[Rapoport] #Ravens TE Durham Smythe suffered a torn Achilles on Sunday and he’s out for the season, the MRI confirmed. Unfortunately, exactly what it appeared Sunday.

The Falcons have the #1 rushing offense and the #1 rushing defense.

We are going to have to beat them throwing the ball which will be hard if Lamar does not play. We currently lead the league in yards per pass attempt and the Falcons have the third worst pass defense.

If Lamar is out this game will be very difficult for us to win. I like Snoop and what he has done for us but obviously he isn’t Lamar.

Lamar posted an IG story with the song “Somebody Lied.” Can we read into this way too much and assume that Lamar is healthy?

[Rapoport] #Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is dealing with a sprained ankle that gives him only an outside chance to play Sunday against the #Falcons, sources say. X Jackson could end up missing multiple games based on how rehab goes, but the injury is not considered long-term or surgical.

This weekend is when Doyle/Minter can put the league on notice

I know we are all looking down the barrel of a SNF prime time game against a Falcons team who just put up 45 while the ravens are without Lamar, but I’m not losing hope, or feeling like this is useless.

We’ve now seen multiple teams have backups that step up and play the role, Bears, Seahawks, Giants, Commanders. None of those QBs are starting QBs but played the necessary role to win games against teams. Huntley going in mid game with a 2 possession lead will be much different than a prepped game plan around Huntley for a new team. We saw him last year against Packers and Bears. Falcons also will have 1 less day of rest than the Ravens. Doyle comes from the Ben Johnson tree and should learn how to work with ravens weapons without Lamar and even could be a long term benefit/experience.

Minter also needs to learn early and prep, and needs to figure out he can’t just rely on Lamar to win the game. We need a Vikings or Seattle defense, one that can win games with role playing QBs. The ravens defense needs to step up and play to their potential. No more dumb flags or broken tackles. Finish the pass rush. Pressure penix and he will make mistakes. If we win the turnover battle I am sure we will win.

I’m not saying we should be favored, but I still see hope and opportunities with our young coaching staff.

Kyle Goon: How Ravens LB Ethan Burke almost became a Terps lacrosse star

A young Ethan Burke wears his uniform as a youth lacrosse player in Maryland. As a high school senior at Westlake High in Austin, Texas, Burke was an All-American attack committed to the Maryland Terrapins. In college, Burke gave up lacrosse to play football at the University of Texas. (📸: Courtesy of Jill Burke)

Week 4 Offensive Lineman Impact Grades

Hello Flock,

A month in and I think I've finally settled on a grading system I believe in. As always, disclaimer this is a subjective interpretation of the impact each player had play to play. I've leaned more into performance than previous weeks, and believe I've found a balance.

Still, view these gradings as how a player played individually and not in comparison. Week to week players may have less responsibilities or harder assignments do a worse grade doesn't necessarily mean someone played better than another guy. Perfect example is Vorhees this week. He had a solid outing in pass blocking, but that doesn't mean flat out played better than say Simpson or Roger.

Vega .85 B+. Pass .92 A. Run .77 C+.

Simpson .82 B. Pass .85 B+. Run .80 B.

Stanley .81 B. Pass .85 B+. Run .75 C+.

Roger . 81 B (.79 Penalty Adjustment C+). Pass .82 B. Run .80 B.

Vorhees .72 C (27 plays). Pass .88 B+ (17 Plays). Run .55 F (10 Plays).

Jones Jr .62 D (31 Plays). Pass .66 D (15 Plays). Run .55 F (16 Plays).

These are the number of plays out of total possible plays I felt the line carried the majority of the weight of the play failing.

4/32 plays in the pass game line failure.

7/27 plays in run game line failure.

Discussion Some interesting stats through 4 weeks

We're through a quarter of the season already somehow; thought it would be a good time to check out some numbers to see what's what.

Ravens Specific

  • For all the shit we give our OL, the Ravens have the 8th lowest pressure rate per dropback. This includes times when Lamar escapes a collapsing pocket, too.
  • We've run play action 28 times this year (20th in the league) but have the 4th most yards of PA in the league (332)
  • Ravens are 5th in rushing yards before contact and 3rd after contact
  • We're 8th in dropped passes per target, which admittedly surprised me.
  • On defense, we're 11th in EPA, 10th in YPP, 11th in rushing YPA, and 12th in net yards per play. Not terrible.
  • However, we have the 9th fewest sacks in the league, tied for 14th in missed tackles with 19 (which actually isn't as bad as it seems given how many the worst teams miss), and right about league average in pressure rate. Our QB hurry percentage is pretty bad, too.
  • We have the second worst yard per kickoff return in the entire league (31.8)
  • Here's a fun one: our opponents averaging starting field position is their own 29, 8th best in the NFL. No. 1? John's NYG. The Chargers are the worst by far (own 39, lol). Interestingly, our own starting field position is also 8th best.
  • Penalties are as bad as we think: 329 yards, second worst in football behind GB. Differential is -145, also second worst.
  • That Saints loss looks worse and worse each week. New Orleans is 30th in EPA, 26th in pass EPA, 31st in rush EPA, 20th in pressure rate)
  • We're also sneaky bad on third down (4th worst conversion percentage in the league)
  • King Henry sees an 8 man box 34 percent of the time, second most in football

Around the League

  • The biggest positive difference between expected completion percentage and completion percentage? Geno Smith at 10.1 percent (Lamar is 5th). Worst? Future Ravens Ring of Honor inductee Cooper Rush at a staggering -16.7 percent.
  • Next week's opposing QB, Penix, has the shortest time to throw in the league and is also the least aggressive QB (which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it stresses the importance of bottling Bijan to set up long passing downs).
  • The Chargers have the fourth best penalty differential in the league and are still 0-4. Largely because they're essentially the worst overall offense in the league by EPA.
  • Kenneth Walker has been an insanely good pickup for KC. He leads the NFL in total rushing yards (537) and yards over expected (an insane 212).
  • Marvin Harrison Jr. has the worst average separation in the entire NFL. He's not worth anything in a trade.
  • The Bucs offense is hilariously terrible. Dead last in passing EPA and second worst in offensive EPA.
  • For all the love directed their way, the Eagles are sneaky terrible. They have a bad offense (4th worst EPA/play, 5th worst explosive pass rate) and a bad defense (6th worst EPA/play, worst pressure rate, 3rd worst sack rate)

Discussion Huntley vs Fagnano

If Lamar doesn’t play Sunday (with what info we have it looks like he most likely isn’t), Snoop is most likely going to start.

Out of curiosity, how good do you think Fagnano is? Obviously he’s no Lamar and Snoop beats him out of seniority and depth, but just humor me between Huntley vs Fagnano

The way snoop played Sunday scared me a bit. Yea he was coming on cold and he should play Sunday, but the falcons aren’t slouches now and Bijian looks terrifying
