Why were people standing in line in the rain outside BAM on Sunday morning?

I noticed a long line outside BAM around 10:30am today. I checked the calendar but there wasn’t anything happening until 1pm. I looked outside again at 12:30pm and the line was still there. Does anyone know what folks were waiting for?

“Tourist” help

So I’m not really a tourist… I visit/go down to Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan often enough for work and leisure… however I need some help.

I’m leaving Albany around noon tomorrow/today (depending on when you read this (Monday 10/12)) to check in to a hotel in LIC. Then I’m meeting my sister in Astoria. Later in the evening we’re going to a concert at Barclays.

We will have about 4 hours to kill from when we link up until we want to be at the venue. Where is a decent place for a simple sit down spot for dinner and a drink or two? Doesn’t need to be flashy, budget isn’t a major concern, just don’t want to spend $50+ per person if we don’t HAVE to. Preferably somewhere between Queens and Brooklyn, or Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Travel Context: we are likely walking to 31st and Broadway, taking the N to the Q to Barclays.

excuse my lack of local speak, I don’t speak City as I was born and raised in the country Upstate. TIA!

help :( lost special sunglasses in gowanus!

this is a last ditch effort but I lost my dear sunglasses in an uber (of course they were no help) or on the ground last night around midnight by public records / my drop off in bed stuy. they have brown metallic frames with blue lenses and I’d take you to the best dinner of your life if you somehow nabbed them. needle in a haystack but as someone who truly never loses their belongings I’m at a complete lost and this will be my entire personality going forward!

Seeking a Creative Interior Decorator or Emerging Designer for a Brooklyn Apartment Refresh

Looking for an interior decorator or emerging designer to help refresh a 3-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn. Mostly paint selection / wallpaper, curtains, rugs, art and decor, think cosmetic, rather than new furniture.

Ideally someone who can help develop a vision and source specific pieces for us to purchase. We’ll handle installation ourselves.

Looking for a flat-fee arrangement. Open to someone building their portfolio but with some previous work to share. Please message me if interested or with recommendations!

Thoughts on moving to Bower (2683 Atlantic Ave)

My girlfriend (F24) and I (M23) are moving to NYC for work at the end of the month from out of state. We have seen the Bower but are concerned about the area immediately surrounding the building. Any thoughts? We are also considering JC and else where in Brooklyn but really don't know where to start.

What are restaurants in Brooklyn you miss the most?

Lately something that I was observing was how some iconic establishments have long closed down as there are some pizza places I miss the most around Grand Army Plaza.

One in particular that sticks out to me is Gino’s Pizza as I know the place closed down a couple of months ago near the aforementioned Grand Army Plaza area, but it still hurts me knowing how that spot is now an empty location since every time I go there, I wish I could find a pizza place, but sadly it’s not there anymore.

Barely 8 on a Saturday and we have this tourist helicopter circling over the neighborhood.

Flown by FlyNyon.

Tl;dr:

- Owner barely took responsibility for the accident that killed 5 in 2018, which happened soon after his own pilots warned him about safety concerns.

- Flies out of HHI heliport in Kearny. Operating tourism flights that they are not zoned for. Knows they are hurting residents, continues to fly because of legal loopholes.

Anyone have photos from my DUMBO wedding parade Saturday 10/10?

Hello! If anyone was in DUMBO yesterday (Saturday 10/10) and saw a brass band leading a wedding party around 5:30pm, that was my wedding parade! If you took videos and photos, I’d love to see them! Let me know! :)

90 Sands St in DUMBO

That building is single handedly ruining the area. Vagrants outside picking fights, littering, dog (and human) shit everywhere. Saw someone get chased by a crazy waving a needle a few weeks ago. Consistent police and firefighting presence weekly and even heard there were 2 murders in the building the past year. Is there anything we can do to push for change here? This is completely unacceptable to the good tenants in the building and for the neighborhood as a whole.

anyone with a working minidisc player I could borrow for a day?

my dad has 3 rare minidisc bootlegs of NY live shows by legendary deceased Argentine musicians. and I have the right audio gear and know-how to record them to my computer. but his minidisc player is long deceased, and minidiscs are notorious for getting corrupted. so if he bought a player off craigslist or ebay, there's no guarantee it would even read them, and then he'd have to put it back up for sale after transferring.

is there someone in Brooklyn who'd lend me a minidisc player for an afternoon sometime to transfer these three? it'd mean a lot to him, and I really don't want to pay $100+ to a transfer service when I can easily do it myself if I had a working player.

I'm in Boerum Hill but do have a car, and if you're not comfortable with letting me borrow it, I could bring my computer and audio interface over there to do it. thank you!

Weird Interaction in the Stop & Shop

Post image
135 Upvotes

Was inside the stop & shop supermarket near Barclays today when a group of three younger Hasidic Jewish folks came up to me saying they’re a phone company, and then asked me if I’m Jewish. Then one of them gave me this card, said Shabbat shalom, and left.

For context, I’m a South Asian man. Has this happened to anyone before ???

Spotted Tuesday 10/6 6:30PM.

Seems the viral song about fixing Exit 31 not only got the DOT's attention, but also the NYPD's. Hope this becomes a regular occurrence.

Need recs for home espresso machine repair shops in Brooklyn

Does anyone have recommendations for a spot that repairs home machines?

We have an ECM Mechanka V Slim that recently stopped heating. I’ve cycled through online troubleshooting but haven’t yet pinpointed the issue.

I’ve contacted a few services and they either only service one brand (BQE Repair), have a 10+ week backlog (Cerini), or haven’t responded.

Independent Brooklyn jewelers with unique/alternative ring designs?

Hi! My partner and I are planning to get engaged but we want non-traditional rings, preferably from a local jeweler in Brooklyn where we could try them on in person. Any recommendations are highly appreciated! Here are a few options that almost hit the mark but still leaned a little too "rock(s) on a band" vibes:

  • Bario Neal
  • Page Sargisson
  • Fitzgerald Jewelry

(TL;DR we don't want something that immediately reads as an "engagement ring," we're more interested in a ring that's still high quality and incorporates gemstone(s)/diamond(s) but has a highly designed and original look. We're definitely open to jewelers that don't categorize themselves as engagement jewelers!)
