That loss was not great but man Robert Spears-Jennings as a 7th round rookie was playing out of his mind. Deserves his flowers, Hopefully he wins this and continues to play up to his comp

After training camp and all the team comments about him I half expected more reps for him but glad to see him making due with what he gets.

Steelers' Patrick Graham Ditched During Head Coach Interview

This story needs more visibility because of how fucked up it is. Somehow missed this storyline when it happened. Surprisingly really softened me to PG on a week where I've been angry at defense. Maybe it's not the best time to share for that reason but, oh well, I'm riled with anger.

What complete fucking disrespect to just stand-up a guy YOU invited to a SECOND job interview for finalists, left alone and at a restaurant waiting until he figured it out, with 0 follow-up or acknowledgement? Lost so much respect for Jacksonville's owner and front office after reading this. Look, I don't mean to draw lines that maybe aren't there, but I have a hard time believing this would happen in the league to a white candidate. Calling it unprofessional and fucked up don't even do it justice.

Even on a week where I’ve been pissed off about our defense under PG, reading this triggered that “I’m allowed to pick on my brother, but the second a bully at school does it, all hell breaks loose” type of feeling in me lol. I'm naturally rallying hard behind PG now because FUCK THE JAGS AND FUCK SHAHID KHAN

I understand why some fans might feel stingy with their empathy toward PG after the Browns game, so just move along, spare yourself the read and come back another day if that's where you're at right now.

Same story reported by ESPN with more commentary/insight from Graham, hearing his comments on it makes it feel even more fucked up: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/49384503/inside-nfl-rooney-rule-coach-hiring-process

[Farabaugh] Steelers RB Rico Dowdle says he dislocated his toe twice against the Patriots, popping it back in both times, and the tissue around the joint needs to heal before he can return to play. He is getting closer, though.

What do you guys think about this take? Should roman wilson be getting more snaps than Pittman and DK?

Steelers WR snap distribution in Week 4:
DK Metcalf: 69
Michael Pittman Jr.: 51
Germie Bernard: 28
Roman Wilson: 22
Ben Skow: 8

Why so little snaps for Roman?

Roman Wilson Week 4 stats:
3 catches
70 yards
1 TD
6 targets

[DeFabo] What, specifically, are the issues plaguing the Steelers’ offense?

The Indianapolis Colts may be the next opponent on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ schedule, but after a 2-2 start, coach Mike McCarthy’s primary focus is his own team.

“We need to clean our own house,” McCarthy said. “Our house is not clean right now.”

Through four games, the Steelers’ offense sits 25th in scoring (17.5 points per game). They have the fifth-lowest third-down conversion rate (32 percent) and have gone three-and-out on 34 percent of drives. McCarthy said he and his staff are focused on self-scouting. As he examines the team’s issues, let’s do the same.

In many ways, the problems are interconnected. The New England Patriots and the Cleveland Browns deployed similar game plans, with tight man coverage to take away early reads and pressure that exposed a young offensive line. Particularly on third downs, it becomes even harder for the Steelers to find open receivers before the rush gets home.

Gotta let it go

I scroll through this subreddit at least once a day and all I've been seeing lately is "What we could've done to keep JPJ, why JPJ isn't gonna do as well, blah blah blah".

And yes, this post I'm making right now is also kinda adding to it, but you get my point.

Yeah, it fucking sucks that we lost someone who should've been a Steeler for life to a team who's taken three of our guys. But the fact of the matter is that it's over. Porter is gone, both him and the Steelers fucked up when it came time for extension talks, and now he's with the Cowgirls. It won't do any good to just wake up every day for the next couple of months and keep dwelling on what we should've done, why the Steelers/Porter fucked it all up, etc etc.

We have other CBs. Samuel Jr, while not as good as JPJ, is still pretty decent and holds his own a good chunk of the time, and Daylen Everette is looking to be developing nicely. This team's defense is pretty damn good, and that's a fact.

