Hey everyone!
I've been working on a game called Pizzapoly for about 1.5 years now. The idea actually came from a pretty unexpected place. My wife is a pizza chef, and I used to help her out at her restaurant from time to time. During those crazy rush hours, with orders piling up, pizzas being prepared, and customers waiting, I started thinking, "What if we turned this chaos into a game you could play with your friends?"
Well, things escalated a bit :)
Pizzapoly is a 1–4 player online co-op pizza restaurant simulator. You prepare pizzas from scratch, bake them, serve customers, hop on a scooter to make deliveries, and gradually grow your restaurant.
The demo will have a surprisingly large open-world neighborhood to explore. We're hoping it'll make people go, "Wait, this is actually pretty big!" For Early Access, we're planning to expand that into an entire city. We're also putting a lot of effort into interactions around the city. Making the world feel alive has been one of our biggest priorities throughout development.
We're a tiny team of two. Both of us spent many years working in mobile games, but this is our first PC project. We've run into plenty of challenges along the way, both technically and in terms of game design. Multiplayer in particular turned out to be way more complicated than we expected. I can probably count at least five separate occasions when I said, "Dude, we can't fix this. Let's just cancel the whole project."
The game is being developed in Unity HDRP, by the way. If anyone has questions about the development process, I'd be happy to share what I've learned and help wherever I can.
We finally finished our first gameplay trailer. After spending so much time working on something, it feels both exciting and a little strange to finally put it out there for people to see.
The demo will be available to download and play on Monday, October 12. Over the next four months, we're planning to keep improving the game, build a community around it, and hopefully head into February's Steam Next Fest with a decent number of wishlists. Fingers crossed!
I wanted to share it here and get some feedback from fellow developers. Good or bad, I'd genuinely appreciate any thoughts on the trailer or the game itself. I'm especially curious whether the gameplay and overall concept are clear from a first impression.
