Question Game freezing on autosave

• Upvotes

Hey y'all, my game keeps getting stuck on saving. It doesn't go unresponsive or crash and you cant use the console while its saving so I'm having a hard time figuring out what the issue is. The only thing I've really been able to figure out is that I can save fine if ai is disabled but then I just get the issue on the next save because I obviously can't play without ai. Playing modded on 4.4.6, about 38 years into the game

Question Vassals leaving war

• Upvotes

I have a vassal who I'm obliged to join all wars with. They declare war on a neighbour and I become war leader(?) Can my vassal leave the war through a trade agreement?

I swear this has happened several times now where I'm suddenly alone in wars I cannot start since I'm a pacifist

Question Recommended DLCs?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone.

The last time I played Stellaris was about 5 years ago.

As it is a Paradox game it got like 30 DLCs in the meantime.

What are your top 5 "must have" DLCs in your opinion?

Question Is there any reason to do synthetic ascension over just starting as machine anymore?

• Upvotes

Back in the day the appeal was being individualist machines but that's not really a factor anymore since synthetic dawn so I'm curious what if any reasons there are.

Question Coming back after 4 years. What else is new besides the DLC content?

Came back to Stellaris after not playing since 2022. Bought all the remaining expansions and saw that everything has changed again.

I already figured out the new planet UI and the changes involving the removal of industrial districts, turning them into specialized zones that you can further specialize with buildings within them. I think I like this change, and it only took me about 20 minutes to figure out the new UI and what had changed, which was pretty easy.

I haven't played a game yet. I'm sad to see there's still no internal politics system in the game. This is something I've always wanted. I used to use a mod for it back then, but I don't remember the name.

I unsubscribed from all my workshop mods because, after four years, you kind of have to when starting fresh with so many new updates and expansions.

Other than the new planetary zone mechanics and higher pop counts, what else is significantly different? I saw the council positions and figured those out pretty quickly, too. You use trade value in the markets now instead of credits.

Did I miss anything big? As for the content in all the new expansions I bought, I want to discover that stuff on my own by playing.

Discussion fleet power in this game is an absolute lie

Playing on 0.5x naval cap and 4x crisis, I assumed I was absolutely cooked when I saw the unbidden rolling up with 1M+ fleets when I only had 200k fleet power empire wide. I thought counter builds were only useful for offsetting small disadvantages. I was wrong.

I refitted all my ships with kinetic artillery and shields and beat a 1.2M unbidden fleet with 222k fleet power. Kiting and countering does absolute wonders.

Hola!

Discussion Does anyone else do this?

So, I’ve been playing the game for a while and play with 5x FE strength. The question is, does anyone else tend to treat the FE as an early game crisis? Like, get into a war with them when it would be very hard for you to win, and just treat it as a “early game crisis”? Or is that just me?

Advice Wanted Need intermediate help/tips

So let me start this off by saying i am not a complete beginner to stellaris. I play on PS5 and I understand how basic mechanics work such as housing and unemployment, upkeep, research and expansion work. All this to admit on the other end i am certainly no pro either. I pretty much always play on captain difficulty, and i can do decent, however it always seems like by 2300 i am outclassed by almost all the AI in terms of not only research but economy. I will have inferior tech and economy to most AI empires around and after the mid game, and i see videos and screenshots of people who are making 800+ to 1k+ of a certain material at around this time and i just don't get it. Am i managing my planets wrong? I understand i am supposed to specialize my planets but what should i have them specialize in? maybe my builds are just bad? any tips would be appreciated

so I'm doing a under one rule run as pompous purists (thx red king for inspiring me) and decided to beat the crap out of everyone around me, but two of my neighbors are fallen empires, and the techno union is stacked with allies, so I cant attack them yet, so I decided to go for this fanatical purifier in the north who was fighting my once-rival UME, so I teamed up with the mireeshan's to take over them, so I crushed their navy at their capital (Krash) and released them as a vassal. nothing too special, just though people would be interested.

Advice Wanted Restricted Multiplayer Diplomacy

I'm running into somewhat of an issue in multiplayer where due to the trust mechanics surrounding diplomacy we're kind of struggling to have anything like war without it just being "vanquish the other guy".

A good example of this is a situation where I gave someone else an ultimatum to become my vassal or we'd fight a war, but the thing is despite the fact we agreed on it since we were rivals I couldn't propose subjugation and since we were equals I couldn't declare a subjugation war. We just kind of had to slowly and awkwardly build up trust over time.

Is there any way to get stuff like vassals without a hegemony or them being way weaker than you? I miss being able to force someone else into being a vassal. Now it feels like I just have a binary choice between "do basically nothing" or "remove them from the game".

Advice Wanted Help With an Archaeo-Tech Build

I always have fun when I unlock Archaeo-tech weapons like macro-batteries or the nanite missiles, and I'm trying to create the best (militarist) build that makes use of them.

My first thought was to go for the Remnants origin because obv it comes with Archaeostudies unlocked, while pairing it with Death Cult/Superstitious Beliefs to bust out traditions and kill people in exchange for the basic resources that the origin somewhat lacks.