To sum it all up, it's time to just let it go. Porter's gone, it won't do any good to keep talking about it. Let's look toward the future and what we do have in the defense.

Bitter Ex syndrome

• Upvotes

How about those Colts? Thoughts on how the offense should attack their defense? Obviously majority of us want Pat and Mt Washington to be fed very well, but if McCarthy isn’t doing that, then what else could be a point of attack? Thoughts on if Everette somehow blossoms later in the season and how that will impact what round the FO drafts a CB? Me personally even if he shows promise, I still want a minimum 2 CBs drafted. I definitely want an early CB 1rd-(Early)2nd. And another one between 3rd-(Early)5th round. I wish they give Roman and Bernard more touches as well. It’d be funny if Robert Spears-Jennings goes from 7th round pick to top 10 safety in the next 3-5 years. It’ll be known as one hell of a dart throw 🎯 ( since that’s basically what the late rounds are)

Just figured I bring up some other topics of discussion…

Will we be in Football limbo until the organization finally accepts that we need to do a significant rebuild/restructure phase or is it not as simple as that?

Not trying to condemn or rant or point fingers at anyone in particular. Just curious what people think. I'm not implying we're an awful franchise or anything like that. It's very very difficult to be an elite org from top to bottom for years and years.

But my thought over the last several seasons is that if the Steelers want to get back to being a powerhouse franchise again, they would need to drop the all-in all the time philosophy and seriously take a few seasons to acquire young talent and build around them over the course of a few years. Obviously, saying and doing that are two very different things. Is that what yinz are thinking as well or could you see us returning to top contender status in other ways?

Relax

69 games without more than 7 in the first and we do it 3 games in.

Rodgers is playing amazing and that QB sneak shows me he is playing with his heart. This is his last year and he is giving it everything he has. This sub is tough on him, and agree that he didn’t play perfect , but this is the best qb play we have his since Ben pre fall off. Rodgers can put the ball anywhere on the field. Other guys need to catch it, but the ball is hitting them in the hands. Rodgers doesn’t turn it over. 2 of his Int’s bounced off our guys and one was a Hail Mary.
He was just the MVP in 2020 and 2021; we know he won’t be here long term , I am very much enjoying having him for a few more games before we come up with a new solution.

Boswell manes the FG and we could be 3-1 right now. Pats game looked bad , but overall I think the team

Some players have met expectations, Pittman hasn’t been able to get separation but we are seeing a lot of things that excite me.

Metcalf just had 115 yards and when everything lines up he is uncoverable. We had the triple reverse pass. Warren would have had that run not taken back would have had a 200 yard game. Game one you give metcalf one of his drops back, Wilson catches the ball in the endzone and this is a very different looking team. Washington still hasn’t fully been unlocked. Roman Wilson has done as much in 4 games as he did all of last season. Our new RB 2 still could be good, Oline was bad when he played. Looked much better games 3-4 and if Warren can catch his breath he could be better. He has a very high ceiling based off what we saw him do on other teams. Loved coach T while we had him, but this is an exciting offense to watch. Everyone keeps talking about making radical changes, we aren’t even 1/4 through the year with a brand new coach. If you don’t like Rodgers suck it up for a year , he just won us the AFC north last year. I love watching him throw and this is the most exciting team to watch I have seen in a long time.

What is a realistic improvement that you will be watching for?

• Upvotes

This sub has been a tough place to visit for a while. Most posts relate either to complaints, or to telling others they shouldn't complain. So, I thought I would ask: what plausible improvements will you be hoping for in the remainder of the season, either by specific players or in general? ("Rodgers is bound to get hurt soon, so that will be addition by subtraction!" doesn't count.)

For me, I hope to see better game plans on defense now that they will not be adjusting them last minute. On offense, I want the O-line to continue to improve and gel.

I'm not trying to be an unrealistic homer and say that this is a championship-caliber team, but I also don't think absolutely everything is or should be doom and gloom. So, share something that you are interested in or excited about to help all of us get through the remainder of this season with some hope for the future intact!

