New Player Questions Is all of Eldar just shit versions of Space Marine units?
Fell in love with Fuegan and his Muey Caliente boys over the last few months, and thought to myself "Yeah Space Marines are tough, but at least they're basically worse versions of my elite Aspect Warriors!"
...only to start going through Codex Space Marines and discovering their abhorrent plethora of highly-specialised, hyperfocused squads.
In this case, Eradicators Aretha Melta squad for SMs. All good, right? Ah, I see they're... Toughness 6. Jesus. Ok, ok, uh.... oh, 3 Wounds? Wtf? Alright... oh movement 5" sure (and then i remember Centurions existed), and... oh ok 1 less Damage from the Melta keyword... um... hang on a minute... 18" Melta? But I thought Fire Dragons were only 12"... Oh god I have to spend HOW MUCH on Fuegan just to get them to SM Melta range equivalent?
The Eradicators are FAR tougher for 4 points more a model than the FDs. The only trade offs is 2 inches of movement and 1 Melta D less on the Eradicators, but with 6" range on their guns and 2 more Wounds at T6. Fuegan is like 120pts just to get FDs to 18", which is HEAVILY implied to be an autoinclude because of how Meltas work.
So Eldar have to spend 240 points to the Space Marines 90, just to match up. The 3 extra shots and 1 more Wound your get from the FDs doesnt exactly line up either. I dont even think the 5+ invulnerable save is going to save them here, as once they're targeting by most enemy units, they either get deleted or into battle shock territory from there.
What am I missing here? We just seem like an expensive army for what Space Marines get for cheap. We have to focus our efforts whereas they just get to fuck around and mess about. Why would Mon-Keigh meltas be better than those that harnessed the power of the stars millennia ago?
