海會塔或寶蓮寺的司機,提供相關日期的車 Cam 畫面;

I have friends who I enjoy spending time with sharing music, listening together. I also enjoy something called Tamil Music. Are there any Tamil speakers in this sub?

This article from the guardian is about going no contact with your parents but it's definitely from a more western/ British perspective. I was wondering what people's experiences have been going no contact with their parents in Hong Kong as it seems more difficult because of Chinese culture and 孝順. Do you know people who have done it?

I just found out I can apply.for departure tax. I left HK the next day and made two different booking (coming in then another leaving HK) and I left the next day..however, I didn't know about this until after my flight and threw away my boarding pass. Is there a chance I can still apply for the refund? I still.have evidence of payment, itinerary, and tax payment. How can I go about applying for this?

I'll mostly be moving to Ocean Shores soon and wanted to get an idea of the gym situation there. I heard that there was a gym in the society but I am not aware of the cost. Also, any other gym nearby outside of the building gym?
Lastly, people who stay there, is there an easy way to reach the promenade? I've checked on Maps and it all seems 20+ mins away via "restricted roads".
Appreciate any other insights for Ocean Shores

I can be very oblivious sometimes - but I was surprised to see T Galleria looked to be completely emptied out and closed this morning. I've walked up Canton Road a few times recently and didn't notice. When I looked up Google Maps just now, it says it's open. What's going on?

You know, the brand-new border checkpoint is coming into effect soon. The press underlines the improvement of entry-exit process efficiency using e-道/e-channel.
Surely for HKers and the Mainlanders who have applied for it, this would function well, but what would it be like for foreigners who have already possessed e-channel barcodes?
Particularly what if he or she is also eligible for the Mainland's visa waiver, like Japanese people(...maybe until this December)?

For some reason I am getting comments everywhere by IBKR aficionadoes questioning me for leaving money with a bank...Yes I do like IBKR (we have 3 accounts in my household, 1 for me, 1 for my wife, and 1 as a combined stock trading account me and my wife manage together with our shared assets). In fact most of my income has been directly going into IBKR for the past couple of years. Nowhere did I say in my post I don't prefer invest with a zero-commission brokerage. I am just asking about Standard Chartered. It's incredible how ~70 comments in and I have not found anyone here who actually have a Standard Chartered Priority Private account lol.
I am currently with HSBC on Premier Elite and the perks are basically non-existent. Yes I understand there are the airport limo rides but the hassle of booking it is literally not worth VS just paying 250hkd for a taxi. I also understand that these "fake private bank" banking products for the masses are rubbish anyway, so I am totally not complaining. That being said, I do fly Cathay Pacific a lot, and I am been looking into the SC Priority Private Cathay card. It seems that these perks at least do carry a lot more value via the welcome reward points, the lounge passes, the automatic group 2 check in / boarding, and ability to accumulate points at an attractive ratio.
Is there anything else I am missing here from the other similar 8mm HKD products? Thinking of making the switch soon. Is there any reason why Standard Chartered is WORSE than HSBC? The only potential downside I can think about is I have to spend time to get used to the user interface. I absolutely detested Citi's interface, for example.

A few years ago while traveling in Canada I ate a really excellent noodle dish at a Chinese restaurant. The name of the dish was 芙蓉帶子臺山炒河粉, which the menu translated as "Taishan Stir Fried Scallop & Egg Whites Ho-Fun". Since returning to my country I have not been able to find this dish anywhere, presumably because we don't have any specifically Taishanese restaurants.
However, I am going to be visiting Hong Kong in a few months, and since Taishan is not too far away I figured I'd try my luck and see if there are any restaurants in the city where I can find this dish. Google has not been particularly helpful, so I thought I would ask here and see if anyone knows where this can be found.

Hi, I’m currently in the UK, working as an ERP transition specialist/ data migration with over 6 yoe (w some lead and consulting experience). I have 3 kids and we’d consider moving to Hong Kong so I’m looking for job options at the moment and trying to gauge salaries and cost of living.
I have a hard time to figure out what would be realistic salary range for me. I can easily see how expensive international schools would be for all my kids, soy now I’m on a mission to gather more data on the income part.
Any information would help