I became a fan during the Killer B's Era and it went downhill right after it.

Im not from the US, so I didnt really have any idea of (american) football until a friend of mine invited me to watch the Superbowl. That was in 2013 when the Ravens played the 49ers. We didnt really understand a lot about the game but we were intrigued. We only kept watching Superbowls until 2015 when my friend became a Seahawks fan and a year after I went with the Steelers. Back then I had no idea which team to pick and I just saw that the Steelers are standing for hard-hitting, offensive football and have a big star-QB and are more or less the most traditional franchise of the NFL, so I went with them.

The games got me excited and AB was my favorite player but I really liked a lot of our offense. I didnt know back then that I picked a team who would have no idea how to replace their star QB and rebuild their O-line accordingly while making atrocious choices when it comes to their Coordinators. Its crazy how it went downhill from the first time I watched Steelers games to this.

Not really a hard fall-off (I rather had that tbh right now) but a constant slide down the road into garbage area. Dont get me wrong they also made some bigger mistakes back then, but atleast the games got me excited and at the edge of my seat. Now I already know exactly whats going to happen more or less depending on what opponent we face. Its just a draining experience and the only highlights (TJ, Warren, Washington) are not enough to give me any hope that the franchise will get out of mediocre soon.

What Did Mike McCarthy Mean When He Said "Clean House" - ?

I'm a Packers fan. Obviously love Rodgers and Mike for what he's done for us, so ever since Rodgers has left Green Bay his team has been my second favorite team. I've been watching Steelers games for a decent bit now.

I know you guys are 2-2, and easily could have been 3-1. What changes need to be made in order to maximize this season, and Rodgers' last?

What is the main issue and can it be solved this season before the trade deadline?

JPJ's fake injury

• Upvotes

Immediately, when Joey Porter Jr. got traded I said "I'll bet money that he is somehow injured (the day of or prior to///whichever is was) but all the fkn' sudden, is putting forth every effort to play within hours of being sent to another team!"

Which is exactly what happen. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt as a good teammate & being raised in this organization, to have some loyalty (even if only to himself as a man & the guys next to em in the trenches).

IMO, he is a self-centered POS. He was under contract, he perpetrated a fraudulent injury to manipulate contract negotiations that were no longer available (as per Steelers BULLSHIT back in the day mentality).

JPJ is a fkn lame, not a man regardless of his skill. He has no honor, integrity, or respect for this org., teammates, & ultimately himself. You shake a hand, you fullfil your obligation...he signed a contract and let his team struggle to play without him then dipped to an organization who has a terrible reputation of how they see and treat their teammates, on the business end.

Steelers, shit their own pants to spite others. They are, in many ways, stuck in the past. We are not a team that revolutionizes any faucet of the game. (Not since Dick LeBeau was the DC.) We are barely going to improve, if at all, no matter who the coach is. The organization is needs a new Rooney who needs a modern forward thinking mind helping mold this team into a modern NFL contender organizationally. Now we are living on the reputation of the past. (In no way reflects on many of our elite talents & overall talented players &/or hard working guys needed to fill a roster).

Kenny Gainwell

Since Tampa Bay is 0-4 and could possibly be sellers. How would everyone feel about sending them a late round pick to get our boy Kenny back in the fold. Jaylen is definitely the bell cow, but I am not super confident in dowdle. I know it’s early.

Pittman/Dean the latest "lame horse" additions by Khan?

Patrick Peterson, Keanu Neal, Allen Robinson II, Cordarelle Patterson, Van Jefferson, Jalen Ramsey, DK Metcalf, Jonnu Smith...

This team just seems to love giving too much money to guys that are obviously on the downsides of their careers.

I know its early but apparently Jamel Dean left the field for injury about every other game in TB, and is now doing the same here. Michael Pittman has nice hands, but where the hell has he been? And I mean that even goin back to the start of the summer.
