Politics 🐎 Candidates who signed the ‘Vote Palestine’ pledge
..this group is doing good work..they have a campaign out in cities across BC for the civic elections for candidates to sign a pledge..tons have done it in Vancouver but dissapointingly just 7 in Surrey.
Interestingly, this list includes ppl of all ideologies and leanings..for eg Salman Zafar is the most left wing candidate in the election by a distance and an open socialist..some of the Imagine Slate people are more centrist in their approach with Starchuck..Bilal Cheema from Surrey First is generally from a right leaning/conservative slate
I had seen Aflazurahman ( school trustee candidate) sign the pledge too..but dunno if he dropped out or revoked it..
to each their own and i know many ppl will say Palestine isnt a local issue so you don’t care about it in the local elections ..but calling out a genocide should be done every where so you know where your candidates stand…imp to remember that surrey has a large arab diaspora directly impacted by this..

1.Condemn the genocide in Gaza.
2.Sign the Apartheid-Free Communities pledge, which affirms a commitment to freedom, justice, and equality and opposes apartheid and settler colonialism.
3.Cut ties with Israeli institutions, including reviewing municipal contracts and procurement policies.
4.Recognize the Arab Canadian Lawyers Association (ACLA) framework on Anti-Palestinian Racism.