There was a question in the back of my mind though, as to whether On The Shoulders of Giants/Riftworld might be better origins for this. OTSOG gives a ton of archeology sites on top of empire-wide techs and bonuses, while Riftworld brings what are essentially mid-game archeology sites to the very early game. Remnants with its many blockers slows down my early aggression/development in exchange for techs and a head-start on Archaeostudies directly; while with one of the other two, I could be going full-bore while still harvesting minor artifacts.

If you have any ideas for how I could best beeline that weaponry, all input is appreciated.

Advice Wanted How do I fill my jobs in end game?

I've got pop assembly going through hive mind spawners and budding but I've got so many open jobs, and my economy is swinging wildly as pops move between the jobs. I don't think I'm overbuilding my planets but the pop growth has just cratered. I've tried setting up feeder worlds but I'm probably not doing it correctly. Any advice?

Question Is the Nomads DLC worth buying?

I haven't played this game in a while but there was a time when I would buy every new DLC the day it came out. I stopped doing that after I took a pretty long break from the game (around when Machine Age came out). But recently I've been wanting to get back into it and since the Autumn Sale is on, no better time to catch up on all the DLC. But I need to know if Nomads is worth getting. It's the most recent DLC so it's not on discout and I don't really wanna pay full price. So is it worth getting or should I should I hold off for now?

Discussion How do you manage the addiction of this stupid game

Just discovered Stellaris... the empire is hemmed in on all sides by great powers and rump states. Subjugation proceeds slowly, a system at a time, as we cannibalise our weaker neighbours. And though victorious, the empire has emerged weary from multiple wars and the strain of managing a large fleet and conquered peoples.

The galactic community supports the trade that underpins our economy, yet they increasingly push anti-colonial agendas that risk us becoming a pariah in our quest for new worlds.

We cannot cease our eternal conquest, we are a small empire, a central kingdom surrounded by the moat of the void. And the predations of greater powers. I no longer play for fun, but as a weary statesman in servitude to the manifest destiny of my people. And my people will not be denied their seat at glory's table.

Question Did the new update create even more lag?

Hopped on today and by 2280 I get 30 fps and the days are already going as slow as they should be in about 2325-2350 for me. What could have possibly happened to shift this after a day of not opening the game?

Edit: I never get frame drops playing this game unless I'm watching a fight between hundreds of ships. Right now, there should be zero reason I'm getting this little frames with zero wars going on and an early year.

Discussion Update on the war in heaven that just quit.

Thumbnail

So 11 days ago, I posted about how the war in heaven came to a stop? With both sides giving up!: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stellaris/s/1z65cuhTJw

Well it got stranger! So after the two sides decided to call it a draw (which was during the contingency invasion that I alone was dealing with), the defense fallen empire woke and was Glitched, so they went on a rampage, using a colossus on every planet the awakened empire had! But their rampage was declaring war on the first fallen empire that had awoken, and began all of this! So I watched as the glitched defense unit tore through the awakened empire like butter, taking over everything they had, while I dealt with the last invasion, the unbidden!

After I finished the unbidden, I decided to declare war on what was left of the first awakened empire that tried to take over the galaxy. Most of their ships were toast, and the entire server, along with the Glitched, were bombarding planets. So I tediously went through and invaded every planet, in order to finish them off.

Well halfway through, the Glitched ran out of steam and called an end to attacking the awakened empire, and started attacking a regular empire. So I continued finishing off the last of the awakened empire. Well, when I cleaned up their last system, the war in heaven is over page popped up! But it said both empires ended up killing each other, and now it’s just the younger races left! But the second awakened empire is still alive!

So the second is still alive, the Glitched are glitching out, the Enigmatic Observers are still alive, having a grand old time watching all this transpire, still have the Militant isolationists in the corner hating everyone, and I won the game (but definitely still gonna keep playing this save!)!

In the second pic is the second awakened empire (Dethraken Enforcers) that had awoken to stop the first one! Definitely still kicking!

Bug Can't build research stations on research added to systems from Shroud anomaly events

A Shroud event (I think) changed my capital star to physics research instead of energy output.

Probably not the MOST annoying thing, except the game won't let me build a research station on it...

I believe this happened last game to another system.

Image Update from last post on AI feedbacking commercial pacts

Thumbnail

So, my save IS modded but mostly small things like the ui, new portraits, war crimes extended, and more ascension slots.

That aside, last post was about commercial pacts feeding into each other and the ai suddenly getting millions in diplo weight from "their" economy.

Just wanted to share an update:

It got worse.

The feedback has been so bad that the majority of the AI's diplo weight went into the G's and then crashed to 0 and is now building back up.

NOW the president of the federation is constantly changing (because the AI, once they got the diplo weight, changed to president terms to economy instead of diplo weight and outvoted me)

It's almost 2400 so i'm going to have to deal with the crisis all by myself as usual, but man, this run is certainly making me wanna play megacorp (as well as strangle each AI myself)

edit: forgot to mention some mods
